WHEN the Home Ministry forbids a non-Muslim group from saying "Allah", then attempts to prevent it from publishing in Malay, the government is imposing more than a ban.

In both instances, the Barisan Nasional (BN)-led government is forcefully applying exclusivity for both the pre-Islamic name for the Almighty and the national language. The BN does not seem to see that more inclusive use of "Allah" and the national language are actually opportunities to unite Malaysians.

Divisive fear

What strikes me the most about the government's insistence on restricting the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims is sharp, irrational fear.

Fear that Malay-Muslims in Malaysia may lose their faith and flock instead to other faiths that also have the same name for the Almighty. Fear that perchance, the state has one less area where it can control Malay-Muslim thought and experience about diversity and similarities in different cultures and faiths in Malaysia.

Looks like the home ministry operates from the toilet end and only spits out shit each time it comes out with a new policy. More appropriate it should be called the Home Jesters Ministry.

The home ministry's staff comprises mostly of illerates who bought their paper qualifications in the back streets. These people know next to nothing about Islamic religion, let alone its doctrine, they could not diffentiate between black colour from white, ironically they have a common obsession: MONEY!MONEY!MONEY!!!!

Why we need to promote Bahasa Kebangsaaan (Bahasa Malaysia) if it is creating danger and conflict among Malaysians?

The only one language that unite all East Malaysians are Malay. If we don't use Bahasa Malaysia in East Malaysia then turmoil might be happened between them. The Easterners Malaysians have more then 30 languages with over 50 sub-languages (dialects) at least.

This stupid Hamid Albarua don't see non Christians spiritual needs. He only interested to speed reaching the make those kafir as 'saudara baru'! Is it some kinds of monopoly marketing?

I am getting this sense that the government will distort just about anything in whatever ways as long as the end results serve the purpose of keeping them in power. It is worrisome how freakish the sum total of all these reality-bending propaganda may become one day. Another reason why we should consider more capable parties to govern this country.

I think the word Allah come from ancient Aramaic language. Modern Arabic and Hebrew actually evolve from ancient Aramaic, just like modern Italian, French and Spanish evolve from ancient Latin. So, the word Allah does not belong Muslims exclusively, period.

"I love Allah, I love God", both the same! It's up to me to choose which word I want to use. So when Syed Hamid don't want me to love Allah, it mean he don't want me to love God. How dare him!

Jacqueline, Jacqueline, for Allah’s sake
Do not question the story we are trying to bake
Whereas the faith of some Arabs may be secure
Of UMNO's believers' faith we are somewhat unsure

The objective of Home Minstry is to protect the faithfull’s mind
To keep them all dozily obedient, docile and, hopefully, blind
The Almighty’s name is an UMNO controlled monopoly
Whoever wishes to abuse it requires an official AP

My dear, Jacqueline, Syria is Syria
What has that gotta do with our bolehsia
We have the power to compel you whatever to do
Questioning our prerogative is definitely a taboo

We are entitled to dictate how you should behave
Because we are your masters, you are our slaves
When we dictate that we own “Allah” you’d better obey
Contradicting us with your reasons is not semua-nay OK!

Thank you. Now that you have clarified it Jac, it is time for Malaysia to amend the Rukun Negara; "Kepercayaan kepada Allah, tuhan yang Satu". No need to wait for it to be gazetted. The whole country has finally accepted it judging from the learned comments. The court can now throw out the appeal by Home Ministry. And nullify the imposed ban. Thank you, ya Allah. You are the Greatest!

UMNO can and will continue to make irrational decisions, spew out foaming hatred stirring statements only because there are enough stupid UMNO malays around. These stupid UMNO malays are easily stirred into banner carrying madmen and slogan shouting zombies. Or maybe they are just UMNO goons paid for the job??

The non UMNO malays however seemed to be ashamed for them. Too bad these people are generally not vocal. If only these will become more vocal and start telling the goons of their own community to shaddup. But real malays are nice people. Only the UMNO malays are raving rioting fools.

Dr Abdullah Md Zin :

You have an unfounded fear that Muslims will be influenced by the use of ALLAH by other religious practitioners.

It is because you have an ulterior motive of inciting religious hatred amongst the non-Muslim Raykat which actually depicts your considerably lack of understanding of your own religious practice, i.e. you have the least understanding of the virtues of ISLAMIC TEACHINGS.

Shafiq,

I agreed with your comment until the stage where you contradicted yourself by arguing that "... because Allah is the ARABIC word for God ... besides Bahasa Malaysia?"

Your comment above indicated that you too place importance on the usage of the word Allah under the pretense of proper usage of language.

Now, please tell us if the word Allah is an Arabic word? If so, then, surely that word should not have an English language type of spelling (alphabetical). It should only be written in Arabic letterings.

The fact that the word Allah is spelled alphabetically indicates to us that the word is used by other than Arabic-speaking countries and therein lies the fact that the word Allah has been used to identify a "higher being".

Because in Malaysia, the word Allah instead of Tuhan had been widely used over a prolonged period of time, the word Allah is now identified and accepted as describing God.

Whether Tuhan or Allah is the acceptable description of God will always depend on how the community had been exposed to either of the words.

