Pakatan Rakyat Row Hots Up: Karpal chides Kapar rep, urges him to quit PDF Print

(NST) The Kapar member of parliament should resign as MP and wait another five years before contesting, DAP chairman Karpal Singh said yesterday.

He said S. Manikavasagam, who is expected to resign from Parti Keadilan Rakyat before the New Year, was elected as an MP on a PKR ticket.

"People did not elect him in his personal capacity. He has no right to leave PKR and join any other party.

"His only other option is to resign so that the people in the constituency can decide what they want," Karpal said.

Karpal said there was a constitutional provision which states that an elected representative who resigns cannot stand for an election or by-election for a period of five years.

"This constitutional provision was included in the constitution by way of amendment by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when Semangat 46 was formed."

Karpal said Manikavasagam should not use the five-year ban as an excuse to remain an MP.

"Under the circumstances, he should resign. If he decides that he is unhappy with PKR, then a by-election would be proper," he said.

Karpal also said Selangor assembly speaker Teng Chang Khim should not have got into a spat with Manikavasagam and Klang MP Charles Santiago over the Klang Sentral Terminal issue.

Teng said Santiago had been bought over by the BN when he protested against the relocation of the current bus and taxi station to the new Klang Sentral Terminal.

In a small matter of a relocation of the current bus and taxi station. these PR fellas can't even put their own house in order!!
What can be expected of them if they hold the reins of power?
Many of the rakyat have put their faith in PR to spearhead the change to a more civil and democractic society even though PR was not successful to wrest power at federal level.
Examples like these will be capitilised on by the UMNOputras and the ordinary will remember them when we next go to the polls.

Yes, just quit and get it over with. Don't 'test the waters' by announcing it in the media only. Enough and sick of such childish representation. Your constituency deserves better representation at the National level.

Manikavasagam, be a man and resign to fight an election, just like what Sharir Samad did to give TDM a big tight slap when he resigned as MP of Johor Bahru back in the 1980s to contest as independent against all the might of corrupted UMNO/BN morons.

Come on, Manikavasagam and Santiago, please realise that national politics is more than just the relocation of the Klang Sentral Bus Terminal. No one can go far if they bark on an isolated issue which is very much Indian innature. Show to the nation that you two can look beyond Klang and race as that's the pre-requisite of mature and far-sighted politicans who to champion democracy. You two have such big egos that you see it fit to trade your pride at the expense of soiling PR which has been exploited by BN to the hilt. Where are your conscience?

Everyone in PR should calm down and leave their egos at home. Talk, communicate and don't wash dirty linen in public. You ppl are playing into the hands of umno. Remember you are voted in because ppl want an alternative govt.

Why is it I can't get over the feeling that dirty UMNO money is working hard in the hearts of these two potential one-term MPs? Why do I get the feeling that an MP who is one-termer is not going to be rich, but he can be dirty rich on UMNO money. If these 2 clowns are sincere about their issues raised, they would be talking to their leaders behind closed doors. To raise matters in such a way smells of foul intentions, and playing to the paymaster's script.Chinese saying "Got money can make the demons work the rice mill"

All PR leaders should just shut up on this issue and not let the MSM space to spin the story further to jeopardise the KT by election.

Don't appear to make the dishes of thieves more palatable just because you are unhappy with your own.

If anyone wants to leave the party, just leave him to his choice.
The electorate know better.

actually this is all good. everyone is showing their true colors. so we can see how stupid idiots are not exclusively property of BN. Don't be in such a rush to sing praises of Pakatan politicians next time, truth is probably only a few good fellows are worthy of our trust, the rest are just opportunistic scum, like all politicians in general.

Blame blame blame! Good for nothing MPs should bury their egos. PKR is bigger than any MPs. If it's so difficult to do your job, don't blame. Just find other ways, we will respect you more. Don't wish it was easier, Wish you were better.
