By Liew Chin Tong in The Malaysian Insider

Member of Parliament for Bukit Bendera, Penang and member of DAP Central Executive Committee

PENANG, Feb 1 - Perhaps it is time for the Perak Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to seek the Sultan’s consent to dissolve the Perak State Assembly. If granted, I am confident that Pakatan Rakyat will win. A Pakatan victory will spell the end of Umno/Barisan Nasional.

By all accounts it looks like the two Parti KeADILan Rakyat Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Radzi and his Changkat Jering colleague Osman Jailu, who have been reported “missing”, are confirmed crossing over to Barisan Nasional.

They are “missing” ala P.I. Bala-style for a reason. They won’t surface until BN gathers enough numbers to topple the PR government at once.

According to the grapevine, at least one state assemblyperson from DAP is scheduled to meet MCA President Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat tonight to seal a deal that will bring down the nascent PAS, DAP and PKR joint state government.

There is no time to lose.

And, there is nothing to lose for Pakatan to return to the people for a fresh mandate.

Unlike Umno, PR parties have not been tied down by vested interests. Apart from State Executive Councilors losing the right to use their official cars, almost no one loses anything if PR fails to wrest back the state in an election.

But if PR wins the election, Umno/Barisan Nasional will collapse soon after. Just imagine the impact of hundreds of Pematang Pauh and Kuala Terengganu combined.

I am confident that with a better slate of candidates and a well planned campaign, Pakatan Rakyat will win comfortably. Non-Malay support for PR in general has increased after March 8th while Kuala Terengganu shows that it is possible for Pakatan to win Malay support.

To hold election now is good for PR as Umno is fractious and more interested in its own party election than anything else.

There is a caveat here. The Sultan may reject the request for dissolution. But being the reputably most enlightened House in country, His Royal Highness would have to take into consideration his own place in history when he decides. Either way, it will have far reaching consequences for his state, and the nation.

With a request to dissolve the State Assembly, the buck stops at the Sultan’s court, not Pakatan’s. That’s sufficed in a crisis situation as we have already done our part to attempt to return to the people.

The Sultan should understand that the BN govt has been treating the Pakatan state govt as a foreign entity. If BN wants to make life difficult for the people let them decide once and for all which coalition should rule Perak. The sultan should not refuse but submit to the will of the people for fresh polls.

Agree with the writer. I find this could be the most appropriate time to call the snap election. It's no point hanging on the edge threaten by unethical assemblymen and Umno's money power.
Once and for all, make this choice. I'm sure people are with PR right now.

Dear Perak and Malaysian, are you happy paying Toll, paying for the AP, paying expensive petrol, (our petrol is so expensive, even Thailand sell cheaper petrol, and they are not even a net exporting petrol country like malaysia.) Are you happy our politicians, Umno,BN they are very rich, so rich, they all retire very rich, not retire even richer, and they are so corrupt, they and the cronies, are the only malaysian happy. so, Malaysian, Perak, this is the time, this is the time, we have a alternative, option, to have a strong opposition, and we need 2 party system, democracy, lets give the Pakatan rakyat a chance to govern. The BN Umno is trying to stop our voters mandate, they are doing everything to spoil our mandate. We all must vote wisely, we use our vote peacefull, like Pematang Pauh, like the KT, we must work for the rakyat. we need change, so that we have better life, not the one only corrupt politician that take all our $....Please, we must have pakatan rakyat.

Dear Perak Chief Minister, It's time for you to decide whether to dissolve the state assembly or not. Get the opinoin from the public and their stand on this issue by having a snap election in Perak, for sure Pakatan Rakyat will win more seats then before and be a strong party.

So Najib can forget about twisting His Mejesty's arms !--- Knowing the esteemed Sultan's priorities for a prosperous and free State of Perak. History is in the Sultans hands. UMNO can forget about holding the His Highness at ransom!

UMNO falls in their own trap. UMNO will not be comfortable to engage Anwar in any elections. Just imagine, the huge and unthinkable crowd listening to his fiery speech, in particular, will surely sent shivers in UMNO's spine. I don't believe they anticipated such elections were to take place very soon after their demise in Permatang Pauh and KT.

A Snap election will nail the Barisan Najis.

We will see more winning by PR, this will also help create repercussions for any other by election that BN will go down on its knees.

Then confuseus.. tell us why is it that PR will lose if it is 2 kali 5 (as good or as bad) as BN?

Isn't that unfair?

Why can't BN lose if PR is perceived as 2 kali 5 as BN?

Hi saga,
long time no hear.
The reason is very simple.
PR won last 2 by E becos people hated BN.
Now, BN will win next 2 becos people are hating PR.

Remember, our great RPK said ... it is the hate factor that matters!!!

But what if people are still also hating BN now?
So what if people hate BN more than they hate PR?

You are jumping to conclusions....

Yes, the hate factor matters probably...

No need to hang on to razor thin majority of 1 or 2 assemblymen. Menteri besar must decide to go to the people and seek a fresh mandate to stop all this trouble . And do not forget to make assurances from candidates before they contest. Make then sign declarations for compulsory resignation if they jump ship after becoming assemblymen.
