(The Malaysian Insider) - “Thank God for Mahathir,” DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said as he celebrated the huge wins in Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau last night.

His four words captured everything that was wrong with Umno and Barisan Nasional’s strategy to recapture the two hills lost in Election 2008. They spoke about race not respect, development not democracy, faith not friendship and treason not trust.

No on said it better than Umno's latest prize, Member 0000001 Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who rejoined the party he founded and endorsed Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak as a better prime minister than Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who was his hand-picked successor.

Mahathir, complete with his signature smirk and olive bush jacket, campaigned like in the past by telling the people all the goodness of Barisan Nasional and why the various races have to compromise for the better future of the country.

Nothing wrong with his message, which the opposition thought could swing votes back to Barisan Nasional.

Except the people have heard the same for the 22 years he was in power. And the five-odd years that Abdullah barely managed after that.

The good folks in Batang Ai bought the message although Mahathir did not turn up there. Was the message wrong or was the messenger wrong? Or maybe voters in the peninsula have changed and want some change too.

But the change in Umno or Barisan Nasional did not seem to have happened. The lessons of Election 2008 went unheeded as Umno-BN campaigned the time-honoured way with Umno leading and its allies in tandem.

Only MIC’s president for a record 11th term Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu went about his own way in Bukit Selambau and in hindsight, his critics are calling it a mistake. He had no sense of irony, announcing term limits for top MIC office bearers being on top for 30 years to reflect reforms.

He wasn’t alone in thinking that way.

Newly-elected Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the voters’ decision was similar and the ruling coalition “must see what needs to be changed”

“You must understand, this is not our seat and not our state, we did not lose our own seat. So to look at it in such a defeated manner... I am not prepared to do that,” said Hishammuddin, who headed the Bukit Selambau campaign.

Barisan Nasional by-election director Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called for an independent study to look into the reasons for the two defeats but denied it was a referendum on new prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“Maybe the people have a feel-good factor relating to Najib’s premiership, but they have yet to absorb the good feelings,” the new Umno deputy president said.

Maybe he is right. But maybe the people have changed and want something better than just race, development, faith or treason.

Maybe they just want respect, democracy and friendship and trust.

The people have changed. Once during Election 2008. Four times since then with bigger wins to the opposition.

Can Umno now change to win them back?

Congratulation to the winners. I still however can't believe that close to 25,000 voter went for BN in the 2 seats. That BN/UMNO can still convince that many voyers, barring phantom voters, is disturbing. Nonetheless, a victory is a victory.
Can UMNO change? Certainly, but only for the worse as history has proven.

Can UMNO change? CANNOT. Because it is a race-based party! It no longer works for a modern mutli-racial country. Period!

Pakatan Rakyat won handsomely becuase its leaders especially our much loved Ghandian Tok Guru of PAS and DAP's Ghandhi in the form of Lim Guan Eng are living examples of pious and holy beings walking the footstep of our holy and much admired Prophet Nabi Muhammad (p.b.u.h). Look at the way AMENO leaders displays and spalshes all its ill gotten and sinful wealth (harm under true Islam) and you will notice the majority pious rakyat's seething anger. All ones needs to do is compare the majority rakyat's suffering during these troubled times with the outpourting wealth, splendour and waste displayed by these parasitic BN scumbag leaders. Rakyat are now more aware of which party leaders are following the footsteps of our holy Prophet Muhammad and in this world of instant electronic communicated press and media curtailment cannot hide the truth. Let this be a lesson to all future leaders of AMENO and BN.

"Why the various races have to compromise for the better future of the country"
Why should calling the people who are born in this country malaysians be a subject of compromise and that they have to endure as a second class citizens? Why should fairness and equality for all its citizens be a subject of compromise so much so that certain people get discriminated and deprived of by abusive policies from a self serving and arrogant political party? Why should human dignity and liberty be a subject of compromise that certain ruling party can lord over the people just because they can control the enforcement agencies and the judiciary? Who does this compromise provide a better future for? Are the people being discriminated and deprived by the unjust government policies promoted by the racist politcial party expecting a better future? For all the misery he has caused to the undeserving people from his past racist policies, he should stop all his nonsense before he become the cause of UMNO's total rejection from all fair minded malaysians.

The message is clear that the rakyat not interested to listen to UMNO or BN anymore. Cannot cheat anymore.
'Enough is Enough'
Mahathir is like old news paper ( surat khabar lama )boleh buang dalam tong sampah.

Muhyiddin said he wants to do posmoterm. I think the BN candidates Ganesan and Ismail Saffian already dead. Tha's why Muhyddin wants to do the posmoterm.

Our Keris muddin wants to see what needs to be changed, change you head man.

It is a clear message that the people hate BN. So don't wayang anymore.

It's difficult to win in Sarawak because PR doesn't have the resources yet to really get their message through to the rural areas. BN's hanky panky with ballot boxes and other election trickery merely compounded the problem. The Opposition can do one thing, though - give Mahathir a free air ticket to speak to the crowds there. Guarantee to win victory after victory for PR.

I do not wish for UMNO/BN to change. They have used up all the trust the people have given them for 50 years. Why should we trust them to have real change?

My wish is for Pakatan to work hard to groom their leaders and members to be prepared to form a good government. Currently Pakatan still has a lot of iffy people and opportunists. They have to be weeded out. While thats being done, the leaders need to polish their act. Example: Lim Guan Eng needs a refresher course in socio-political economics. Anwar needs to continue his image makeover and less drama in his "BIG" announcements, and more importantly sell himself as a redeemer to overcome lingering doubts about his UMNO past.

Lots of hardwork ahead for Pakatan, before they make a real bid to takeover.

Come on people...grow up and think lah! In the first place if BN is really an outstanding administrator there would be no problem lah! They are the REAL FOOLS and there is no way for them to realize that they are fools. So how can foolish people change? Only intelligent people from Pakatan can make changes lah. We, the average intelligent already knew BN is very foolish. And only them the foolish BN people thought that we the intelligent rakyat is foolish!
