From Chin Peng to Utusan's recent editorial attack on non-Malays, we have to acknowledge a reality in Malaysia - some segments of the society are still caught in a time warp.

Many societies and countries that were more divided than ours had moved on and left their division behind.

South Africa had ended 'apartheid' and implemented a much needed national healing for their racially divided society. The Berlin wall had crumbled. Communism in its purest form had ended and the world's biggest communist country, China, is anything but practicing hardcore communism. It had embraced capitalism since two decades ago.

More than three decades ago, there was no free access to China. Today, Prime Minister Najib's visit to China is played up by our local media as an important foreign affair move by the government to bolster relationship with the East Asian giant.

It is a fact that the world has changed and is still changing almost daily. Hence, it is a huge disappointment to note that our political rhetoric still remain the same. Recalcitrant politicians and editors are still calling non-Malay Malaysians, especially Chinese Malaysians, 'pendatang' or migrants.

Malaysians, born and bred in this country, are still being told to feel grateful for their citizenship. A political party is still boasting about its post-colonial credentials.

Only UMNO want to perpetuate their success formula to plunder. The rakyat are dying for change which will happen in next GE. Once the New Malaysia is born, we can then leave behind the old Malaysia and start anew.

Change is the only constant
Without it we will go astern
Let's all unite to make it happen
And make sure UMNO will never return....

Dear m2day.org readers,

I am making an appeal to everyone to please spread the message to your friends, colleagues and relatives, to ignore the Chin Peng issue, which was brought up by that idiot Teng in Gerakan.

The Chin Peng issue is a ploy by Gerakan, whether with or without instructions from their political master UMNO, to stir the racial shitpot. Lets be very honest about this issue, by asking a very simple 2 simple questions:

a) The government (the Federal Court) had already turned down Chin Peng's appeal so many moons already, so why bring it up again and bring it up now?

b) What is so important about this One man that Gerakan must try and bring him home? What would be the benefit to our country? Is he bringing back gazillions of US Dollars to help out the economy? Would his return be of some national symbolic value which would be for the betterment of the rakyat? Answer: NONE whatsoever.

Now, lets turn our attention to the effect of the idiot Teng's suggestion for Chin Peng to return:

1) Immediately there was hue and cry from the ex-Policemen association (I know the PDRM are out of favour, but we are talking about the honest joes who served long time ago).

2) There were whispers of race factors - that the Malay commies were allowed back, why not this Chinaman - Chin Peng?

3) There were whispers among the Malays that the Chinese are still backing a coomie who was in turned previously backed by China.

4) Utusan, in their columnist Awang Selamat's article hinted at it, saying that the pendatangs are making demands - although he didn't say what were those demands.

There are more but I think the above would suffice to give you an idea whats this Chin Peng thing is all about.

Btw, for your info, when the Peace accord was signed with the Malayan Communist Party, there was an amnesty period of two years (I think) for the ex-commies to return to Malaysia. Most chose to return except the Chin Peng fella. So whats the fuss now?

Besides, the government also gave money and in fact spent quite a tidy sum to help the ex-commies to resume a normal life. many of them are now retired happily and some are even big time business men.

So, forget about this Chin Peng thing. Its damaging our progress, and thats what Gerakan and BN-UMNO wants - to see a racial divide open up again.

Many who voted in the 308 tsunami general elections have indeed begun to leave the old Malaysia behind.
But the UMNOputras control the MSM and 'Utusan Melayu' have ensured that the 'pendatang's are continually reminded of their 'proper' place in Malaysian society.
These ketuanan Melayu advocates cannot see beyond their narrow parochial race supremacy views, that it is time to put the baggage of the colonial years behind.
For those of us born after the Merdeka, Malaysia is our only home!
Period.

I blame it on Gerakan and certain sector of the Chinese community. If you send the wrong message the response is going to be negative. Some Chinese demonstrate the attitude of chauvinism when arguing for CP's return without checking out the facts that many ex-communists who have been accepted to return are in fact Chinese. CP is no exception except that he has his own pride. He wants to deal with the government in his own way but he cannot be an exception. The consequences he is facing now is due to his undoing. Given the chance twice, one during Tengku time and then during Mahathir's time but he has his own ideas. If he could have agreed or observe the conditions and processes of the agreement, he is already save now in Setiawan. Fighting for his return now will bring back all the bitter memories and some young Chinese fail to accept history and get worked out on speculation and adultaration.

Please forget this old man and focus on the future for PKR to consolidate, win the GE and change what has been an unfortunate part of our history.

SamYap, frankly it matters not to any MT reader whether Chin Peng comes back or not. MT is an open place for discussion. If we cannot discuss an issue in a mature way , why have MT for? It is a place to voice our views, isn't it? Didn't Tun M just said that it is a place for truth? Both sides have stories to tell. So go ahead. I find it very interesting to know about the past, and I have absolutely no hard feelings for all our faceless MT readers. Are the readers going to go out on the street tomorrow to have a fight? Surely not. I agree with the writer "It is time we leave the old, haggard and divisive Malaysia behind". Our forefathers are gone, we are the 2nd, 3rd and 4th generations, we are no longer at war with the communists, we are at war with BN, and we are moving forward.

Brother Pete,
The problem with Chin Peng is not because he is a Communist fighters or sort of ………..The biggest problem is that Older Malaysian’s is still hurting and feel the pain caused by what The Communist have done during their Arms struggle with the Government in the early days……….Which is destruction, killing and torturing to the common people and the armed forces (army& police) members as well as to the various Public Infrastructure and Utilities……….As a son of retired Malaysian army ………I am still hating and against the Communist believed and their doctrine……….But as a human being………I feel we should give Chin Peng chances to repent and returning back…………But only after he ask for forgiveness and dissociates himself from the Communist believe in Public ………He should start to use the word ……………I Am Sorry to All Malaysian!!!

Your feelings are well expressed, and very gentlemanly, Tongkat Pak Ali. My mother was hurting very badly too. All she had in her mind was - the security forces were Malay, so she hated the Malays. When her son dated a Malay girl, all hell broke loose. From a neutral point of view - I can understand my mother, but at the same time my brother said "what is wrong"? Isn't this the same reaction we are getting from people about Chin Peng? No point getting angry with each other. We are all humans and we have different views, but that does not mean we are bad just because we disagree. So for those hurt by the communists, I can sympathise with and understand their feelings.
