(The Malaysian Insider) - A meeting between MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and PAS vice president Datuk Husam Musa has led to a consensus that fresh polls are the way forward to form a stable government in Perak.
The meeting between the two leaders is one of several across the political divide that was announced by Husam on Saturday. Others will be with Umno stalwart Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah and some Gerakan leaders who, like Chua, said a dissolution of the assembly is the only way out of the impasse. PAS’s stand on the matter, that the government should be decided by Perakians, has been made clear since the February 5 putsch by Barisan Nasional (BN). Dr Chua confirmed in a statement today that he was of the same opinion as Husam in the meeting where he was accompanied by his son, Labis MP Chua Tee Yong and MCA central committee member Loh Seng Kok. “I conveyed to Husam that if the court decides that Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin is the rightful mentri besar of Perak, then he should convene an emergency state assembly to see whether he enjoys the support of the majority of the state assemblyman. “If he fails to command the majority of the assemblyman, then he should seek an audience with the Sultan to resign as the MB and let the party who enjoys the support of the majority of state assemblymen be the MB or dissolve the assembly and call for fresh elections with the consent of the Sultan,” he said. However, Dr Chua pointed out that whoever has a majority in the current assembly would still not be able to form a stable government. Thus, there is “a need for a fresh state election” at “some point of time” according to the former health minister but he called for some form of co-operation between Pakatan Rakyat and BN in order to resolve the stalemate in the meantime. Both he and Husam agreed that the protracted politicking in Perak is doing nobody any good. Dr Chua also said that both parties in the meeting had agreed that “there is too much politicking presently.” “The rakyat are tired of politicians. The time has come that we should move forward for the good of the nation and the rakyat.”