When Arabic ideas, imams or religious leaders are consistently preaching to the locals, they use their version of Tuhan to indicate the description of God - and this happens to be Allah. If those preachers had started off with using the word Tuhan, then, over a same period of indoctrination, most of the people of Malaysia would definitely only use Tuhan to describe God and not Allah..

So, please do not argue the propriety of using any words of any language without understanding the history that had generated the meaning of such words.

Jacqueline, Jacqueline, for Allah's sake! You are blind and gullible.

Home Minister Sh** Botak has only ONE reason for forbidding the use of name Allah for non-Muslims, and it is not because of fear of Muslims converting to Christians.

What is the role of the Home Minister? To CREATE fear and division, and these are the critical factors to rule Malaysians.

This episode of bringing the Catholic organisation to court is to create lots of arguments and dissatisfaction amongst the Muslims and Christians, causing DISUNITY (the objective of BN rule). You keep on pointing out that BN should cultivate unity, but you are not thinking as shrewdly as the serpent (enemy). BN is NOT interested in Unity, and never will.

Same as Kugan's murder, this is such a windfall for BN, because they can cause many dissent and anger amongst the Indian race, and when people are angry they will accuse the other party, and hurl angry words (or write angry blogs) that hurt the other party. A hurt person will usually defend himself by hurting the accuser back, hence a vicious cycle.

The Home Minister wins, earning brownie points with UMNO and BN masters.

And to kill two birds with one stone, we are all distracted with these scandals while the UMNOputeras are siphoning our EPF funds, under our very nose, to their secret dormant companies, the inflation, the recession, the retrenched, the brain drain, the many underskilled and overpaid workforce...

There was a time when the peoples spoke one language and they were very powerful, so much so that God had to make us speak different languages. Imagine if all Malaysians speak can speak BM and English, imagine we were no longer confused, imagine if we know the Truth...

Oh no, our Malaysian govt will do their very best to ensure Malaysians will NEVER BE UNITED. That is the most important role of our govt - to divide and rule. Malaysians must be slaved under the bondage of LIES.

So Jacqueline, think like the serpent even as you go out as a lamb. And stop advising the govt what correct actions they should undertake, it's quite a joke!

"WHEN the Home Ministry forbids a non-Muslim group from saying "Allah", then attempts to prevent it from publishing in Malay, the government is imposing more than a ban."

Dear lokenpal,

I believe the Church has no ulterior motive in using the word Allah. They have been using the word for centuries mainly for the Malay speaking Christians especially in East Malaysia.

On the other hand, the home ministry may have many motives on banning the word. If the ban were to be pushed through, they would then ban all bibles and Christian literature with the word; then they can take action against those uttering the word during worship. The ban is indeed far-reaching and encompassing. Do you see the implications?

The Herald editor was quoted that he would stop using the word for now because he wanted to be accommodating. But the issue is now with the courts and the lawyer has advised to continue using the word until the courts decide otherwise. The reason I believe, is that any party is deemed to be innocent until proven guilty. The Herald has used the word for so many years without problems; so why stop now when ordered by the government? Do you want to be in jail while your case is pending in court?

We are living in a globalised world. Unless we want to be in an exclusive society like Saudi Arabia, we have to consider all aspects, views and scenarios. If you ban the word, how are the East Malaysians and visiting Indonesian and Arab Christians going to practise their faith? If the Arab Christians bring their Arabic bibles into Malaysia, would you allow it or still ban it because of the word?

It is not easy to ban a word. Even copyright and trademark laws have strict procedures to follow. Who has the copyright? Muslims, Christians or the Sikhs? My personal advice is for the home ministry just to issue an advisory to the other parties concerned not to use the word. There should be no compulsion as it is not practical to do so.

Hope good sense will prevail.
Peace.

No. 33 Kudus, Kudus, Kudus.

Kudus, kudus, kudus, Allah ke tinggi,
Kami tiap har muji Nuan tumu;
Kudus, kudus, kudus, ke pemadua kasih,
Apai, Anak, Roh ke endang satu.

Kudus, kudus, kudus, talok samo-a,
Bebasa lalu pantun ka muji Tuhan;
Bala serga sampal tundok lalu nyembah,
Muji Tuhan ke endang satu.

Kudus, kudus, kudus, ini alah lindong,
Utang orang jai nya meda Allah;
Amai Nuan kudus, nadai baka Nuan,
Pemadu kasih, pemadu kuasa.

Kudus, kudus, kudus, Allah ke tinggi,
Di langit, tasik. Dunya sampal ke muji;
Kudus,kudus, kudus, pengasih, pengrindu,
Apai., Anak, Roh ke endang satu.

Amin

•Note;- take note of the existence of the Sanskrit letterings in Iban Language. Such as Dunya, Kasih, etc.

•Jika penganut Kristian ingin penggunaan perkataan ‘Allah’ kekal; taipkan lagu pujian atau sserangkap ayat-ayat Bible dalam bahasa anda terutama bahasa Native Sarawak, orang Asli dan Sabahan ke dalam Malaysia Today or your blog bagi memberi Impak bahawa ‘Allah’ itu bukan sekadar perkataan malahan pembimbing dalam doa harian anda!
