(NST) - Pas will announce its candidate for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election on Jan 1.

"He could be anyone from the party's ranks but I can assure you that the person is better than the Barisan Nasional candidate and can ensure a convincing victory for Pas.

"Parti Keadilan Rakyat accepts our choice," Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said yesterday.

Hadi said the announcement would be made at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah stadium, which has a 15,000-seat capacity.

"We are ready to face the BN.

"Our candidate has the character and professionalism and is well liked by the people," he said.

Asked why Pas is announcing its candidate much later than the BN, an unusual move for the party, Hadi said the party wanted to make the BN wait anxiously.

"Yes, in the past, Pas was made to wait. Not this time.

"We want to keep them (BN) guessing," he said.

Also present at the press conference were deputy president Nasharuddin Mat Isa and Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub.

In Kuala Lumpur, the inspector-general of police said police are ready for the by-election and would not hesitate to take stern action against those disrupting the process.

Tan Sri Musa Hassan said he told Terengganu police chief Datuk Mohd Shukri Dahlan, during his visit to the state recently, to ensure a trouble-free by-election.

"In my visit to check on police preparations for the by-election, I told the CPO to be firm in making critical decisions during the by-election," said Musa after officiating at the Arts, Culture and Heritage Ministry's Campaign on Promoting Culture for the police at the Police Training Centre here yesterday.

Musa advised supporters of the political parties not to get emotional.

"As long as they follow the rules, then there should not be any problem," said Musa.

From the tone of his voice and glint in his evil beady eyes, looks like that 'devil' IGP is already planning to sabotage or, at the very least, to make campaigning difficult for PAS so that his lord and master UMNO can will in KT.

I just hope PAS will come up with a good candidate and not as UMNO has done.

It will be very interesting to see how many ‘bebas’ candidates UMNO will field/sponsor in MT to dilute PAS votes. One candidate is almost certainly to be that last ‘spoiler’ grandmother ‘calon’ who managed to get just over 600 votes which possibly could have gone PAS way into victory.

They are anxious because they are scared. You could field a broom against BN and they will still scared. THey know they have screwed up bad and internally, their choices are between a rock and a harp place. either choice, its offends some group that will swing their vote elsewhere.

Beware, don't be carried away with just the by-election. Someone got to keep close track of their dirty trciks whatever the goons proposed and offer. Every project is a money making opportunity for them....................

If Hadi does not control his boys from making irritating statements and staging uncalled for protests, he can even put up a donkey as a candidate and PAS will win.

But PAS has been shouting so loud that even their own people in Terengganu are afraid of them.

One point I would like to remind, that is to check in detail and verify those poastal voters. During previous election Based on ratio the number of normal votes obtained by Pas to Bn was approx 1 is to 1. However the ratio of postal Voters were PAS- 1 to BN 11. I think there was something VERY VERY FISHY there.

i would rather the PAS not win. Allow me to clarify my concern and then you can vote me down.

To make things clear i am 100% Pakatan supporter but i am concerned about the future composition on Pakatan MPs. we need to law, religion and democracy... a balance of everything...

I don't know how policy making will be if we have more religious MPs pushing their way around, once Tok Guru is not around. will this alliance stand?

this reminds me of the Neo-cons during Bush's time...

PAS is needed to be a bench mark for the muslims.. DAP is needed to carry out reforms and advancement and PKR is need to hold all the parties together and administrate the country...

there must be balance, we cannot afford to be loped sided....

ok now you ppl can vote me down... smilies/wink.gif
