The Malays will remain a divided group with a possible majority supporting the PAS-Umno camp while the minority (a large one altogether) will be supporting the PKR-DAP in the PR.

Written by Ali Cordoba, World Futures

The Party Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) is in turmoil with trouble brewing at its base and spreading to its leadership. The split, blamed on the press, is however caused by the innocent greed and weaklings of some leaders of the party. It was thought that with the PAS maturing into a 'National' Party, it would be able to hold the keys to Malay political power and overtake the United Malays National Organization (Umno) in this sphere. Alas, the 55th Muktamar of the PAS proved to be of a different dish.

Not only the party has showed its crankiness, being old and outdated, it has also showed its deeper concerns that is salvaging a political mileage that has in reality lost its usefulness. Amid the ramblings and hot headed leaders, accusations flew that Tok Guru Nik Aziz Nik Mat, possibly the most respected and most high Islamic personality in the country, does not represent the party's spokesman ship anymore.

In the wake of this shocking revelation, the party also saw its members slide into mudslinging and in backstabbing that resulted in the Malaysian web sphere burning with such rage and angry ramblings. Only cool minds can make such aggravated situations past but with most of the opposition supporters reeling in shock and awe against the leaders of the PAS who supports a probable alliance with the Umno, there is little to be seen but the innocent witchery that we witnessed since Saturday last.

The PAS' leadership has to stop being presumptuous into believing that the party as it is and the mess it threw itself voluntarily in, holds any keys to Malay unity and to Malay political power. The reality on the ground and the facts in Malaysia with regards to the PAS says a different story: The party is supported by a mere 20% of the voting population. It won most of the seats in Selangor and Perak thanks to the partners in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. Its claims that it will hold the post of Prime Minister is futile since the entire world knows that Anwar Ibrahim is the de-facto future Prime Minister of a PR government and will be supported as such by the crowds that responds to his presence in almost all the states in Malaysia.

The crude reality is that the PAS has won more votes and seats in 1999 that it could ever dream of under the rule of Tun Mahathir Mohamad thanks to the 'black eye' of Anwar Ibrahim. It was also lucky to hold the key posts in more states after the 2008 General Elections (GE) thanks to the campaigning by Anwar Ibrahim – who did so by taking high risks of being arrested during the campaign since he was under a ban.

Nevertheless, no amount of tale will change what some PAS leaders did during the 55th Muktamar, a Muktamar that has shamed the opposition and silence Anwar Ibrahim while it has surely broken the heart of Tok Guru Nik Aziz. In politics, there's little emotion and the cruelty of this adage has been proven once again with what many sees as a betrayal in clear broad daylight by the PAS against its PR partners.

I predict the biggest loser comes GE13 will be PAS. All PAS candidates aligned to pro-UMNO camp (Hadi & Nash) better looked for 'safe' seats cos all non-muslim voters will not vote for them.

For PR to win GE13, they better start courting new political parties in East Malaysia .... again don't bother recruiting ex-BN guys to stand ... look for new professionals!

Jadi Bawang and Isa .. how dare you sideline Tok Guru !

If you want to be SO UNITED with BN or UMNO, maybe you should consider quitting PAS and join BN-UMNO. Leave PAS alone !

Next election, we must decide who to support and who to REJECT from PAS.

PAS, time for another muktamar !

Kalau 2 ekor ni tak bertaubat, PAS akan jadi Parti Anak Sial.

And we should to think that PAS is the most disciplined of the three Pakatan component parties. Are they?

Many foot soldiers of PAS did their part in the so many pro-rakyat events such as Bersih Walk, the March 8th GE campaigning, the by-elections, etc. and the discipline shown by their Amal units were admirable. And I sympathize with these PAS members who believe in Pakatan and in the wisdom of their Tok Guru. I hope they continue to show respect and support to Tok Guru. Tok Guru has earned the right to be respected, if not revered by the party. For Nasha to swipe aside Tok Guru is plain disrespectful. Just like Nazri attacked Mahathir after the old man stepped down. Plain stupid disrespect.

I que is this, PR has to work on the Malays that race and religion stays put but the nation's interest stands ahead.

Each time , race andreligion issues are brought up, it seems like the 50 year goverment has the lead of control.

Again, education is the key factor. I apologise when i comment on this, but more Malays must be shown the world.

All I can say is 'I told you so'.

What a sad day for PAS when it takes a non-Muslim like Guan Eng to expose an Ustad and PAS President as a fraud and scoundrel.

"PAS should explain to the PR leadership as the statement is completely untrue"

"coming from a religious person saying that the issue has been discussed within the PR when it was never raised, he is not only answerable to the other parties in PR but also to God"

It seems that the PAS President feels that he is more answerable to UMNO than Allah. Let him worship his true God. There is freedom of worship in Malaysia!

PAS is clearly split. The vote for the Deputy President confirmed this. But let us make no mistake, the "Erdoganists" in PAS represent the majority - 56% (combined Husam and Sabu share of the vote).

Let Hadi and his treacherous band of opportunists join UMNO. Let them help rehabilitate BN if they can. BN at the moment has lost Chinese and Indian support and Malay support too is rapidly flagging. Islam has always been a rallying force for the naive faithful. Throughout history they have been exploited by political opportunists who use Islam for personal power. Naive Muslims are just pawns to be exploited by the likes of Hadi and Nasharuddin. UMNO has used racial supremacy as a means to gain support but Malays have increasingly come to realise they too have been taken for a ride by UMNO.

