(The Star) - The Terengganu Government and organisers of the Monsoon Cup should bring the event to greater heights, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

“The event brings together some of the world’s top sailors to Malaysia and this is certainly a boon to tourism in Terengganu.

Good job: Abdullah congratulating the Monsoon Cup 2008 winners, the team Yanmar led by Datuk Peter Gilmour, at Pulau Duyong yesterday.

“The Monsoon Cup has generated greater interest in sailing. Furthermore, the event has spurred Malaysia’s own national sailors to achieve greater international success,” he said at a luncheon.

Abdullah said the event offered opportunities to show Terengganu and the nation to the world.

He said the success of the Monsoon Cup proved that Terengganu possessed the quality to host international events.

“This is one area which will certainly boost Terengganu‘s economy and act as a catalyst for the local tourism industry,” he said.

He added that since the first Monsoon Cup was held in 2005, the event had grown by leaps and bounds and progressed beyond initial expectations.

“Indeed, the Monsoon Cup has reached a certain level of maturity to become a permanent fixture on the world sailing schedule,” he said.

Abdullah said he was pleased that the event saw an increasing number of visitors each year.

“Most importantly, this event had brought much excitement to the state and its people with the myriad of thrilling performances and side events,” he added.

“Most importantly, this event had brought much "excitement" to the state and its people with the myriad of thrilling perfomances and side events,” he added.
------------------------------------------------------------------

But the most "excitement" goes to your SIL, Patrick Badawi and his cronies as Millions of RM meant for the poor and destitute Terengganu folks went to their pockets each year!

May the "monsoon" wipe out the UMNO regime that had robbed the poor Terenggenu folks in the next election. . .!

This is a classic example of how the gov't waste the rakyat's money instead of putting it into education.Events like this only gives their cronies a chance to fatten their pockets.

300 million isnt it to fund this `tourists seeking' event and `putting malaysia on the world sailing map'? Looks like a few people are sailing off with much needed funds for trengganu. Wonder how they take their hordes of sailor-tourists through the rickety houses of our rakyat?

A few hundred millions of ringgits to draw some professional sailors and tourists.

Bet the BN led event can't show much of actual tourism returns or benefits to the state's people !

HOW THE UMNO/BN REGIME ‘SCREWED-UP’ THE PEOPLE OF TERENGGANU

Dear chrisyong,

To give you some idea how the UMNO/BN regime had “screwed-up” Terengganu, here are the facts;

Terengganu should receive over RM1 billion annually from the Federal government. This is from the “royalty” of Petronas “sucking” out petroleum and gas from Terengganu shores. But the money did not go to the state directly, instead, they are channeled to a fund called “Wang Ihsan” (“ihsan” means mercy). This money in “Wang Ihsan”, amounting to billions of RM are at the mercy of SIL and his 4th floor cronies. They are not being handled by the state government of Terenggganu.

Terengganu’s budget for 2008 is about RM1.5 billion compared to Selangor of only RM1.3 billion. But than, Terengganu’s population is slightly more than 1 million whereas Selangor’s population is more than 5 million. While Selangor is one of the richest states in the country, Terengannu is one of the poorest states. Terengganu’s poverty rate is almost 11% while the country’s average is 5%!

Now, you figure out where those budgets went . . ., not to the poor of course, but for mega projects, such as the “Crystal Mosque” and the “Taman Tamaddun Islam”. The monsoon cup budget alone is RM250 million per year and they are obliged to organize this wasteful event for at least 10 years! That means almost 20% of Terengganu’s budget meant to develop the state for the benefit of the rakyaat each year went to this wasteful event. Now tell me also if this event could generate income and give enough returns to the Terenggganu’s population. . . definitely not! The only returns to the tune of hundreds of million RMs annually are to the 4th floor cronies!

Now imagine this. . ., what if the RM250 million annually ( or RM1 billion every 4 years) being siphoned by the UMNO cronies through the Monsoon Cup event are being used to build roads, schools, clinics and other infrastructures for the benefit of the poor.

I sincerely hope the people of Terengganu would be wise enough to choose their future leaders . . ., may God bless them!

Peter Gilmour has made the simple discovery that if you pander to a rich Malay's ego you can milk them of all the money you want. He can then spend the rest of the year indulging his hobby

The Monsoon Cup is about as far removed from Malaysian Reality as is Pak Lah
