Indonesia to Draft Rules of Engagement with Malaysia |

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Indonesia and Malaysia to intensify their intelligence cooperation and to set a new agreement to minimize incidents between the two countries' military at border, officials told the press on Thursday after a security meeting in Jakarta.
Indonesia Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono said the two countries agreed to draft a set of rules of engagement to reduce number of "physical dispute" in sea borders between security personnels from the two countries. Navies from the two countries have been involved in several provocative manouvres for territory infringements or resources dispute. A number of incidents have been recorded since President Yudhoyono took office in 2004. Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi said the meeting also saw an agreement to intensify the existing intelligence cooperation between the two countries. Smuggling, trafficking, piracy, illegal logging, illegal fishing, and terrorism, are some of the areas where Indonesia and Malaysia are to extend their information sharing cooperation. The 37th conference of General Border Committee closed on Thursday.
