The Perak state government’s decision to allow 149,000 people living in 349 planned and 134 new villages in Perak, with an appreciated land value of over RM1.5 billion, to apply for freehold titles has created a controversy.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Bernama

The fall of four more states — Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kedah — to the opposition in the March 8 general election was regarded as a “political tsunami” for the Barisan Nasional.

The BN had also failed to recapture Kelantan from Pas since it was toppled in the state in 1990.

In SELANGOR, former corporate figure Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim became the menteri besar of the Pakatan Rakyat-led state government comprising Parti Keadilan Rakyat, Pas and DAP.

BN’s downfall in Selangor, one of the most developed states in the country, was attributed to the disenchantment of the people towards the government over various issues especially irregularities in land matters.

The Chinese community also felt slighted over racist remarks by certain Umno leaders while the Indian community cried foul over demolition of Hindu temples.

The new Selangor state government faced a daunting task to honour its election promises.

However, it managed to provide 20 cubic metres of water free every month to Selangor residents from June, enjoyed only by consumers with individual water meters.

Former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo chided the state government for its failure to reduce the quit rent of private properties by 20 per cent and that of commercial properties by 10 per cent.

He claimed that certain quarters had defaulted on the quit rent payment to protest.

Hardly had the issue died down, Seputeh Member of Parliament Teresa Kok filed two defamation suits against the Utusan Melayu Group over two articles published in the two newspapers under its stable on Sept 10 and Oct 12.

Calling them “highly defamatory”, the Selangor executive councillor claimed that the first article in Utusan Malaysia had resulted in her week-long detention last month under the Internal Security Act.

On Oct 12, Mingguan Malaysia published a short story titled “Politic Baru YB Josephine”, which Kok claimed referred either directly or by innuendo to her.

In PENANG, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng took over as chief minister from Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon after the opposition whitewashed the BN in the state.

DAP won 19 of the 40 state seats, PKR nine, Pas one while the BN could only manage 11 seats.

In a show of strength, PKR won the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election with a bigger majority on Aug 26 through PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

It paved the way for him to return to Parliament following an absence of 10 years from political office and being appointed the opposition leader.

In September, the DAP-PKR government rejected the proposed RM25 billion Penang Global City Centre (PGCC) with Lim describing it “as good as dead”.

He said the developers had failed to submit planning plans as required by the state.

The state government also put up multi-lingual road signs in Georgetown despite protests from the Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry, claiming it was part of its efforts to promote tourism in the Unesco World Heritage site.

In July, Georgetown was declared a World Heritage site along with Malacca by Unesco.

The construction of the planned 26km second Penang bridge linking Batu Maung on the island to Batu Kawan on the mainland is expected to be a catalyst for growth in Seberang Perai.

In KEDAH, former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and former opposition leader Azizan Abdul Razak of Pas “swapped” positions.

The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, 82, celebrated his golden jubilee in July after 50 years successfully reigning the state.

Several districts in Kedah were hit by floods in September, during the Ramadan fasting month, forcing about 5,000 people to seek refuge at relief centres.

In PERAK, the DAP had initially protested against the appointment of Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin (now Datuk) of Pas as menteri besar as he represented only the third and smallest political party in the coalition.

Pas won six state seats while PKR seven and the DAP 18.

The state government’s decision to allow 149,000 people living in 349 planned and 134 new villages in Perak, with an appreciated land value of over RM1.5 billion, to apply for freehold titles has also created a controversy.

Senior executive councillor Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said the freehold titles were in perpetuity and not for 999 years as claimed by certain parties.

He claimed that the issuing of freehold titles to those living in planned and new villages was not against the National Land Code, as the state had consulted a former Court of Appeal judge and a panel of experienced lawyers on the matter before implementing the move.

What a pathetic attempt to put a negative spin to the achievements of the PR states since March 8!
Allow me to rephrase that part about Selangor:
"Former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Khir Toyo chided the state government for its failure to reduce the quit rent of private properties by 20 per cent and that of commercial properties by 10 per cent.

He claimed that certain quarters had defaulted on the quit rent payment to protest."

Although the Toyol has been chased out of the house, it is still lurking around the compound. To kill it, use GE13 ghostbuster.

Trust Bernama to apple pick only certain indents while leaving out BN shenanigans,
is this the standard, of jounalist Bernama employs ?
The article is jumping all over the place without putting things into perspective,
like a conversation between 2 teenage girls over their shopping exploits.

This is the most boring and lame coverage of the most exciting political upheavel since the perfect storm on March 8th.

