Drug pushers laughing their way to the bank

The A(H1N1) scare has caused many to rush to the doctors for antiviral drugs even in Malaysia.
The ones WHO recommended for the swine flu virus are identical with those believed effective for the avian flu virus: Tamiflu made by Roche and Relanza produced by GlaxoSmithKline, according to a report by China Daily

According to stock market analysis, both companies saw their share prices rise by about 8% in late April, just after the outbreak. These drugs are not cheap (I can’t seem to find the prices – I think about RM7 each or something).

Some time ago, a group of Malaysian researchers did a survey and found that the prices of some of the medicine / drugs sold in Malaysia were about 300% more than the global market.

Oh btw, US FDA recommends that Tamiflu and Relenza should carry warnings about possible side-effects because there had been reports of patients experiencing delirium, psychosis and hallucinations. Tamiflu (oseltamivir) is a pill, while Relenza (zanamivir) is inhaled – not recommended for patients of all ages.

Reports from Japan indicate that children, particularly, may have a higher risk of experiencing these psychiatric side effects after receiving the flu drugs. Tamiflu and Relenza are the most common medications used for the treatment of flu.

So why is WHO backing the pharmaceutical giants, and why are drug prices in Malaysia so high?

My mother choose to die on a Friday...

During her 1 month or so stay in a private hospital during her final stage of colon cancer the bill was closed to RM 30,000 in year 2001. I am still paying the credit card!

There is najis/shit everywhere... be careful. Die on a Saturday morning and get buried in the afternoon?

Doctors and hospital administrators are also all very well educated in English and they accept credit card payments.

Wiser to die in a Government hospital - doesn't matter what day. There, less English is spoken.

Part of the great inequalities the world over!
Millions still suffer hunger pangs daily and many die of starvation while in the affluent countries thousands of gallons of milk sre poured down the drain , grains stockpiles get spoilt in ware houses, all in the name of price control.
So, those two drug companies are making obscene profits but since WHO is behind them, what can the rest of the world do?
Those countries with the means to do so should do an AIDS rebellion as well, give them the middle finger and go on to produce and distribute cheap generic drugs to their citizens!

Drug pusher? I thought this bastard retire since the opium war? Or their economy is now near the verge of collapse with return of HK and has to surface again? Drug is science, of course must speak English.

The fatality rate of this disease has now reduced to almost the level of seasonal flu.
I wonder if WHO is going to extend the pandemic alarm until drug companies make enough money from their yet to be launched A vaccine.
