It would seem that some of these tin miners have had one-too-many days in the sun. Why? Even dumber politicians refusing to let them progress, because, with the insistence of Chinese Schools, they are falsely led to believe that upon graduation, they will get good paying jobs. Why do I say this? These Chinese-Educated Retards, graduate with absolutely no skill in handling a semi-decent conversation with a native English/ American speaker. What is vomited out is a freak of the most horrible mutated form of English. Grotesquely, these brain-dead Chinese proudly pat themselves on the back and proudly call it "Manglish", while their idiot Singaporean Cousins proudly call it "Singlish". How embarrassing, languishing and wallowing in "uneducated-ness". If you are lucky, you can catch the "Ang Moh's" giggling at your ineptness. That is, if you even have the intellect to know whom they are giggling at. You claim to speak "British English", yet when an Englishman is standing in front of you, neither one of you understand each other. How pathetic. Carry a paper bag, cut two holes for the eyes. And cover your head in shame.

The Global Business World judge people by one's ability to speak English. Lack of it is understood as a lack of intellect capability. This applies even though you are a qualified rocket scientist. And their "investment" conversations will drift elsewhere, and to other individuals who can carry out a comprehensible conversation, usually, where the billion dollar deals are then given to. Perhaps that is why, the very same politicians who hurriedly herd your children to Chinese Schools send their own kids overseas. They know this. And they are not willing to tell you. And why should they? They need to have a STUPID Population to govern. In the Land of the Blind, the one-eyed jack is KING.

Just because the Triads and Gangsters thrive alongside the "Ah Longs" peddling in contra-band or knock-off items along the streets does not mean the greedy Chinese are successful. Gone are the days when Opium Dens and Brothels were the "Badges of Wealth". That was Yap Ah Loy's era. That was Yap Ah Loy's income. Yes. Yap Ah Loy, had many Yap Ah Moi's. In fact he had a battalion of 300 Yap Ah Moi's to feed the lustful Chinese in 1885. Unfortunately, this Neanderthal mentality has not been updated yet.

You claim "Economic Dominance". But in reality, are you really in charge? You bloody Fourth Class Citizen Dogs have absolutely no clue, nor do you care that the country which you live in is infested with greedy politicians. "I know so and so", and that is how you do business. Are you crazy? You end up working 25 hours a day like a mongrel, only to feed some lazy-ass effortlessly leeching on the spoils of your hard work. Worse, you change jobs faster than you can change your underwear for the sake of those extra few bucks. Barely learning anything useful to improve oneself to justify the miserable 5 cents pay increase. Malaysian Chinese suffer severe shortsightedness. This myopic disease transcends itself and is most obvious in the younger generation. Rainbow-colored hair and body piercings that shame a tailor's pin-cushion amidst the drone of monotonous Canto-Pop seems to replace the need for anything useful or meaningful. Confucius says, "Man don't look like Man, Ghost don't look like Ghost"

Where are the parents amidst all this? In a completely different world chasing the phantom "God of Money". What future does your child have, being raised by foreign Maids? Returning home, all you do is let your life be dictated by the "Wa Lai Toi" schedule. Crying and sobbing at fictitious characters with their fictitious problems. Don't you have enough problems of your own already? Do you need the TV to act as the Opium of your Mind, numbing it, till the reality of the World ceases to exist anymore?

And the numerous overpriced visits to the soothsayers and "bomohs" who rape and molest YOUR women and CHILDREN. Don't you ever learn? How many families must be destroyed before you come to your senses? Your children grow up in a place where crime is an accepted everyday occurrence. Only AFTER your wife, or your sister, or daughters are raped before you even lift an eyelid. "Not my Problem", "Won't happen to me." or "It's the other people who do it" are the most common lame excuses. Screw the "I am going to take my wealth back to MY China homeland." You've been here for too long, and you will never go back. Even the mainland Chinese reject you. Treat you as an outsider. Why? Because you are an outsider now. You have been, the first day your great-grandparents left China.

Chinese formula for life:

a) go to CHINESE SCHOOL

b) Get a job

c) Get Married

d) Have your 2.3 children

e) Retire

f) Die

Furthermore, all you care about is FOOD. The Chinese are such PIGS. Eating all the time!! Contesting among yourselves to see who can find the BEST restaurant. Let me tell you this, regardless what you eat today, be it a $1 pack of Nasi Lemak or a $1,000 slice of Abalone, it still will come out tomorrow morning as SHIT !! Unless of course, you have constipation. But then again, you anal-retentive Chinese maggots don't really care.

You are pathetic!! UMNO people have the right to HATE you. UMNO has the right to step all over you. And get Fat and Rich because of you. You deserve it. I'm really worried looking at the direction MT seems to be taking. First a series of muslim-bashing articles, now a chinese-bashing article. What's going on, RPK?

How do you expect us to unite and fight the common enemy (corruption, abuse of power, discrimination, fraud, etc) with articles like these?

