Surely MCA leaders and members know why the one thousand over folks said what they said. That could only mean MCA must act to "rectify the problems" which prompted people to answer yes.

By MOHSIN ABDULLAH/MySinchew

IF YOU'RE a regular viewer of ntv7 news presentation (be it in Mandarin, English or Bahasa Melayu) you will notice that in each bulletin every day we ask viewers to take part in opinion poll via SMS. A question based on a report more often than not, carried in the bulletin will be asked and viewers can answer via text message. It's a simple yes or no answer. For example "should MCA hold unity talks with the DAP"? Or "should the Perak state assembly be dissolved"?

Why do we do this? Well for starters to make some money. Not much but I'll be lying if I say financial gains is not a reason. The more viewers respond the better. So to make sure good viewer participation the question must be "catchy" something which can grab the viewers' attention and one which people can relate to. Sometimes we run the poll for fun. Like asking who will win a big football match which will be telecast live later in the evening. Matches featuring Manchester United, Liverpool Arsenal, Barcelona usually bring in the SMSess.

On a serious note we ask serious questions to give the public an avenue to air their views and for the authorities to listen to the voice of the rakyat.

That's us. But what about the MCA? Why did the party ask the rakyat should the party leave the BN? The question as we know, was posted in the MCA president's blog. Over a thousand respondents said YES. The MCA should part ways with BN, they said. As expected that question attracted attention and various interpretations. Some in UMNO see it as a "threatening gesture" towards the BN. But BN Chairman, viewed the poser as "academic." The MCA leadership echoed Datuk Seri Najib Razak's statement. So "academic" it is.

Now what? Should the MCA listen to the wishes of the folks who said yes? No not really you might say as only over a thousand people wanted MCA out of BN. A thousand out of the millions of Malaysians is "negligible." It's not a referendum. True. But why ask in the first place if the voices of the respondents are not to be heard.

So it's back to "academic." Some say the MCA never intended to leave the BN fold. The poser was just to gauge the sentiment of the people. The Chinese in particular. Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, the MCA president himself admitted the question was relevant "at that time." He was refering to post March 8 general election.

With the result, came the reason. Surely MCA leaders and members know why the one thousand over folks said what they said. That could only mean MCA must act to "rectify the problems" which prompted people to answer yes.

Will MCA take the results of the "academic exercise," work it out and right the wrongs? They ought to and I feel they want to. But can they do it? Can they rid themselves of all the things the MCA were "associated" with in the past? All the "misdeeds," "lack of action" and what have you which made many a Chinese turn their backs on the party.

More than a year has gone by since the March 8 election. There are efforts of course. Has the much talked about rebranding worked? Have the party gained lost ground? And has the "academic exercise" been put to good use?

MCA is a shame... It is like asking your friends if they want to have dinner when they visit you and after they say yes, you ask them to go eat at the restaurant themselves!

MCA is a shame to the Chinese race. They still want to cling, as slaves, in a party which looks down upon them. They are talking about Malay unity without bothering to talk to its "partners." They have made a much publicised statement that they can rule this country without your help. And there is another important fact. MCA claims that they represent the Chinese. And they have less seats in Parliament than the DAP. Is that not clear that the Chinese do not want you? And your numbers will dwindle as you go along,

Their names spelt doom.
One is a long sick man for all the evil deeds and actions.
The other is now resting in the coffin. He is koon choy or coffin in Cantonese.
The current leader is Ah Teat. True to his name he still behaves like an infant ie still sucking the teats after all these years!

I am not sure why OTK wants to make a survey on the sentiment of the Chinese on MCA. The answer is already written o the wall. Or the MCA president still thinks that MCA is still popular with the Chinese.
If they were to hold a referendum, I can safely say 80% of the Chinese will not support MCA. There is no denial that MCA has let the Chinese down very badly especially during the OKT's era where MCA became a beggar to UMNO. Though we can understand the difficulties MCA faced, but there is not a single iota of doubt that MCA is taking care of their own skin rather than onl.
Hope the new echelon of leaders will change and stand up shoulder to shoulder with UMNO.
Always remember, you cannot have the cake and eat it. There is alawys a certain element of risk in all our undertakings.
OKT is trying to enjoy all the trappings without any risks and this strategy will never work.

A party supported mainly by UMnoputra, Greedy Taukay, and Retarded Chinese!! A Chinese Party that threaten the Chinese with May 15th whenever there's a General Election. A Party that surrender the rights of those people it claim to represent.

