Putting the ball back in the sultan's court

Barring any attempts of forced entry by Zambry and the BN excos into the state assembly house, and any potential ruckus or situation that may thwart the emergency sitting, Nizar will quite easily be given the vote of confidence as MB.

By Deborah Loh, The Nut Graph

THE political drama in Perak, which has escalated from one height to another, is set to spike tomorrow with an emergency state assembly sitting to vote on two motions related to the state's constitutional crisis.

However, even if the emergency sitting is successful, it would not immediately solve the impasse. It would, in fact, be the latest in a series of planned steps by the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to turn the matter back to Perak's ruler, Sultan Azlan Shah, in the hopes of forcing a snap poll.

The two motions expected at the emergency sitting are to reaffirm support for the PR's Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as Perak menteri besar, and to seek dissolution of the state assembly.

Speaker V Sivakumar, the DAP assemblyperson for Tronoh, invoked Standing Orders to call for the emergency sitting. As the all-powerful speaker of the state assembly, he is the PR's trump card in the state's political impasse despite the Barisan Nasional (BN) having taken over the state government.

Sivakumar has already flexed his muscles by suspending the BN's Menteri Besar Datuk Zambry Abdul Kadir and his six executive councillors. They will not be allowed to enter the assembly for the emergency sitting. Neither will the three independents who left the PR to support the BN be allowed into the state assembly, as Sivakumar deems their resignations from their state seats effective.

With 10 representatives on the BN's side out, the numbers in the 59-seat state assembly would be in the PR's favour at 27 to 21. The PR's 28th seat is Sivakumar's, who, as speaker, cannot vote.

The Sultan of Perak should appear on TV to give the Perakians an explanation for his decision on the MB. There should be a Sultan-rakyat relation to clear the air. Or have the BN govt. really kidnap the Sultan and put him in the same room with Bala, Helmi & the three frogs ?

Najis and his bunch of Perak BN's clowns can so easily solve the current political crisis by just throwing the ball back to the rakyat's court. If the claims by Najis and Zambry that Perakians wanted a BN Govt, then why are the two so afraid to let Perakians decide their Govt? Right now, BN is not governing the State but busy thwarting every political moves initiated by PR. The slews of counter court action and the silly move to seek the advice of a Queen's counsel are just a waste of time and the people's money.

If you are reading this, please make sure another warning is given to all PR State governments that they better move to ensure the right Speaker is in place and that the State legislation is such that none of these BN goons can try their BS tactics. While the uncorruptible Speaker is in place, then the PR government will always have the upper hand. Also ensure the Speaker is well protected with body guards.

Your highness Sultan Of Perak. Please spare the state and Perakians the agony. Dissolve the state assembly and call for a snap election. Goes back to the people for them to exercise the true democracy and election the representatives they want. Let them choose their own government.

All that the PR government ask is to dissolve the Perak State Assembly and have a snap election for the citizens of Perak to elect the government they want. They are not usurping or clinging on to power. They are merely following the democratic process. The reverse is true for the BN Government.

I don't know whether BN and the Sultan of Perak realise the folly of these high-handed actions including of the issue of an unsigned circular to close the state assembly building and the locking of the state assembly building. It is just shameful the extent people can go to cling on to power.

Years from now, all right thinking Malaysians will read in History the horrors and desperation of an unpopular BN Government in clinging to power despite the rakyat's rejection of their rule. History will also show that the Sultan of Perak inspite of his learned knowledge in law has done nothing to stop a high-handed undemocratic process and has a hand in this shameful episode in Perak's democracy process.

Bear this in mind - Najib and the Sultan of Perak! History will judge your actions today!

Why is the former CJ, the big Raja and the young Raja interpretation
of the law ? Both are learned and but are now quiet? UMNO must have
something on them to be so QUIET.

he silence from the Silver palace is so deafening. Why so silent?! The only obvious answer is that it is increasingly becoming very clear that, every which way you turn, Rule of Law must prevail and democracy rules. The People's mandate must be respected. Najib and the silver Sultan must realise that you cannot rule a state by daylight robbery. You have allowed robbers and evil doers control Perak and made the biggest political mess in Malaysian history. And all this is just to satisfy Najib's gila pangkat and his desperation to cling to power in Perak. One would expect a learned man, a former CJ at that, to have the wisdom to end the agony of people of Perak. But no. He keeps silent. Perakians, we hope you don't mudah lupa. In your time of crisis, remember who struggled to protect Perak's Constitution, to rule by law and protect your democratic rights. One thing is clear, it is NOT your sultan, who is supposed to be your protector, defending you. He chose instead to be silent... Remember this to your children's children, and down your generations.