Chick can be a Chinese surname. I think he is a Chinese who is angry at the way we are conducting our affairs. To a cerain extent he is right. The average Chinese is mercenary, selfish and myopic. Principles are secondary to the common man, unlike the scholars. Look at what the Jews do. They are just as mercenary as the Chinese but they go into positions of power as well. Listen to our greetings: Have you eaten yet? Happy Prosperous New Year. Food and wealth seem to be our main preoccupation. Still, I have to agree with several of his points. Being a Malaysian Chinese, I see the self interest mentality everyday; in people I see walking by, in my friends, in my relatives, in my own family members. It is how a majority of us are brought up, and I'd be a lying ahole if I said I was not influenced by this "ge ge goo ge ge" attitude. How can I be otherwise, when you are considered a minority, someone to be stepped on by the majority when the going is good, and to be blamed when the going's bad? When you treat a person like an animal, to be petted and whipped as you please, that person will slowly become an animal.

What Michael doesn't talk about is, even in this "dog eat dog" world we live in, there are still people who walk the talk, as it were. So my question, Mr Chick, is this: If I can read and write English as well or better than you can, are you willing to learn to read and write Chinese (or Tamil, or Malay, or Creole if it strikes your interest) as well or better than I can?

It is an open secret that the majority of chinese schools produce drop outs who work as cooks, or graduates who sell pirated VCDs. We are aware that chinese schools are a failure in teaching english. I have met school graduates who cannot construct 5 sentences in english before lapsing into malay, and a few who cannot count to more than 100.

Its only chinese who think their schools are good. But really its just a community hall for chinese kids to bond.

I am not sure what's the objective of this article but I am very sure many chinese are kiasu, selfish, greedy, know how to make malays fat, etc. I use the word "many" but I am saying all the chinese as depicted. What the writer see is the other side of the chinese.

How many chinese like Kit Siang, Guan Eng, even Chin Peng really care for the community? Your artcile probably reflects correctly on MCA, Gerakan and the Singapore PAP. But there are also many chinese who are philantropist, generous and do care for the community unlike those malays who seldom donate even to their own people. Again I should not say all malays are like that. There are good malays (minus Nazeri Kepala Tak Betoi, Mike Tyson, KJ, Kerismudin, Tengku Adnan, Eusoff Chin, Ahmad Fairuz), good chinese (minus LLS, LKY, and now OKT and CKC), and good indians (minus Sami Vellu and Lingam).

But of all races, the chinese (again the good ones) are known to vote for opposition to teach MCA, a proxy of UMNO, and are not easily bought by sewing machine, clean drain and rice.

I do not know who this Michael Chick is. I am not even sure whether he is actually a Mat Salleh. While some of his comments are true, they are also terribly wrong when it applies to ALL Malaysian Chinese. In a country, there are always good and bad guys. As such, to paint everyone with one brush is totally wrong. If Michael Chick is a Mat Salleh, I can tell him that white men are no better than yellow or black men. If you go and live in a Western country, you will find the white people there are just as bad, if not worse than Malaysians. So please do not call the kettle black.

The problem with Malaysia right now is that the ordinary folk is just too complacent for their own good. Although you guys are fighting among yourselves over who is benefitting from what from the current melee in the country, it is the UMNOputras, the MCA running dogs, the MIC arse lickers, etc who are benefitting from all these. Those who brandish krises in front of others are the skunks of the nation, not leaders. They just want to show off that they can threaten others without any fear. Those who admire such people are also skunks themselves for not being able to distinguish the rights and the wrongs. The ordinary Malays, Chinese, Indians, Kadazans, Ibans, Dayaks, etc must unite to fight all these skunks in the country and get rid of them for good.

I concur with Chink. I have lived in many countries that have a significant number of overseas Chinese and that has given me the opportunity to observe. Malaysian Chinese have a distinctly different character to the rest of Chinese diaspora. Most Confucian Chinese celebrate success and applaud the success of others. Malaysian Chinese, however, are envious of the success of others. Malaysian Chinese are whiners. Other Chinese just grit their teeth and get on with their lives. Chinese emerge in other societies not only as successful businessmen, but also as world class artist, technicians, scientists, actors, musicians, politicians, etc. Our Malaysian Chinese has brought itself notoriety by being con-artist, crooks and jail -birds. At one time in the 80's for example, 9 out of 10 white collar criminals languishing in Hong Kong jails were Malaysians. Why is this so, you might ask?
We are the product of our society. Malaysia is a country of permissiveness. We allow and overlook wrong-doing. We have picked up the bad habits and shred our moral standards in order to overcome the disadvantages inflicted on us. we have become experts in circumventing rules and law. We have lost our civility. Just look at the way we park our cars!! We have become cynical. We have created the ugly Malaysian Chinese.

Well there are two Malaysian Chinese Camps?

The primarily English (westernized) educated Chinese.
The primarily Chinese (chauvinist) educated Chinese.

