I will attend assembly, says Zambry PDF Print

By Shannon Teoh, The Malaysian Insider

In yet another twist to the Perak political crisis, it is Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir’s turn to defy “orders”. He said he will defy Speaker V Sivakumar’s suspension order and attend the next assembly sitting.

Calling the hearing held before the state assembly’s rights and privileges committee a “kangaroo court”, he maintained that Sivakumar had no jurisdiction to suspend him unilaterally for something which happened outside the assembly.

“He suspended me under Section 72 of the Standing Orders but it says you must bring your report and recommendation to the assembly for it to decide,” he said.

“The appointment is not by the Speaker but by the Sultan. This is an implied challenge to the powers of the Sultan,” Zambry said in an exclusive interview with The Malaysian Insider this afternoon.

Two days ago, Sivakumar, as chairman of the rights and privileges committee, decided that Zambry and his six exco members would be suspended from attending the assembly for 18 and 12 months respectively for contempt of the assembly after they accepted their “unconstitutional” appointments and were sworn into office.

The move added yet another complication to the constitutional crisis that has gripped the Silver State after Barisan Nasional (BN) initiated a power grab on Feb 5.

If the decision is upheld, then Pakatan Rakyat (PR) could ostensibly win a confidence vote in the assembly as BN would be down to 21 members which would lose out to PR’s 28 even if the three “independent” candidates were allowed to attend to cast their support behind BN.

“I will attend the assembly, that is quite clear, and I will exhaust all legal avenues,” he declared, adding that he was still consulting his legal advisors.

Zambry also said that Sivakumar had behaved unfairly during the inquiry.

Displaying the letter sent by Sivakumar and his own affidavit that he prepared, he said that the claim by the Speaker that he “had not provided any explanation for his actions which was in contempt of the assembly” was a “lie of the most serious nature committed by the Speaker”.

“He just asked me to answer the charge with a yes or no. But I had prepared preliminary objections against the charge. It was like a kangaroo court,” he said.

The Pangkor assemblyman said that while some had advised him not to pay heed to the Speaker’s summon since BN was now the legitimate government, he had decided to present himself out of “respect to the institution” of the Speaker.

But he said that Sivakumar, who is DAP’s assemblyman for Tronoh, had acted “unethically”.

Tasting your own medicine.
- the Speaker that he “had not provided any explanation for his actions which was in contempt of the assembly”
- behaved unfairly during the inquiry
- a kangaroo court
- “respect to the institution”
- had acted “unethically”
Zambry, you voiced like an opposition, look like an innocent victim, smell like a pig shit.

Zambry has nothing to lose. He so happens to be there and was elected by the Sultan. Not the rakyat. He has no dignity, no respect from the rakyat, and not a single vote. He can do what he wants. Let him have a few more happy days before he's thrown out.

Now Zambry has no right to claim the MBship as BN only has 21 seats opposed to PR's 28. Now that he sees himself on the losing end, this disdaining mamak is trying to appoint himself as an official spokesmen for the Sultan, joining the hypocritical ranks of Khairy, Khir Toyo, Zahid, Mudyiddin, Bodowi, Hishammudin, Botak Hamid, Rafidah Aziz, Sabaruddin Chik, Zanusi Junid and Muhd2 Taib.

How shameless are these creatures when they have suddenly lost all their principles in making U-turns about professing their loyalty to the Sultans. Where were all these hypocrites when Dr M screwed the Malaysian royalties big time in 1993.

YB Sivakumar,

Pls investigate the action taken by the MB to appoint special officers with EXCO powers and benefits and see if it is abuse of power and misuse of funds. If not provided for in the Perak state constitution, set up new charges against the Zambry fellow and the excos as well as their special officers in order to stale mate them.

Cheers!

I think this is just a diversionary tactic. He's going to ask the Sultan to convene an assembly session in another location, get the assemblymen to appoint the new speaker, and then the police will be used to boot the speaker out of the house. The question of legality does not arise. UMNO WILL MAKE IT LEGAL.

NEWSBREAK

Here's a dramatic twist to the Perak Conundrum…

HRH SULTAN AZLAN SHAH DID NOT HAVE A CHOICE – IT WAS EITHER ACCEPT NAJIB OR LOSE THE THRONE OF PERAK IN A FEW MONTHS.
There was controversy when Azlan was elected as Raja Muda (Crown Regent) because his mother is a commoner and was therefore considered an outsider.(FACT) In fact it is believed that he lived outside the royal community when he was growing up.
It is now understood that hrh Sultan Azlan Shah was put to the throne by Mahathir since there were claims for the throne of Perak from the descendants of Sultan Idris, uncle of Sultan Azlan. Azlan is in other words not fully of royal blood since his mother was but a mere commoner.(FACT)
Further his wife, mother to Raja Nazrin, is a well known commoner (a former teacher at the Raja Perempuan School, Ipoh) and so by being half diluted by commoner's blood himself, his son Raja Nazrin is three-quarters diluted again.
The fact we're facing now is that Nazrin faces the risk of not being able to ascend to the state throne.. (FACT) The inside story is that Najib held a gun (figuratively speaking, that is) to hrh Sultan Azlan Shah's head, saying, "either you follow what I say or I swear on the Quran that Raja Nazrin will never be the next monarch."
There is also the case of the recent murder of the princess that will likely implicate the royal household not to mention the sales of the datukship titles. Let us be clear that the Sultan had no choice – he was indeed blackmailed.

There was controversy when Azlan was made sultan and now if he chooses Pakatan's call for dissolution, his son Nazrin, will be the sacrificial lamb, facing the humiliation of losing the throne altogether. It will then be said that Nazrin is not 'Keramat' pure royal blood. And don't forget that UMNO is already incensed with Nazrin whom they widely regard as a 'big mouth' for talking about justice and the rule of law.
We understand that all these had come from within the palace grounds.

Siva should arrange for the hypocrites to be stopped from entering the assembly and if they refuse to behave themselves and become aggressive, then they should be promptly apprehended for unruly behaviour.

And if it does happen that they refuse to observe decorum and refuse to behave like responsible adults, then make absolutely sure that the entire episode is video-taped from several angles and posted all over the blogs and You Tube so that the whole world can see how so-called "appointed-not-voted" Malaysian officials behave.

Should they misbehave, the photographing and taping of their bad behaviour will be a clear expose on the caliber of such people and will reveal to the world what we are dealing with. It will also show the entire nation what they are confronted with.

On the other hand, they might want to be on the lookout for fake PKR reps roughing up people, especially cameramen from the press, which they (the demons, that is), can photograph as "evidence" which they will publish in the newspapers and show on television to "prove" that PKR is unworthy.
