Why I was arrested PDF Print
Thursday, 31 January 2008 08:13

I was arrested at 4:30p.m. on Saturday, 26 January 2008, at a foodcourt in the vicinity of Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, Kuala Lumpur.

{mosgoogle right} I was released unconditionally from Pudu Jail (now known as Balai Polis Jalan Hang Tuah) at approximately 10:30p.m. on Sunday, 27 January 2008, after a magistrate rejected a remand application by the police to further detain me (and nine other people, including Tian Chua and Dr. Hatta).

Obviously, I was annoyed that I was arrested whilst I was trying to ask the police why they wanted to arrest Tian Chua and Dr. Hatta, especially when they were merely having drinks and talking to journalists at that time. I knew that the over-zealous SB (special branch police officer) simply decided to arrest me because I questioned their actions.

Indeed, when I asked an officer by the name of Woon who was standing nearby whether he was sure that the proper orders have been given to arrest me, he brushed aside my query and did not dare to say anything. Moreover, the location where we were arrested was beyond the one kilometre boundaries illustrated in the preventive court order obtained by the police.

You should sue the police for false arrest so that hopefully at in the future the police will be more careful in making indiscriminate arrests.

This kind of stuff they (POLICE) are good at doing but when it comes to real thing like solved murder case, crimes case, kidnapped case the response is slower than normal time taken...

Goodness, I may be ignorant of the rights of the citizens when it comes to police's rights to arrest people but I am shocked that Malaysian Lawyers offer only a whimper when they know that their rights are being taken away.

Now that you have personally being violated both legally and morally, both in the capacity as a lawyer and as a human being, what are YOU going to do about it?
It is understandable if the regular average guy feels frustrated, helpless and hopeless but you are a lawyer, the very epitome of law and justice - what are YOU going to do about it?

It's because the police have nothing else to do! They can't even investigate a petty thief case! Forget about kidnapping, rape, robbery cases! smilies/angry.gif They might as well arrest those pesky loud people who were having lunch! smilies/grin.gif smilies/grin.gif Should we respect Malaysian police? smilies/cheesy.gif I certainly not!

We strongly condemn the Police Force especially the Special Branch for not following the proper procedures when arresting the citizens for Malaysia.

Its this kind of abuses by the police we Malaysians should stand up against. The police must not only be law enforcers but also follow the law. They cannot be allowed to arrest ppl as they like. The writer beig a lawyer knows what he was doing what about the layman. What protection do we have against police abuses. We are also human being and a citzen of the country. Please Govt its your duty to protect us citzens. The bad ones are roaming the streets and creating havoc while those who stand for the love of the country is harressed and taken into custody.WHere are we heading too.Can a nation progress if its ppl are suppressed, oppressed and denied their basic right.....We love our country too.

I can see there is a breach here. That's Malaysia. In Malaysia doctors, lawyers and politicians are all in a league on its own. They all living in a fantasy world supported by the working class person. The working class person works his/her guts out only to be siphoned by this so call elite group of people.
You tell me how many of these 3 groups will give up their comfort zone to serve the working class person. Most of them have very little interest for the working class person other than the fees and charges. I scratch your back you scratch mine while the working class person is forced to scratch the elite's back with gun on their head.
If you are a working class person I encourage your kids to go West not to return if possible with the current status. If you got no kids stay that way and take your generation to the grave which I think it is a happier place to be.
In the West the sweat you pay to the taxman will return to you if you are a working class person.
So lawyers stop crying wolf.
For Malaysia we don't need Islam, Biddhist or Hindu, Gandhi, Tengku Abdul Rhaman, Lim Kiat Siang, Anwar, the West, Wong Fai Hong, Hang Tuah, etc etc
What Malaysia needs is a modern day Robin HOOD so that the AGONG can free his people from the shackles.