The English educated were/are mostly Christians or Christian influenced and are generally not in the power base of MCA.

Michael Chick may be in one of these camps and is rubbing the other.

However Michael please take heart and be informed that the NEP was a Chinese (MCA) conspiracy to make the Malay helpless by encouraging them through the NEP to be greedy, dishonest and lazy. With corrupted, greedy and useless Malays running the Country and businesses, Malaysia would go broke and could no longer exist after 60 years without the Chinese!

In the meantime the Chinese educated would be sacrificed as cannon fodders and generally exist in the Country’s grey economy. Cannon fodders are generally shell shocked and insensitive and dense!

When the time is ripe the English educated (many overseas Chinese Malaysians) and the Chinese grey economic sector would be returned as white knights! After all Malaysia was the 17th Vassal State of China!

So Michael takes heart and be patience, you only need to wait another 16 years!
In the meantime give those Chinese educated hell and encourage the NEP!

but allow me MC, to juxtapose some reality to the sarcasm.

I'm the 13th generation in my family to have reside in and around M'sia/S'pore, and the Spice Islands namely Borneo/Kalimantan was where my forebears set root initially. Through the generations, the family has accomplished many first, each in their own time. Won't bore you further details of the family tree but let's take the tiger by the tail and look at the above hypothetical Chinese educated individual (obviously applies to all creeds).

In present day M'sia, if one is equipped with knowledge of Mandarin, there exist a vast world of knowledge and commerce to be explored. China today has never been more open as a polity, embracing the world as she moves forth making up for lost time. I can't speak for others but I for one identify with her as an emerging force but not for one moment would I 'kow-tow' to China or the West for that matter.

And let me elaborate before I lose my train of thought - for all the peril in M'sia, it is still a vibrant market place. It is not difficult for an enterprising fella' to amass a million ringgit at a relatively young age. Leave aside the grey economy or the heavily manipulated stock exchange of the 90's - with right effort and a tinge of luck, M'sia is still a wonderful place to grow fat and wealthy in quick time.

The above in essence explains the lack of Chinese faces showing up in protest of late. The Chinese urban dweller is above the curve and if not, tales of hardship has been ingrained into them for many generations that they are not predispose to hardship or hardwork. I may be wrong but it is that spirit, that optimism that continues to churn the wheels of commerce in M'sia. Without it, M'sia would be sliding back to worse effect.

It is a tall order to expect all to think alike. I vote opposition but what would it take for the rest to see things like I do. Many are not hungry enough, others are still comfortable while we all lament in the many forums of MT and others. I think I'm sufficiently astute but I can't fathom for sure if Penang falls or if there is enough votes to deny BN 2/3 majority.

Let me part by saying, never doubt the political awakening of the average M'sian's you see in the street who doesn't show it or say much but I'm optimistic he/she will do right this time round. Afterall, the next mandate is for the rehabilitation of M'sia on the whole. To persist with BN would be akin to borrowing forward with nothing in the kitty.

* To all able limb Chinese/Tamil educated M'sian's and please go explore the Mainland China and Mother India. Sink your teeth into her, make or bust and then remit money back into M'sia pronto ! In the realm of commerce, there is no faster growing market of affluence in both nations. It is time M'sian's leverage on our comparitive advantage in a purposeful manner. Getting that conduit establish would only benefit more M'sian's for the future.

I am new to MalaysiaToday and read a couple of articles written by this MC guy. The more I read his writting, the more I feel I am wasting time. I have no idea about his background.. Is he an Angmoh from Down Under?

Anyway, Chinese all over the world, including Chinese Malaysia are 'pramatic/practical' people.
Many Chinese parents in he past 20 years enroled their children to Chinese Elementary School because there is no other better choice. If Malaysia has Elementary schools where English is the 1st Language, and they can learn Chinese as Second Language (and learn Malay just for casual conversation), majority of these parents will send their kids to these school, instead of Chinese School.

Chinese Schools in Singapore were not killed by LKY.. it died not natural death.. because LKY provides an attractive alternative... English School where students can learn Chinese/Malay/Tamil as second language.

Then why are Western Industrialists and investors flocking to China to invest, and so heavily at that. The Chinese don't speak much English in China, not even their graduates. It's never too late, and it may help you to understand the Chinese a bit more, understand why they are what they are. MC: BTW, I speak fluent Malay, Chinese, Japanese and am currently starting on my Portuguese. Am even considering learning Sanskrit for Ancient Text examination for my other research. I have a friend who can fluently speak and write in over 16 languages. The more languages one has command over, the easier it is to communicate. How many of you actually know why a Malaysian Chinese greets each other not with "Hello" but "Have you eaten?" transalated from "Tze Bau Mah?" or "Sek Pau May?". In Hakka, it's "Sit Pau Mang?" or, as the Hokkiens would say, "Lu Ai Mai Chiak?" This form archaic of greeting stems from the old war-torn warring-states days (>2k years ago) when food was scarce. Thus, it was a necessity. You will never hear the Japanese say "Tabe-te Mas-taka?" as a greeting.

