(The Star) Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek should be more sensitive to the feelings of Bukit Antarabangsa residents.
Residents action committee chairman Datuk N. Muneandy said the minister’s statement was uncalled for. Ahmad Shabery had reportedly told residents not to blame the Government, saying both developers and housebuyers should also accept responsibility for what had happened. “Are you saying we should blame the mother for giving birth to the thief?” Muneandy asked. Muneandy also said complaints on unstable soil over the years to the local authorities had fallen on deaf ears. They also want the Government to provide more information, claiming residents had been kept in the dark over plans to alleviate problems caused by the landslide. Yesterday, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said a one-stop information centre would be set up soon to provide information to residents. Earlier, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said he would meet the Public Works Department and various state agencies to get an overall picture of the incident. “At the moment, we cannot say if the problem was due to human factor or natural causes,” he said.
