The malaise of 1 Malaysia PDF Print

(The Malaysian Insider) This is what we feared, Mr Prime Minister. That, when confronted with the choice of Malaysian unity or Malay unity, you would plump for the latter but attempt to wrap it as a option which would be consistent with your 1Malaysia concept.

That, when confronted with the politically easier and attractive choice of working together with Parti Islam Semalaysia (PAS), you would reach for tired clichés of working for the betterment of Islam and Muslims in the country, and relegate non-Malays to an afterthought, a footnote.

Non-Malays must have felt like bit players today reading comments from Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the man who promised that he would usher in a new era of equality for all Malaysians.

He appealed to PAS to reconsider the proposal to form a unity government with Umno, saying that the Islamic party should not allow political considerations to get in the way of uniting the Malay/Muslim community.

But what about the rest of the country? What about the Chinese, Indians, Kadazandusuns, Dayaks, Sikhs, Eurasians and others? What role will they play in a Malay unity government? Who will look after the interests of non-Malays? Will crumbs be tossed their way?

Najib attempted to assure non-Malays that they have nothing to fear but his answer only served to raise red flags.

“Just because there is a unity government doesn’t mean non-Malays will be neglected.  They will still have a role,” he said today. How comforting?

Sorry, Mr Prime Minister, non-Malays do not want to be bit players. They do not want minor roles. Chinese, Indians and others do not want to be accorded second-class status.

They yearn to be treated as equals in the only home they have. Little possibility of that happening in a government dominated by Umno/PAS.

Mind you, this is not paranoia. If Umno and its institutions (read: Utusan Malaysia) are insufferable and arrogant with the power vested in them now, one can only shudder at the thought of now intolerant and blind to the rights of other Malaysians they will be with the heft of all Malay political power?

If UNITED NATION are form by 1 nation...

1Malaysia will be a TOTAL FAILURE if form by 1 race. same fact. Najib once again plan to fail.

UMNO has been and always will be a MALAY political party - BN (Perikatan -before 1969) was a racial coalition fostered upon it by the British as a precondition for Independence in 1957 as a sign that the multi-racial society that the British has created can live together. (this is all History as I had studied in the past unless the facts have been changed in last 25 years).

Hence, its primary aim has alwyas been Malay supermacy in politics and economics Trouble is we, the citizens of Malaysia yearned for a day when we can call ourselves proudly MALAYSIANS (irrespective of race) and don't have to fill in the stupid section called "Bangsa" in every damn Government forms and identification cards/documents !!

Unfortunately, the party in power can call themselves whatever, working together etc. peace in coalition harmony etc. their formation back in the 1940s and 50s stated that in their Memorandum of Article of formation or its equivalent in Register of Society (ROS).

it goes against their very existence - in fact, if they admit multi-racial members and follow multiracial policies in their parties, they can be disregistered as not following ROS rules!

Many already knew that. Malay unity is a call driven by desperation. With this unity, malay votes will pour in for BN/UMNO and PR will be torn asunder. He then can sleep better and work harder to outdo TDM's 22 years as PM. It's a life-saving act for himself, never about 1Malaysia. Definitely not for saving his face. BTW when has he ever been ashamed of any of his own actions?

This much I can assure you, Najis. If DSAI is jailed for Sodomy2, you will have more multiracial unity on PR side.

Biasa lah .... this is UMNO. Abdullah also said he was a PM for ALL Malaysians, but when crunch time comes, same old same old. Najib is not even as smart, he's already playing this card so early into his PM-ship.

Real change can only come if we are resolved enough to give Pakatan a chance to lead the country the next GE.

If Malays go for Malay unity, Indians go for Indian unity, Chinese go for Chinese unity, Kadazans go for Kadazan unity, Ibans go for Iban unity and a s whole failed to see the nation as one, what we will have will not be 1 Malaysia but infinite number of Malaysias. Why? Simply because when one talks about Malay unity, the other races are used by politicians as the bogeyman and vice versa. So it will be one group against another and not embracing eath other. India became three countries namely Pakistan, Bangladesh and India when Muslims talked about Muslim unity and wanting a separate country and failed to see the country as one nation for all. Sri Lanka entered into a bloody war when the Singhalese called for Singhalese unity and used the Tamils as the bogeymen and started oppressing them. Unfortunately Malaysian students hardly study world history and are totally ignorant of the experiences of other countries. How could they study world history in the first place when they hardly understand English? Well, those who do not learn the lessons of history are bound to repeat the same mistakes.

The flip flop has begun. How can you reconcile two irreconcilable ideas? When you Malays and Muslims unite, what are you uniting against? These was the same question that LKY asked manay decades ago when the UMNO ultras asked Malays to unite. We only need a simple answer to this question. Against what?

1Malaysia? Sounded noble, seems noble, it is anything but noble. Amazing how easily Malaysian can be misled or hoodwinked.

When Najib (a leader of a racist party, exclusively for one race only) start to harp on 1Malaysia concept without
a)any attempt to ratify or dismantle mechanism which promote privileges to only chosen groups or
b)any attempt to outlaw practices of ethnic discrimination
1Malaysia is the last thing on his mind. He is talking about 1Malay.

Confirm with eventual statement as “1Malaysia is unachievable without 1Malay”. What a creative way of promoting racism by low-down (can’t call them politician) scumb*g.

FYI, I am against any form of racism.

What the heck is the PM trying to do??? This is not the kind of stuff expected of a PM unless he is the worshipper of Hitler. When malays are turning away from supporting UMNO he comes up with racial agendas. He even uses the royalty to do his dirty work in Perak. No wonder he is the most tainted PM we ever have. He is a disgrace & amazingly he expect malays to follow his insidious deeds. I have a feeling bad karma is going to befall him soon for all the mess he has created especially attempting to divide the nation more on racial lines.

Najis reminds me of the Khinzir in George Orwell's Animal Farm when he talked of equality for all Malaysian.
In the world of Najis and his Porky Fat Lady Of 1Malaysia, everyone is equal but they are more equal than the rest.
Since seizing power from Pak Lah and engineering the coup in Perak, he has been talking nonsense every time he opens his mouth. Is it a case of empty vessel making the most noise?

End of the day, Malaysia does not need BN. All their ideas are either outdated, way outdated or irrelevant. 1Malaysia? Isn't that some sort of juxtaposition?

In the past decade or so, Malaysia was merely going through the motions. Rhetorics after rhetorics were cut and paste for the hoi polloi, assuming the rakyat were nothing more than pawns for the ruling party.
Now that the rakyat is becoming more assertive, BN is running sh*t scared as their honeypots are being severely threatened.

Those of us who have gone overseas seeking greener pastures can confirm that yes, the grass IS GREENER on the other side. Despite all the rain and benevolence of nature, BN has turned Malaysia into nothing more than a dry tap and desert. Time for the rakyat to dig deep and tell BN to retreat to where the sun don't shine.