I had a Malay friend who once asked me if I know what `UMBC` stands for? Of course I gave him the answer for what it stands for. But he corrected me in jest by ,`Untung Malayu Bagi Cina`!!! Well, to a large extend, its very true till present moment. Projects,tenders,opportunities ,most of these first come into the hands of the Malays(UMNO link though), what ever the Chinese take is usually a fraction of what the former landed. The bulk of the monies go Ali`a bank account without hardly a sweat! The poor Chinese will have to work extra hard to get a `little` better of whats left for him. Some will go after monies even to the extend of neglecting their families. Of course you hav others who acquired thru ill gotten means. To label all Msian Chinese as stupids is simply too much!!! What about their immense contribution to the nation? What would Malaysia be if its a land devoid of Chinese presence? Maybe if they are given an equal rite and opportunity, their mentality would be different. If the oversea Chinese of other host nations can fit in nicely, I dont see why that cannot be apply here in Malaysia. There`s sure to be valid reasons somewhere. OK you see, in Malaysia, we have 2 types of Chinese Schools

1. Government's SRJK & SMJK Chinese Schools (represent 85% Chinese)
2. Non-Government's private schools CIHS (Chinese Independent High School) (represent 15% Chinese)

1. SMJK Chinese Schools must fight in the Form 6 exam-war to enter Universiti Malaysia (but usually fail to enter lah). SMJK Chinese Schools is actually the same as any National Schools except they have one more extra book to read, Chinese language, that's all, the rest of their school books are Malays & English.

2. CIHS students have to go out on the street to beg money (public donations) to maintain their own schools, they did this because the Malaysian government refused paying them even one cent. Currently there are only 4 CIHS in Kuala Lumpur and total 61 in the whole Malaysia. CIHS students studied 10 times more Chinese literatures, poetries, cultures, histories, etc than Chinese SMJK students. All their reading books are written in Chinese, exam in Chinese, speak, read, write, eat, sleep, all in Chinese. Speaking English among students in CIHS is frown upon. After they graduated, they self finance to Universities in Taiwan to further study, many stayed and worked in Taiwan and overseas.

The TWO are totally different.

90% of Malaysian Chinese entreprenuers are Chinese educated. Most English educated Malaysian chinese have no balls to start up a business. They would rather work for MNC and feel damn proud about it. And most English Educated Malaysian Chinese do not possess good people and interpersonal skills to survive the business world. Most of them are snobish and have no trust in people. You see most of them working in Alliance Banks and MNC companies.

MC: What in your opinion is the main cause of the hindrance to the "fitting in nicely" in Malaysia? My challenge to you: Stay a week or two outside KL. DO NOT check into a 5-Star resort, coz you won't get to see anything that way. Stay in any smaller town/ settlement. It will change your entire perception of the inter-racial relations in Malaysia. Better still, pick a "home-stay" program, preferably with a family of another color.

The Chinese have learned to survive in this country by circumventing/overcoming discriminations, barriers and what nots imposed by the Malay dominated government. I fully agree that the Chinese in other countries have fit in and integrated well in their adopted countries.

The only valid reason I can see(there may be other reasons as well) in this country is that here NEP, ketuanan, discrimiation, and racism(Malaysia and UMNO's guiding philosophy) are the main reasons why the Chinese cannot fit in "nicely", as you put it.

Perhaps, to avoid future body-snatching scenes, the Islamic Department should make it a point that the spouse, who is not converted, be officially informed on the converting spouse to Islam. Let the non-converting spouse/family, sign on the relevant form that they have been informed. This will save a lot of anguish and misunderstanding all round.

Part of maturing as an adult and progressing as a human being is to acknowledge our inadequacies and failings and DO something about it.
If the inadequacy is through our own awareness, better still for we know best when to start the correction and improvement.
But if it comes through being told by another, do not bash the other for our OWN failing but thank him his sincerity without which we remain blind to our own faults.
Michael Chick is being brutally honest - he has to be cruel to be kind.
He is not being arrogant about his skill of languages, he is encouraging us to realise the POWER of languages for it is a tool that is relevant in our everyday life which actually can be acquired easily through persistence.
Many of us do not have inborn skills the likes of Li Ka Shing, Lim Goh Tong... who can afford to not have any language skill - sorry correction, who can afford to not know english but then again they probably are very strong in their chinese language!

Please be a simple minded person and don't go and twist what people says. When people say Chinese are stupid, it means Chinese are stupid. What else does it mean? When your boss say that you are not performing, you are not performing.

I have been in business and deal with so many kind of business people. The most successful of them all are the most direct, honest and sincere. And they don't like to play with words. Only those lawyers, accountants, investment bankers, and corporate climbers likes to play with words and get themselves trap.

