When Marina Mahathir first spoke of the kidnapping, about four young girls had already fallen victim. But the Police only highlighted this case after the Nurin Jazimin case late last year. By Little Bird
Last week, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi admitted that many things were not right in the country. He admitted that rising crime was a real problem. The Bloggers, particularly Marina Mahathir, had given warnings early last year about the Kampong Baru serial molester who was going around kidnapping and molesting little girls. When Marina first spoke of the kidnapping, about four young girls had already fallen victim. But the police only highlighted this case after the Nurin Jazimin case late last year. The police have not given the real tally of the number of victims who have fallen prey to the molester, despite calling this freak the Kampong Baru molester (instead of Taman Medan molester). The fact that the police cannot find this kidnapper despite deploying so much manpower is evidence of serious weaknesses in the police force. Again, Abdullah Badawi announced without thinking that the police force would be increased by 60,000 personnel. That is a whopping increase. Although no time frame was mentioned, it sounded like it was immediate. Where and how are the police going to find 60,000 new policemen and then house them, pay their salaries, and so on. If it costs the police a measly RM20,000 per year to maintain each policeman, the cops will need an extra RM1.2 billion a year just to pay salaries. The answer came in a notice that was posted in the Malay newspapers last week. All retired policemen were asked to attend a taklimat at various places. In Kuala Lumpur, thousands of retired policemen, some as old as 65 years, were then 'ordered' to report back to work. This is really quite insane. Although the Police Act may give the police powers to call up retirees, the human rights groups should take up this matter urgently. How can anyone force retired civil servants back to work, especially when they are over 60 years old? As early as Sunday, 3rd February, some of these pensioners were already back in uniform. It is also questionable how these senior citizens will perform back in uniform, toting M16 rifles, pistols and other weapons at such a late age. Obviously, this is Abdullah Badawi's idea of fighting crime. A better way to fight crime will be to cancel the issuing of hundreds of thousands of lucrative APs to Badawi's cronies for the import of foreign workers which is driving up the crime rate. Foreign workers are getting involved in many crimes. Also, foreign workers are displacing the local workers who then turn to crime to make a living. Cut off the supply of foreign workers and the crime rate will drop drastically. Tell the cronies to find other honest ways to make a living. Badawi's AP cronies have also set up an association with an acronym designed to insult foreign workers, especially Indonesians. The Association of Foreign Maid Agencies or Persatuan Agensi Pekerja Asing has the sick acronym of 'Papa'. In Bahasa Malaysia, papa means 'dirt poor'. Papa does not mean father, because in the Malay dictionary the word for father is ayah and bapa. This sick acronym is intentionally designed to insult the Indonesians again. The other stopgap measure to win the votes of the Malays is the RM2,000 (maximum) bonus payment for Civil Servants that is expected soon after the Chinese New Year. This will place a few Ringgits of 'duit shopping' in the hands of the Civil Servants and help swing their votes to the BN. Once the general elections are over, fuel prices are going up, tolls are going up, electricity tariffs are going up, the crime rate will shoot up again and the country will be back to its downhill journey again.
