(Bernama) - Police will stop any ceramah ("lecture") which incite and slander others during campaigning for the Penanti by-election.

Media relations officer Supt Shaharon Anuar Abdul Latif said this was because parties and candidates should not contravene the conditions in the ceramah permits.

"Police will move in and stop ceramah that incite and slander other people," he told a press conference here today.

"Those who flout the law will be hauled up under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 and Section 105 of the Criminal Procedure Code."

Shaharon Anuar said 21 ceramah have been held, all with police permits, and that they were conducted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, Mohd Saberi Othman has filed a police report over the rejection of his nomination papers for the Penanti state by-election by the Election Commission (EC) last Saturday.

Police to maintain law and order to reduce crime. not to keep checks so much on politics. Dont know if it is JPA to decide on their jobscope and KPI ? Can the relevant ministry look into this?

After the ISA which is detention without trial based on the judgement of a single minister, the police now give themselves the power to stop ceramahs based on the sole judgement of the policeman in charge. Welcome to 1 Malaysia.

Is the police a competent authority to determine slander ? Is, for example, saying that tuya was murdered by a SB officer a slander when he himself had admitted to the crime ? If the speaker mentioned that inspector gan did not really investigated the murder case a slander when he himself admitted under oath that the didn't know a lot of things because he did not investigated the matter ?

If the police stopped a speech because he thought it was slander then the police officer had just arrogated upon himself the role of a judge and executioner.

How about sedition ? Doesn't the criticising of the police a form of sedition, even if it was true ?

When the police made senseless demand we know we have an oversensitive executive.

What he meant was the police will move in on anyone who talks bad about Umno. Anjing ini Polis. If that is the case, all ceramahs by Pakatan will be stopped and all speakers arrested.
