Kit Siang: Sour grapes Najib should put up or shut up PDF Print

DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang has slammed Prime Minister Najib Razak for sour grapes over the Pakatan Rakyat’s runaway win at the recent Penanti by-election, daring the unpopular PM to seek a confidence vote from Parliament if he was truly “brave enough”.

Contending that Najib was the last person in Malaysia to question the solidity of the Pakatan’s win - especially on the basis that “the voter turnout was less than 50 percent” -  Kit Siang pointed out that Najib’s own approval rating was itself well below the halfway mark.

Said Kit Siang: “It is indeed shocking that less than two months into his administration, Najib could only muster the approval of 45 per cent of Malaysians polled recently in a Merdeka Centre survey.

“Najib should seek a vote of confidence as the first item of parliamentary business when Parliament reconvenes on June 15 for the next meeting, or is Najib afraid that he would not be able to get 100 per cent support from UMNO and Barisan Nasional MPs?”

“Both Tun Hussein Onn and Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi sought a vote of confidence from Parliament in their first month in office as Prime Minister. Why is Najib afraid to follow in their footsteps?”

Pakatan’s Mansor Othman had steamrolled over three Independent candidates at by-election for the Penanti state seat. He swept 85 percent or 6,052 out of a total 7,100 votes cast.

However, the voter turnout was only 46 percent, thanks mainly to Umno’s boycott of the contest on Sunday. Having lost in four of the past five by-elections Najib had decided to skip Penanti in a bid to prevent further political damage to himself and his party.

The Merdeka Centre of Opinion Research had on Tuesday released its latest survey. It showed that only half of Najib’s own Malay community were happy him. The Chinese outright distrusted him, with only 24 percent willing to say they were satisfied with his performance as PM. The Indians however loved him, with 64 percent giving him the thumbs up.

The Indians previously use to love the Samy-Mahathir a/l Mohamed combination very much also. They thought it was the panacea for all their ills but as it turned out, it became their very source misery. Looks like now they want to make the same mistake again by giving the thumbs up to Najib

Lets see him stand for election as PM, the post inherited, and see how he fairs.

I guarantee there will be more sore grapes for him.

Telling Najib to butt off is nothing. He is the one who do not want BN to contest in Penanti now, he should shut his mouth. Which fools said that the Indians support Samy, this Samy Velu's bluff to Najib to carry his balls. This is the old trick of Samy. The Indians in Malaysia do not support any parties in BN after they realise that BN have screwed their for too long.

It has long been prophesized that Najib is the last UMNO anointed PM of Malaysia under the old framework of racially divided country.

With every passing day, there is stronger and stronger indication that this prophesy will come to pass. UMNO and all the BN component parties are terminally ill and there is no way of regaining the trust and respect of the rakyat. Since the BN government is on death watch, it will only deteriorate. The ills of the past are now coming home to roost. More dirts will be thrown: corrupt schemes will be exposed. Abuses of power, embezzlements and private arrangements will also be revealed. Basically, UMNO/BN cabinet members are nothing but a den of thieves who live off the sweats and tears of the rakyat.

Forget Najib! We need to look beyond Najib's short reign to find new faith and hope in the nation.

There is no way that Najib or his colleagues can pull Malaysia out of the doldrums. The people are already put off with his hypocrisy and half baked ideas.

Everyday, more problems are surfacing than available options for Najib to solve them. Besides the police and the court what else can the government do to suppress dissenting opinions? Yes, the government can intimidate and jail the people, but it has to build many more prisons to contain the opposition.

The UMNO/BN leaders are under siege and there is no where to turn. Because of the way the country is administered and the UMNO political philosophy, there is only one option. That is to find an honorable exit for all the cabinet members and call for a new mandate.

It is far better for UMNO/BN to turn over its rein of power to the new team of leaders if it is to save the country from further declines.
