(Bernama) -- Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) veteran Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck today announced his resignation as its assistant publicity secretary, a post he had been holding since 1991.

He told reporters here that he resigned as he could no longer function effectively in the post.

He said he was very unhappy over the treatment he had been getting from certain quarters within the party for the past two years.

"In the last two years my efforts to form the Dudong branch have met with a lot of interference from them.

"As an elected representative for SUPP, I have also been excluded from any meaningful participation in the Sibu Barisan Nasional Visionary Team," he said.

He said had been excluded from the traditional SUPP Chinese New Year open house organised by its three other elected representatives here within the same period.

Dr Soon, who is also Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, has been the Dudong state assemblyman since 1991.

He is also a member of the party's Central Working Committee, its highest decision making body.

Why are you excluded! here is my answer. You belong to Team A ,which is under SUPP President and it's was his blessing that you open this illegal Dudong branch, thus causing alot of problem with Team B ,who is led by SUPP Sibu Chairman,Datuk Wong Soon Koh.Many time the registrar have inform you to take down the illegal signboard but you refused and your supporters are all very aggressive. Many time Datuk Wong Soon Koh ask you to return to SUPP but you reject.Even with George Chan and the top leadership backing, many supporters in Team B are very unsatisfied with the party president ,for secretly backing Dr.Soon.This is a open secret in Sarawak and many take it as party president directive to undermine and erode the support of Datuk Wong, who have faithful supporters in Sibu and other states. This is a direct challenge to Datuk Wong and he takes this threat seriously.
Also,SUPP party president,George Chan, whose image is seriously dented by the massive loss in the last GE,have promised to step down in Dec2008,but have now gone back on his promise and continue to be defiant. Many grassroot supporters express dismay and have left the party.
SUPP will be face will serious setbacks in the next GE.

The Foochow group is taking over SUPP from George Chan. After that, they will fight amongst themselves for the leadership positions. It's already happening. This is only the tip of the iceberg. Just like their master Umno.

Dr. Soon,
There will be 'major war' ahead. It is better for you to join the Pakatan Rakyat BEFORE the 'war', because you will be regarded as a 'friend'. But if you join the Pakatan Rakyat AFTER the 'war', you will be regarded as a 'prisoner of war'. Think about it mate....

everyone who isn't a politician or sidekick in Sarawak knows that SUPP is heading to the the grave and this is all "approved" by the CM. he definitely doesn't need a strong Chinese party in Sarawak.

many SUPP leaders do not support Georgie but they would pretentiously support his continuation as the President. after all, who wants to lead a party which will be totally wiped out in the next state election? no one wants to be the captain of a sinking ship, especially if they don't have any idea how to stop the ship from sinking.