Enron, WorldCom, Merryl Lynch, Goldman Sachs and all these corporate people are just show horses. They don't manufacture, produce or create and yet make a lot of money. They just push and pull paper. Repackage words, modify certain sentences and made a lot of money doing it. In the end, these are the smart people who fail us all.

Wearing a suit and a tie really can fool a person like you. Mr. Crazy, I can basically sell you a piece of paper for 2million ringgit and you will buy it.

This is fun.

For all you know, Michael Chick is a 65 years old lady of mixed parentage. His father is a Indian lecturer (Thanabalan) and mother a chinese nurse (C.Y. Loh) and used to work in Telok Intan. Father returned to India and stayed while mother single-handedly brought her up.

Spent her younger days in an all-girl's school in Penang and fisrt boyfriend was a Chinese (Hakka). He eventually broke her heart and left her for someone else. She swore never to go out with any Chinese anymore.

She bacame a English teacher in small town down south (near Batu Pahat) and married an Indian government officer in the district office not long after. Reading books is one of her hobby and she has particular liking on literature and language. She speaks four languages at the age of 39.

Coincidentally, her husband also left for India due to a sick relative and stayed on. She was bitter and filed for divorce. Fortunately, there is no worry about offspring for they had none. A local Malay rich politician (kanpung level) was attracted to her look, (Chindian are usually quite a looker) and wished to take her as a second wife. She was contemplating the possibility but felt that she should do it for the wrong reason, least of all, not for the money. Applied for transfer to Telok Intan and stayed single till her retirement in 1997.

So, Michael Chick is not an "Ang Moh" nor is he a "him". He's a she and a Chinidan. So, there you are.

They would look at others' practice with disdain. But they failed to realise that the impression they give is pure ignorance. Michael Chick must be half chinese or might have some chinese ancestry in him. He stands apart from the rest of the typical Chinese Malaysians he see everyday. He is a minority and cannot adjust well into a divided malaysian society. I don't blame him, its very difficult if you are a tiny minority in malaysia, bcos everyone has a mentality to look out for their own, speak all different languages and also eat & dine separately. Go to segregated schools...then work among their own...and die among their own.

If UMNO let the Chinese dominate the economy, there is no way in hell that Malaysian economy will be ruin. But if you let UMNO runs the economy, then it is very likely, they will run it down the drain.

Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong is a successful economy. The overseas chinese thrives on risk and open economy. But sadly the Malays don't see it. It is a pity becoming a Malay.

Michael Chick is showcasing the helplessness of Malaysian Chinese by cursing his own kind. Yes, without hope one can only grab straws. nonetheless he did highlight some of the ugly Chinese behaviors which is excellent because the "lower rung" Chinese needs a kick in the butt to remind themselves of who they actually are.

But for Michael's solace, the Chinese whom are part North East Asians are the only folks other than Western Europeans that achieved the standard of living dreamed by the rest of the world. The envious masses had nothing to compete with but threats of violence and subjugation.

i will agree with the only one thing right in this article which is that the Malaysian Chinese are not making enough effort to bring change to the stinking gov. Instead most Malaysian Chinese would just sit back and let other people take the risk to bring a change for the better while scared shitless to endanger their own way of life.
But then there are still so many things which are wrong with the article.
1) Speaking exceptional English is not a requirement for business. English is an international language but in the end, what is communicated and understood is the most important. I can use all the wrong tenses, make grammatical errors but if the correct message gets across, wouldn't that be good enough? Do you even know the business world? Short clear messages are best be it in emails, letters or even your CV. Write long winding flowery mails and people take you as a waste of time.
Also, do you seriously think that the Chinese should dump out their own language just to pick up English? I would attribute that to the laziness of the English and Americans who would be too dumb, stupid and lazy to learn other languages to better communicate with people from other countries so you dictate that others should learn your language instead. When they speak it poorly (what do you expect? It is not their native language) you laugh at them? This would be the mightier than thou intellect. Call it boasting but I can speak in English, Malay, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien and Japanese (although not all are perfect) but what can you speak?

2) Then there is the bashing of Chinese wanting to protect their Chinese schools. What is wrong with that? Have you seen the national schools? Do you know what type of quality they have?
If the students cant pass an exam, make it easier. Is that what you want your child to study in? If the Chinese would like their children to learn in a Chinese school, tell me what is wrong with that? Should they be forced to go into English school so that you are happy? If they are all fluent in English, then you do not need to learn Chinese to speak with them so that makes your lazy ass happy?
Are you still ignorant about the fact that there are so many people in the world who are starting to learn Chinese as a 2nd or 3rd language? If these people go to China and speak broken chinese, should they be laughed upon and called stupid?

3) What is wrong with that formula in life?
Do you not get an education (well, with that article, i may think so)? Do you not get a job (or are you just leeching over other people)? Do you not get married (not wanted)? Do you not have children (cant have any)? Do you not die (are you immortal)?
Correct me if I am wrong but billions of people in this world live such a life. So are you saying that billions of people in this world are stupid for living such a life?