Bernama, in the end, it's all in your substance in journalism 101, in which you failed miserably. Again, satu lagi project BN. With your bias reporting, no press in the world would print your sub standard articles. Luckily for you, you have crutches & sponsors (BN) to help you along the way...

When are you really gonna learn to fish? Eh?

RThe 13th General Election will be umno/BN last election becos they will be thrown out.
1,The malays have won't vote for umno becos umno continue to bullshit about NEP and treated them as stupid.
2,The chinese won't vote for MCA becos MCA didn't stand up for them when Ahmad Ismail call the chinese 'squatters'.
3, The Indians will not vote for MIC becos MIC help the gov't to demolish Hindu Temples and MIC mistreated the Indians by collaborating with umno in throwing Hindraf into Kamunting.
So that is why all Malaysian will vote umno/BN out and PR will be our new Gov't with Anwar as our next PM.

Here's my "Year in Review", the NOT BERNAMA version.

BN lost fives states, nearly lost NS as well if not for vote rigging and pre-marked postal votes.

Shahidan wept and cried foul when we wasn't reappointed MB by the wise Sultan.

In terrenganu, "biadap" Malays called our king N'tang, which basically means Animal, when again, the ruler *** PM recommendations, and went ahead appointing another MB. Ironically, this new MB also couldn't give a rat's ass on the PM directive on cost cutting and went ahead to buy more than a dozen new Mercedes.

Loose cannons UMNO warlords harp on racial issues to stir racial emotions hoping to reincarnate the ghost of May 13 but failing miserably. Some even went on a rabbies fit by tearing their own partner's leaders potrait.

The PM, without a hint of a brain, fearing the draining of our national coffers into fuel subsidy, raise petrol by 78 cent in one day creating a nationwide panic and an immediate rise in inflation by over 12%, although the Statistic Department and BNM would like you to believe it is at 7% only. In a space of 6 months, they have now reduce the petrol by 90 cents, but unfortunately, there is no impact to the price of all other goods. However, the reduction of 10cent on roti canai however was greatly appreciated which ended up as the headline of our newspapers.

Also made headlines was a former UMNO bigshot who magically appeared to become the head of the judiaciary in a span of a couple of years, which even David Copperfield and David Blaine could not even pull off.

Also proving a lighter point, police and home ministry are officially now heading the "homour section" of the newspaper with nonsensical remarks and statement like using "ISA" to potect detainees and that "police are not train to dig" as "police would be risking their lives to save others, so if they don't we have to respect their decision".

And latest, coming from our Foreign Miniter, one which is suppose to strengthen ties with our foreign counterpart, actually condone the act of a shoe thrower against the president of one of our biggest trading partners. Indirectly, he is also implying that he would support all citizen to throw shoe at any minister or leader if they feel not happy with them.

Most likely BERNAMA rented out the trucks to Toyal to cart away the photocopier , A4 stocks , unused cheque books and all the records the night after the results were announced. Bernama should change its Name to BERNAMA-TOYOL or Petek! so as to botox themselves for some good news-- a best seller for the world audience as a National news agency!http://sjsandteam.*********.com/

What a waste of my time reading this lame article. The writer is attempting to dampen the real victory of the rakyat synonymous with the widely used term 'political tsunami'.

i stay in selangor and i am happy with the selangor PR govt. For the first time ever I get something free from the govt. Even tho 20m2 is small money but it is still a difference when accummulated over many years staying in Selangor. Something free from govt is unheard of in the past. Instead of listing the one year what has PR done why not list down the 50years BN has done for the people. The rakyat gets poorer but the BN people gets super super rich! Tok Guru Nik Aziz house is still the same despite being menteri besar for Kelantan for more than a decade. Even a train gate keeper can build a palace given the right connections aligned to BN!

I congratulate the leaders of Perak, Selagor , Kedah and Penang for standing by its people against all odds with unnatural bigoted accusations from the other side filled with bagman and scumbags.

Looking back---!What gave the thought to UMNO to bring in despaired Bosnians during the genocide out there ? I'm with all those who suffer in the hands of the zealots and despots whether they are Bosnians or timbuktuans ! My question is why they did tht with all the rush? The answer lies in feeding the maggots of stink of the extremists who keep the lame ducks in power.

Why then have no Malaysian wives of Ministers ever visited the DAFUR refugee camps ??? are they not people of GOD. Is this not against the teachings of all faiths??
So who complained about the shopping trips to LONDON and Paris of the so called ones who think giving rightful plots to the poor is against the Law?? The TRUE Malays will have to burn the midnight oil to see how they have given the evil the space to samba!!!