I have some friends in MCA, a party which I always refuse to join though they invited me many times. These friends and their comrades are always bragging about what positions they have achieved or going to achieve, for eg being elected/selected as chaiarman or some other position in some associations, lembaga, councils, guilds and what not. They will boast about who they rub shoulders with, and what business opportunities they have. They know which leader to bodek to get what they want. As one of the rewards for their support, overseas trips are organised, sponsored by some datuk or tan sri. China is their favourite destination. I have heard how they drink like hell, some mix drinks with ecstasy pills or "ice", or how they hug and fcuk china dolls. It's about debauchery, positions, power and money.

So these scumbags go around spinning stories to mislead the ignorant folks. They also use scare tactics, about Pas turning the country into Islamic state, or about Anwar being more evil than UMNO whose only struggle is to be PM, nothing else. Or about 513. Anything and everything scary or bad about the opposition.

I am sure many MCA members say no about leaving BN. These are good and loyal followers as they just listen to their leaders. I'm also sure there are many who want to leave, but they got no balls. Well, OTK doesn't want to put his career on the line, why should the followers? I would like to quote a chinese saying, loosely translated as "Only shed tears when they see the coffin". They will cry for sure, come next GE.

They should accept the result of the poll and leave. But they think it's a good hint to UMNO not to take MCA for granted. How wrong can they be?? UMNO will always be the bully, not matter what!

Tee Kiat actually hopes that those who took the survey would support MCA but his hope has been dashed. Most Chinese if not all wanted MCA to leave BN.I believe Tee Kiat himself would want MCA to leave BN if he is not the president of MCA and also not a cabinet minister. This also apply to people like Yen Yen,Tiong Lai,Mei Fen,Ka Siong and old folks such as Cho Ha and the current minister of housing and local government.

These people who are ministers would definitely glue to UMNO as their livelihood depend on it and they do not mind UMNO/BN is corrupted and incompetent as long as they have a good salary on a monthly basis apart from some windfall once in a while coming their ways.

joeyhuang,

Are you speaking on behalf of your MCA Bagan Division? I hope not, because if you are, you are hitting at your past president but not OTK. And if you are MCA member, how can you hide behind MT to criticise your party?

Public opinion is an important impact on any party. it is the public that voted in MCA. Say what you like and put in any other way the popularity of MCA is dwindling faster now. Today the people has awakened and they are very intelligent to analyse what conviction and commitment MCA has to the Chinese. There are no better label than UMNO running dogs. Each time when UMNO leaders utter racial slur on Chinese or blame Chinese for Malays disunity MCA choose to remain silent. It is the DAP/PR come forth to challenge. What has MCA done so far. If Chinese have serious problems is Michael Chong does for FREE. This is something people need to ask. No wonder MCA is label as Towkay Party. Look at all the leaders especially the past ones. Can the son of the President fortune worth Millions even though he works very hard as claimed by the father. All Chinese worked extremely hard and still live hand to mouth. What a joke. Tun Ling and Dato Chan need not be call for questioning on PKFZ scandal Why be exempted. 12.5 billion is a lot of the peoples money and in some way they are involved. Writing to the MOF for more money is involvement. There are so many issue on education, business , cultural , religion etc that has been curtail and sidelined and does MCA stand up against those big problems. So dont blame the Chinese for not supporting MCA.

MCA does not represent the Malaysian chinese.
The party is led by goonies to mislead the chinese voters.
They peddle fear about diminishing chinese rights and language without MCA.
They feed on the crumbs and left over from their UMNO masters.
When real and serious issues raise ,MCA members would shy away.
That is what MCA is all about.

OTK just want to test the ground but forget that it was hit by the face and have to lick the balls of his boss again to please him. This will be the last MCA and there is no point of saying again in the next 3 years. Most of the member are looking eleswhere as they know there is nothing left for the party to survive in the next election.Remember that the PR is not a 'tong sampah' so this mean the polite of the MCA is finished. If some are good and smart they should better leave early as the room is so small for the living.MCA will join Gerakan together sink to the bottom of the sea and will never surface again---RIP.

Did MCA carry out the survey just for the heck of it? Surely organisations carry out surveys to gauge opinions for the purpose of reform, improvement, etc. Perhaps MCA would like to explain why it carried out the survey and what it is going to do with the results. smilies/angry.gif

The way I see it, MCA is just like UMNO, and so is MIC.

Their leaders, just like those of UMNO's, are only concern about THEIR welfare.

I never see or accept that MCA represents me. They made that claim to serve themselves.

Just as the malays are fools to accept UMNO as their rep, the chinese, too, are fools to accept MCA as their rep.

Down with BN, consign MCA and UMNO to the scrapheap of oblivion.

Malaysians must wake up, ditch the racist parties like UMNO< MCA and MIC. We are already lagging and it is because we have been taken for a long, long ride of 50 years by UMNO. We must get off and take another bus, take another route so that we can reach our destiny on time. I suggest that we embrace change and we shall give it to Pakatan.