4) The Chinese work hard to provide for their family and protect their way of life and that is wrong because...? I agree that it is selfish to be only thinking of themselves and not participate in the rallies or picketing or anything like that but then it is also understandable why the Chinese act in such a way.
Firstly, how did they get to where they are? The things that they possess were not handed to them for free. They worked hard and fought hard for it so risking it all for change is something frightening. An example would be something like the stock market. You have worked hard all through your life to amass your life savings. How would you feel if you are to throw all of that into one stock which you have no idea if it will turn out for the better or not?
Another thing is that the change will not only affect themselves but their family as well. I do not fault them for not cry for change if they are afraid that the change will have an adverse affect on their children. If they are quiet and live as they always did then i have nothing to say to that. If they bitch and complain about having a crappy government and yet still vote for them, then I would agree with you that they are stupid asses.

5) And what is wrong with loving food? The French love food, the Mexican have their great burritos, the Italians have their pasta. So what do you have against the Chinese loving food? It is a way of life. Some people live to eat, some eat to live. Are you going to dictate that? Is it considered stupid to love food? If that is so then you are also calling all chefs stupid as well for creating different kinds of food.

So in the end, I find your arguments lame and totally off topic. Lambasting all Malaysian Chinese high and dry but without any substance at all. I now truly believe that genuine stupid people find intelligent people stupid for having a different mind set.

The Triads and Gangsters thrive alongside the "Ah Longs" to provide a necessary need for society. They keep the economy moving. They keep the citizens happy. They keep your husbands happy. They supply your husbands with ample "rental" women for pleasure after your daily work of pressure. They even sell you cheap DVD's and VCD's which are way overpriced in stores. Where else can you find Chua Soi Lek's escapades?
"Release stress-mah..." Chew Mei Fun said that it's perfectly OK for men to have mistresses, "...as long as you tell your wife about it.". Strangely, she also said that if you don't vote for her MCA party, May 13 will happen again. Whatever the hell that means.....

"Ah Longs", are an important economic tool. They provide you with alternative financing. They fill in the void where banks and other monetary institutions have failed. Their slightly higher than usual interest rates are justified, as they assume more risks. When they visit your homes to collect their dues, they are only trying to collect on what's owing to them. You borrowed, now, they collect. They are only "Cari Makan".

There is no corruption in Malaysia. The government tells you so. "Looks like corruption, sounds like corruption, but it is NOT corruption". If you try to prove otherwise, you face ISA.

Working 25 hours a day like a mongrel is necessary. Again, when the Chinese economy takes over the world, you will understand. The Chinese are selfless. They work tirelessly, sacrificing the little precious time with their children for the few extra dollars. This trait must be inculcated into the younger generation. The "God of Money" guarantees success. Thus, the Chinese can afford to employ foreign maids. Others, who cannot afford to, are just jealous. For those of you who cannot afford one, work harder, or too bad. Children brought up by Foreign Maids are only a temporary set-back. The few minutes the parents spend with their children are sufficient for transfer of the many good values passed down for generations. Who are you to tell them otherwise?

The "Wa Lai Toi" schedule helps the Chinese stay organized. It helps them "release tension" from the stress they face at work. Crying and sobbing at fictitious characters over their fictitious problems helps one relieve stress. It makes their own problems seem little and mild as when compared to the ones on the tube. Who are you to tell them to give it up? ASTRO !! Give the Chinese more Chinese channels. They want 500 channels of 24 hours drama serials.

Soothsayers and "bomohs" help solve problems where Western Medicine fails. Which Western trained Doctor can exorcise demons? Soothsayers of ALL races rape and molest women and children. This is not a Chinese problem. "This is not my Problem", "Such things won't happen to me or my family." "It's the other people who do it" The Chinese can always take their hard-earned money to any country they wish. Everyone will accept them because they speak Chinese. Others will need to learn it to, or else, the Chinese will not talk to them. If others cannot understand Manglish, too bad. After all, the Americans and the Japanese and the Koreans all are learning Chinese. So should the rest of the 4 billion people in the world. If not, they are Stupid. Too Bad.

New Chinese formula for life for the whole world to follow:
a) Everybody goes to school (but must learn Chinese)
b) Everybody gets a job (the Chinese don't like beggars)
c) Most get Married (unless you are gay)
d) Some have 2.3 children (more, if you are as wealthy as the Chinese)
e) Save enough to retire
f) Death is inevitable.

Food is the Malaysian Chinese way of life. The Chinese have worked hard for it. They deserve to reward themselves in any way they see fit. Despite knowing many of their relatives, who are suffering from coronary diseases and are either obese, have high-cholesterol, high-blood pressure or strange diseases, it will not happen to the overeating Chinese. After all, the Chinese have worked hard for their money. Who are you to tell them otherwise?

