(NST) - The Kuala Terengganu by-election on Jan 17 is too close to call -- at least from the perspective of local bookmakers.

Both BN candidate Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh and Pas contender Mohd Abdul Wahid Endut are given an equal chance of winning the contest.

Independent Azharuddin Mamat Adam has, however, been written off.

A local bookie, who only wanted to be known as Tee, said it was 'even money' on the outcome.

Although betting on elections is an offence, many illegal bookies take bets.

Tee, however, believes BN should become a slight favourite closer to polling day.

He said Pas was a popular choice immediately after the seat fell vacant, when Datuk Razali Ismail died.

"But the BN's efforts are beginning to affect sentiments."

Tee admitted that bookies are the sure winners in an evenly contested by-election, reaping from commissions.

As for the independent Azharuddin, Tee said the bet was whether he could get 100 votes.

NST, another nickname is running dogs! Come 17th Jan, Mr. Tee, you are going to lose your bet cos' PAS is going to win overwhelmingly, and topple UMNO/BN regime for good!!

When Barisan Neraka is fast becoming a CLEAR LOSER from DAY ONE, NST and all other MSM spinster will say it is a 50-50 chance or "tight race". And the most funniest thing of all, they use a LOCAL BOOKIE to justify their crab. I am not sure if this fella by the name "TEE" do exist or not. But I guess the reporter who spins this report should be charge for not making a police report on illegal betting which he or she has knowledge about, and put it on national news instead. He or she is deemed to be subordinating with crime. Am I right, NST?

NST is barking this outdated news. They are still in denial after 308 so that's why they lost 2/3 also.In Permatang Pauh,NST also say umno will have a good chance to topple Anwar, but in the end it was Anwar who topple umno. Those who believe in NST ,are like cows been led to the slaughtering house. This gov't toilet paper are blaring only bullshit.
umno will lost this election like they have never seen before. They will not only be defeated but will not walk, but crawl out of KT.

Take it with a large grain of salt. What's the proof. Is there a proper study conducted? Bookies method might as well be compared to Tea Leaf Reading..

"As for the independent Azharuddin, Tee said the bet was whether he could get 100 votes"

This might spell trouble in KT!

I know of a similar case whereby Chinese voters were betting on whether the Independent candidate would lose his deposit. This resulted in over two thousand votes going to that candidate whom everybody know have very2 little support and might get, at the most, a hundred votes.

I hope the PKR take note of and recognize this threat and counter the potential menace from gamblers.

As the gates flew open PAS is the first to jump out. Approaching the 800 meters, PAS is ahead by half a length. Rounding the hometurn PAS and UMNO went head to head and neck to neck. With 200 meters to go, Abdul Wahid give PAS a reminder and PAS kicks clear by 2 lengths. 100 meters...PAS by 3 lengths...ladies and gentlemen, you can que up and collect your money...its PAS...yes...its PAS by 5 lengths easily. UMNO came back limping and has to be put down.

Its quite silly to use a "bookmakers comments as an indicator, bookmakers will always stay neutral or not reveal what they actually know, thats how they keep the punters guessing. They would also be careful what they say to undercover reporters , because what they are doing is technically against the law.

I will go with RPK's prediction of at least 5,000 majority for Pas canditate,
because Pete is a man who has proven to do his homework well and has no ulterior motive other than revealing the truth.

Vijay, Real bookmakers are much sharper than that. If the odds are even but people like us think that PAS will win overwhelmingly, they would be knocking on our doors to place our bets on PAS with below even odds that people like us would jump onto.

The "local bookie" named Tee's speculation can make the news in NST - hah!!
Well, this "smart cookie" just consulted her crystal ball says NST is yesteryear's news. At least a crystal ball is not illegal (as a bookie)