By taking on PAS, it would would help UMNO stem the haemorrhage of Malay support but it will make MCA and MIC more vulnerable and irrelevant to their traditional support base who will see these parties as mere puppets to UMNO and PAS. Furthermore, the PAS UMNO tie up will make Sabah and Sarawak less of a 'fixed deposit' for UMNO because it will be seen as increasingly 'Islamic' if PAS joins. UMNO is playing with fire if it forms a coalition with the Ulama faction PAS.

I for one would welcome a PAS UMNO tie up. It would spell the end of political Islam in Malaysia which has invariably bastardised the faith and never morally uplifted the Malays which it wants to control. Their actions speak louder than all their words and Azan prayers.

The 'Erdogan faction' which represent the majority of PAS delegates can break away and form 'PAS Baru' to be a new member of Pakatan. Can you imagine the potential of Pakatan if that materialises ? We are talking about a landslide victory at the next general election. Sabah and Sarawak will at last have Merdeka from the Malay/Muslim colonialists. The nation will never have witnessed such unity!

In case PAS supporters did not realise this, 'Erdoganism' is another word for Secular Islam. Erdogan, the Turkish PM comes from a party which has Islamic roots but he has sworn to uphold the secular constitution of Turkey.

I leave true Muslims here to define what type of Islamic governance the other 44% of PAS delegates voted for . They seem to find common ground with UMNO and want to engage in 'unity talks' with them.

All I can say is that if you lie with dogs be prepared to pick up fleas!

Hadi and Nasharudin knew that:
1. PR had gave way to PAS candidatesto contest in some of the constituencies where PKR/DAP could have won.
2. Anwar campaigned for PAS giving high boost to the morale of PAS and PKR supporters combined.
3. PR, or more specific DAP, gave way to PAS candidate to be the MP of Perak.
4. PAS had the suport of the Chinese and some Indians during the GE12 because of its aliance with PR and its change in attitude towrds the non-Muslims.
5. PAS has shown its unwillingness to work with UMNO because UMNO is corrupted to the core and the chronic problems of the poor Muslims were not addressed.
6. Datuk Guru Nik Aziz is most respected spiritual leader by the raayat including Chinese and some Indians.

Now if Hadi and Nasharudin has delibertely ignore these the only logical explanation is that they are bought over. Simple as that.

A good Malay unity is bad for the Malays' economy. Why?
That will make the Malays less likely to upset among themselves. In business you are there not to make friends but to make money.
That is why the most successful Malay business person are helped by a Chinese or an Indian person behind him. He used a non Malays to upset the Malays. But the non Malays end up hiring non Malays.
How offen you see a Malay supervisor telling off another Malay worker?
Malay unity is a gain for others too.

We are all dreaming if we think that PAS will change overnight. Don't forget that these are people who are like the Talibans, believing that they are God's chosen few with a mission to save our souls. The reason they have shown some tolerance after the last GE is all due to the votes given to them, thanks to the PR coalition and in no small way to the BN corrupt ways. Since then, they have from time to time still exhibited their extremism, the latest is the banning of SIS issue. Imagine if they are the government. It will be more than banning of black T-shirt I think. When the time is ripe, they will betray the PR coalition and join the BN. To stop them, the only way is to ensure they do not have the numbers to form a majority government with Umno. Personally, I've been fooled by them.

It is disheartening that whatever goodwill generated over the last GE has been tarnished so rapidly by the greed of a few in PAS. I remember having to coerced, and educate the non muslims in and around my area of practice to vote for PAS inspite of their over zealous brand of Islam. All the effort generated prior to GE12 has gone to waste. They'll never vote for PAS again, and neither would I.

The outrage is appropriate and should be loud. Make no mistake, the support of the majority of the people is for Pakatan Rakyat and not for the ambition of any singular man nor a single party. It's the will of the people for justice and equality, not for the obscene political ambition of any person. Whatever goodwill Tok Guru Nik Aziz has made over his years has come to a naught.

I echo proarte suggestion for those not aligned to hadi and his deputy to form a new secular "Edroganists". Group under the banner of PR and come GE 13 there will be complete annihilation for Ameno and their stooges. Move with the times, racial politics and narrow mono - occulaic visions has no room in the 21st century. When the most "hip" thing to do is to be "color blind", when the US can elect a person with color why not we Bolehsians look beyond that?

I found this paragraph from a blogger on PAS analysis:

So, is PAS interested in converting Islam or governing this countr? I might misunderstood the article. So, if there is PAS folks maybe you can explain the article or the paragraph. Thank you.

Why are you dancing to the tune of BN? The issue is created to give the picture as though PAs is divided between the two leaders. What did Haji hadi say? He said talks will go on because Islam has never close doors to talk. History had proven that Islam is approachable, is tolerable, is open o discussion and talks! What's so wrong with talking to the enemy?

Why are you so paranoid?Haji hadi and Nasa had made it clear that PAS is not joining UMNO! All they intend to do is to hold talks for the good of the nation. Even DSAI had made it public once that he was ready to talk with najib on the issue of Perak. Have you forgotten about it?

So please, don't follow what BN has scripted it out of our ignorance and prejudice. We will fall into their trap again! smilies/sad.gif smilies/sad.gif