UMNO people are just jealous. UMNO is only Fat and Rich because the Chinese pay them enough to "buy" these government contracts. Without the Chinese, the government is nothing. The Chinese deserve to make this money. What is a little "Bribery"? It helps enrich the Chinese. It must be accepted.

Malaysian Chinese are indeed, conclusively, NOT STUPID...Everybody else is stupid. The Chinese are incapable of stupidity.

And any writers who try to tell the Chinese otherwise, are simply delusional, not knowing how to see it the "Chinese" way. He or she therefore, must be a bloody foreigner with a hot-rod poked up his ass.

Mr Chick obviously wrote this article to provoke a reaction. Ideally, it should provoke some soul-searching. Perhaps, he cut too close to the bone and so the reactions are mainly, well, reactionary.

Let me tell you, there are Chinese Malaysians like that and we see them everyday even if we don't see them in ourselves. I personally have a friend who calls me NGO because I care about what is happening in this country. He has never voted and won't even entertain the idea because he thinks that it is a waste of time. He thinks the ISA is a good thing because he fears the Islamist bogeyman. He's just one. I have lots of other friends like that. Why are they my friends? Because apart from that, they are honest, decent people whom I have known for decades and friendships are hard enough to come by. Besides, where there's life, there's always hope that they will see the light one day.

As for what Mr Chick says about the majority of students from Chinese kebangsaan schools, I have to agree with him. My children's BM tutor told me the other day that the new form one students in his school who come from Chinese schools are a serious problem. They speak no BM and of course, no English. They refuse to try and learn. They won't listen to a word the teacher says. The headmaster thought they would respond better to a Chinese teacher, and assigned one to their class but he/she had even less success.

The BM tutor said that only a handful of these Chinese school students ever complete secondary school. The rest of them eventually drop out by the time they are in form 3. What happens to them after that is anybody's guess.

So all you staunch defenders of the Chinese school system, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

However, the "future scenario" which Malaysia faces today is not a very comforting one with petroleum running out in 2011 and all that. (15) At least 10 Chinese owned bus companies (throughout Malaysia in the past 40 years) had to be sold to MARA or other Malay transport companies due to rejection by Malay authorities to Chinese applications for bus routes and rejection for their applications for new buses.

(16) Two Chinese taxi drivers were barred from driving in Johor Larkin bus station. There are about 30 taxi drivers and three were Chinese in Oct. 2004. Spoiling taxi club properties was the reason given.

(17) 0 non-Malays are allowed to get shop lots in the new Muar bus station (Nov. 2004).

(23) While a Chinese parent with RM1000 salary (monthly) cannot get school textbook loan, a Malay parent with RM2000 salary is eligible.

(24) All 10 public university vice chancellors are Malays.

(25) 5% of the government universities' lecturers are of non-Malay origins. This percentage has been reduced from about 70% in 1965 to only 5% in 2004.

(26) Only 5% has been given to non-Malays for government scholarships in over 40
years.

(27) 0 Chinese or Indians were sent to Japan and Korea under the "Look East Policy."

(36) 600,000 Chinese and Indian Malaysians with red IC were rejected repeatedly when applying for citizenship in the past 40 years. Perhaps 60% of them had already passed away due to old age. This shows racism, based on how easily Indonesians got their citizenships compared with the Chinese and Indians.

Throughout the history of China we find much that proves the above. But what ALL of us know, is that if we work hard enough to minimize the limitations, then we stand a much better chance than if we did not. Just like you and I weren't born with a "silver spoon in the mouth" as you said, we should move towards the betterment of ourselves so that NO ONE can say that we are "Not good enough".

MC: Now I'm referring to your kids. Let's say that they are straight "A" students. And they cannot get into the local Universities because of the quota. Then what options do you have?

b) apply for scholarship abroad

On the issue of education, retaining and maintaining Chinese schools as the last political bastion of the Chinese is probably the smartest thing that the community leaders collectively do since independence.

It is as if they could predict that the force would be with China this century and that many of us would be able to exploit the economical opportunities offered with the swiftest economic expansion the world had ever known.

Whilst English will remain the "global" language of choice for business, Mandarin will become the next language of preference, purely because Chinese global trading tho localised as a nation is singly significant .. and check out UN reports that state that a basic vibrant econoomy of any country is directly proportional to a Chinese population presence ..

I find the article provocative to say the least and I speak for myself (as a Chinese), my family (who are Chinese, predominantly) and our contributions to this country.

By the way, which part of what I said gave you that impression ? or did what I said strike a nerve somewhere ? and if it did, my unreserved apologies to you (and whoever else that feels the same) whatever your issue is.

I got problem with Mata-Mata, no problem. Just one payment, settle everything. So efficient. We Chinese, we know how to be efficient one-leh. Why you waste time lah, go University, work like a dog, follow orders, pay taxes some more.

