By LIM MUN FAH, Sin Chew Daily

Nature strikes back with a vengeance whenever we destroy the environment. Likewise, whenever the government disregards public opinion wantonly destructions caused by human beings, while the people resist, it can expect a backlash.

The best example is, of course, the 8 March general elections which was a large collective counter attack launched by Malaysians to protest against all kinds of unfair and unreasonable rule by the incumbents.

There is no doubt that change, is the most powerful and consistent voice of Malaysians in 2008.

If a country's regime can be changed, so will corruption. (Note that to be changed does not mean to be eliminate). The world and the country are more complicated than we thought as there are many examples of men corrupted by power. Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia as well.

The people have the right to vote for the government in a democratic country but the people-elected government does not necessarily hand the country's power back to the people. Why is it that in the real world, politicians always forget the commitment of serving the community once they are in power?

The most fundamental problem lies in the obsession of power.

There is no sustainable regime in the history. The spell of power is too alluring, it could change a person, making him forget his own dream. That is why, many elected heroes and saviours eventually turned out to be devils that go against the people. They establish all kinds of unreasonable laws in order to make their regimes last longer.

Former Indian Prime Minister late Pamulaparthi Venkata Narasimha Rao wrote in his book Insiders that: Those who insist on gaining power in order to change the world, would always turn themselves into devils along the power seizing process, in which they resort to every conceivable means.

Power, is so awful and ridiculous sometimes!

When we are welcoming the brand new year, and in between change and static, not only the people should remain vigilant, but politicians must remind themselves of not unconsciously turning themselves from "the people's fighters" into "devils on earth" in the pursuit of political power! As destiny is closely associated with the law of nature , if they took bribes to invest in the Bukit Antarabangsa land , the landslide opened the can of worms!

Absolute power crazy despots like the ones in UMNO must ****** the life of Nikolai Ceausescu of Romania and read it before they sleep tonight-- and get a feel of the opulence he lived with and how his and his wife's lives ended when they ran away from their own people in a rusted rickety tank during the closing days of his Govt.
That didn't end there ---- his son was disgraced from datuk playboy to datuk beggar! Will the corrupt despots here ever hear the bell??

Politicians from UMNO, MCA, MIC, Sarawak and Sabah are into politics not to serve the people but to make money. Before they comeinto power, they make a lot of promises and once they are voted into power, they completely forget the people. This has happened so many times before and hopefully the electorates of Kuala Terengganu are wise enough not to fall for the BN's trap. Come on people of KT, use your vote to tell BN that they are not wanted by the people. The UMNO led BN wants to sell away IJN at your expense, talk about helping overseas Malays when they can't do the same for local Malays, cheat you people of the oil royalty since 1999, fleece the people with lopsided privatisation of the IPPs, toll roads, Eurocopter deal and arms deals. Ask yourself honestly whether such a corrupted and abusive govt still deserves your vote?

Power comes with money and money can buy power. Money can make a sighted man blind, for money is too blinding to the eyes. Many of us cant see logics and more often than not, turn evil and behave inhumanly.Such is the evils of power and money.

Lim Mun Fah,
I am doubtful this bn govt was legitimately voted in.
First we hear of phantom voters incl. the dead, the underaged, and postal votes to turn the tide when necessary. All these are irregular; a good clean govt would want to eradicate all these. But in bn's case, they have done nothing abt it because they must win, by fair or foul means. And furthermore, we had gerrymandering, we hear of bn paying cash money to voters - is this democracy?

One word to describe this incompetent, useless & highly corrupt govt: cheats, cheating. All the above are tantamount to cheating. I believed some culprits caught for cheating or fraud had gone to jail. So to summarise, the bn govt is guilty of cheating and fraud.

Well, use your grey matter: how could you bring yourself to support a cheat & a fraud? This is just basic decency we are talking about. These men in power are not burdened with a conscience so they wud do anything they wanted to at any time they felt like it. These are men 50% of voters addressed them as "leaders". Malaysia is probably the most pathetic country in the world.
