Beyond Lee Kuan Yew’s Visit PDF Print

The problem with MM Lee Kuan Yew's visit to Malaysia is that it elicited two types of responses. One is the bashful adulation which leads many people to find greatness by association.

Meetings with Mr Lee were accordingly turned into publicity spectacles probably used to supplant political prestige. Two, the visit also elicited unflattering condemnation.

Both types of responses prevent our leaders from seeing beyond Lee Kuan Yew. The ethos which Mr Lee represents was lost either in the gushing effusion of adulation or rejected outright on account of revulsion.

What Mr Lee is doing is perhaps to gauge firsthand, the thinking of a representative cross section of the people in Malaysia. Can Malaysia compete with Singapore given the political leadership, economic policies, its resolve, civil service and the social discipline that it has? He has seen people from the government of the day, the opposition, even the PM's wife. He has already sized up the potential of Malaysia and her position with Singapore. He would come back and say- No threat.

In the meantime, the groundswell of public perceptions especially among the Malay grassroots is marginalised. Maybe our leaders have not heard this. Or if they have heard, they pretend it's not true. It's like Dato Nazri Aziz saying, he doubts the poll on corruption. Of course it's dubious if it's damning you. The unmistakable voices from the grassroots are saying UMNO is no longer believable. But then, as Dato Nazri says, that is doubtful.

UMNO did not only create Syed Mokhtar Albukhary, who is not even a malay, but they created also Halim saad and tajuddin Ramli. Both were previously the richest malay. But when the crunch came, they were living in a bubble economy and everything imploded.
Syed Mokhtar is a Yemeni. He adopted malay culture. He own Bernas/Pernas/Tg Pelepas/Johore port/Senai airport/DRB Hicom/MMC/Malakoff/. The biggest IPP belongs to syed mokhtar. How come UMNO gave this guy so much when he is not even a malay?

Is BTN a government organisation or an UMNO ogranisation. If it government organisation, why is supporting courses in the interest of a political party?

There is no doubt that UMNO only helped the UMNOputras - who mainly are not Malays. They are the Indons, mamaks, turks, pakistanis and very soon some Bangla will join the ranks. The Malays will be kept in the kampongs and UMNOputras will try keep them there forever. But the children of the kampong folks are coming to cities and the truth is seen.

NEP obsession was to create millionaires, the more the better. At one time there was a minister who proudly sais that NEP had made 40 millionaires, never mind if it was just taking the money from the people and giving it to them.
Then there was the obsession to climb MT Everest, the north pole erection and south pole drop. Then there was obsession to be space.

All a manifestation of inferiority complex.

Which a bastardised NEP was trying to fix. Including the number of As one can get in an exam. Never mind if the passing mark for A could probably be 25% pr 95% or whatever. Just must top the A chart. If cannot be, take one subject, split into 5 or 6, so that more As can be created.

Trouble with it is at the end of the day, as the wise man says,

" Nobody look down on you, it is you yourself that think too lowly of yourself"
