(The Sun) The government will reconsider its decision on the purchase of Eurocopter helicopters when the economy recovers, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said today.

"When the situation returns to normal, the government can reconsider whether to proceed with the purchase of this type of helicopter or make other decisions," said Najib, who is also finance minister, in a news conference here.

He was asked to comment on the recommendation of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that the government reconsider its decision to defer the purchase of 12 Eurocopter EC725 helicopters costing RM1.604 billion.

The PAC, in a report distributed to MPs had proposed that the purchase be made by 2011 at the latest after taking into account that the Nuri helicopters of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) were only safe for use until 2015.

Najib said the matter involved two issues.

"One, we want to ensure that the purchase is done without any element of abuse or unhealthy  element, and this has been confirmed by the PAC. The PAC has

conducted a study and found that we have followed all the procedures in this international tender, so the initial allegation is totally unfounded," he said.

The second issue was that the decision to defer the purchase was due to the current economic situation which forced the government to give priority to projects with high impact on the nation's economic growth and the people's well-being, he added. - Bernama

Surely Najis won't let go this opportunity! Instead still harping on purchasing the eurocopter so that the commission will enter his pocket!

Britain placed a 1 billion-pound order for 70 of the helicopters with Finmeccanica SpA’s AugustaWestland unit in June, 2006.

That's RM 71 million for each attack copter, compared with our RM133 million each for our Eurocopter.

Buying of the Helicopters is ok provided that the contract/tender is counter checked by all MP in Parliment. This should be debated and scrutinized before any confirmation. Otherwise the Rakyat will reject again.

Why not go ahead with the purchase ? After all, we are still a long way from Zimbabwe and so far we are only afflicted with an AIDS epidemic, not to mention hospital corridors overflowing with the near corpses of Malaysians suffering from dengue ! So go ahead, Najib dear boy, BUY your damned helicopters and sink us Malaysians a few more feet into the cesspit that you and your brethren in UMNO have dug for us. Problem is, I don't think that even THAT (sinking us into the cesspit), would satisfy you and your ilk ! Guess you'll want it all ! Even our souls !
