(The Star) Former Umno member Datuk Zaid Ibrahim has been appointed to the Malaysia Think Tank advisory board.
Zaid said he was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the organisation. “These young activists are trailblazers in advocating liberal democracy in Malaysia within the framework provided by our Federal Constitution and the vision of our founding fathers,” he said. “I will do what I can to help this unique organisation.” Zaid, a lawyer by training, resigned as Senator and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of legal and judicial reform, after the Government arrested a reporter, a blogger and an MP under the Internal Security Act. Malaysia Think Tank director Abidin Muhriz said those at the organisation were thrilled that Zaid was joining them. “His experience in Government will be a valuable asset in communicating our ideas to policymakers. “He is not afraid to speak his mind, and we look forward to his input,” he said. Malaysia Think Tank’s mission is to encourage the adoption of the principles of free individuals, free markets, limited government, and rule of law in Malaysia.