Just because there are a few Malaysian Chinese who have grown rich has masked the plight of 90% of the common Chinese rakyat who are struggling for a living. Everywhere you see Chinese youths peddling pirated dvd/cd/vcd for a pittance and risking arrests and extortion by "law enforcement officers".
Some resort to selling narcotics and other banned substances and risks the death penalty.
Only UMNO portrays the Chinese as being rich and well off and rallies Malays to their support whilst making tonnes of monies through government handouts/contracts and collaborations with their M/Gerakan cronies. Most UMNO politicians uses Chinese businessmen as fronts and then at the back rails againgst Chinese dominance of the economy.

You are right, the Chinese had been led by the nose through all these years. They have not learned from history, the reason they have to leave their homeland for greener pastures. And now they are been led by Chinese leaders in Malaysia who enriched themselves by selling out their own Chinese compatriots, working in cahoots with their MAlay UMNO counterparts to hoodwink Chinese, Malays and INdians. What is more distressing is that while all these are going on the rest of the world marches on as witnessed by Vietnam, Thailand, and even now INdonesia.

Very soon Malaysia will have to export young girls overseas as maids, servants, labourers to countries who are engaged in this practice now.

If you can wake the Chinese up----We will be eternally grateful

Exactly .. simply said .. my family history takes affront to what was written .. my response is for MC, not others. You could then reversely argue that what was written was not meant for people like me, neither my family.

Then, as they say, oil & water cannot mix .. but are we "different" Chinese really that different ? .. I can positively say that what has been written in the posted comments about the "corrupt" Chinese is to a T, non-existence in my family's lives ..

Whilst to each his/her own, we have "paid the price for our freedom" rather "cleanly" .. the 1st generation eldest sibling undertook debt (and I am not talking about modern times) to complete LAW in London, came back and spent 20 years paying it back .. and whilst in London (being from a poor family) survived at times (during winter) on bread and tap water .. just to drive home the point why I take offence to MC and his writing ..

And to all who would present provocative writings .. you must be prepared to accept responses howsoever they will come from inadvertent slights of multi-dimensional aspects of lives of different people and audiences of the domain.

And please "qualify" your writings if you are going to do further writings regarding the Malays and Indians .. I know many who share the same experience as my family ..

Yeoh Tiong Lay (YTL), the late Lim Goh Tong (Genting), Lee Shin Cheng (IOI), Li Ka-shing (Cheung Kong) ... they are educated in Chinese schools too!

That's a specious argument. Language and culture are first learnt in the home. That's where our first socialisation takes place. We learn how to be Chinese, or Malay or Indian from our parents, our grandparents, extended family etc, when we celebrate, mourn, laugh, play, cry, tell stories, eat, dress and more.

The second level of socialisation takes place in school. We learn what it is to live in a multiethnic society. We learn how to respect people who come from different backgrounds. Ideally, we should learn how to celebrate the difference.

If we send our children to homogeneous schools, it means two things. One, we're incapable of giving our own children a strong sense of who they are and we need institutions to do that. Two, we're preventing our children from appreciating the benefits of multiculturalism.

And, Miwaki, language is just a means of communication-lah. The Chinese language may be 5000 years old but speaking it doesn't automatically make you wise. Just as speakihg Aramaic - an equally ancient but dead language - doesn't automatically make you Christ-like.

Chinese should learn from the rich tycoons such as Loh Boon Siew, Lim Goh Tong, etc.

Malays are most stupid of all for they spent government's money to study overseas.

Indians are not so stupid, they did not spend so much money to study overseas.

Chinese spending money study English = Stupid

MC: I'm actually glad that Che was writing the way he did. It helps illustrate so clearly what I've been hoping to say to all of you all through this article and my responses. Although I did not collaborate with him for the above "pissing-contest", he kinda served his purpose as the necessary "Judas Iscariot". Just hope someone who knows this Che person would talk to him, and illuminate him a little. He has posted his e-mail openly. Those of you who are into a more personal-level type counselling, please help him. He looks like he really needs it. Urgently.

It has been said that language is a very clumsy tool - even in skilled hands, it is only ever approximate.
Most of us are not especially skilful and just muddle along struggling with our problem of expression.
Generally it's "I can understand you but can you understand me or vice-versa."
I wonder whether those who 'speak' with their hands have such problems smilies/cheesy.gif

My experience : 2 parties can still misunderstand each other no matter how fluent both parties are in their one language of communication. (A mars-venus scenario?)

It's best we agree to disagree "udder wais" how to kiss and make up !

MC: Yes, you seem to claim to know the difference, and I'm willing to learn, if you can be so kind as to teach. As I understand it, Malaysian refers to a Nationality, while Chinese refers to an ethnicity. Thus, placing either one before the other has no bearing on it meaning, as they are mutually exclusive. Just like how the African American, or "Singaporean Chinese" are listed. You'd seldom hear someone mention "Chinese Singaporean", if ever at all. What's your wise words, uncle?
