(Sin Chew Daily) Is sacking former Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim a loss for UMNO or Zaid?

For Zaid, it is no longer important whether he is still an UMNO member after resigning from the post of minister. Did he even bother about his party membership after he has given up the minister position?

In fact, Zaid has been ready to risk everything.

He is now free from the restraint of toeing the party line and he can say or do whatever he likes. He can criticise the party's racial slant and he can attend anti-ISA activities without fear.

He has left UMNO and the government as they couldn't find a suitable platform in them to put his ideas to work.

He has confessed that he is in no hurry to join the opposition Pakatan Rakyat. He has said just as much that he is keen to explore political ideals instead of seeking political fortunes.

However, in the long run, if Zaid wishes to continue his political struggle, he must find himself a new platform. The choice if to join PKR, DAP or even Pas. Otherwise, he may lose his influence be forgotten.

On the one hand, Zaid may not be succeed if he stays in UMNO. Instead, he may move far away from his ideals. Leaving UMNO means gaining freedom rather than suffering a loss for Zaid.

On the other hand, UMNO would not feel sorry for losing Zaid as he has been a pain among conservative UMNO leaders. It would trigger more controversies and disputes if he stays in UMNO. Also, it would be hard for UMNO leaders to explain to the party's traditional and conservative grassroots.

Sacking Zaid means getting rid of a problem as well as consolidating the internal factions. However, the reformist ideas brought by Zaid when he first joined the Cabinet had faced a lot of setbacks. Perhaps, UMNO leaders believed that they are not against reform but Zaid is just running too fast that could not match the pace of UMNO. However, some are of the opinion that sacking Zaid would make it more difficult for UMNO to change. (By TAY TIAN YAN/Translated by SOONG PHUI JEE/Sin Chew Daily)

What reformasi? As far as UMNO is concerned there is only lip service to reformasi. Say and do totally miles apart. People in the world are moving forward but UMNO still want to be stuck to their good ole days. Well let them dream on to a rude awakening

Zaid's political carrer in Umno was as good as over even before nominations for the March 08 elections. He was not nominated.

It was by the side door that he was made minister and only after the "disaster" faced by Umno that AAB could convince the warlords that Umno needed window dressing for reform. YES, it was only window dressing to show the public that the party was ready for reform. When Zaid thought it was for real and started to demand for this and that including judicial vindication for the sacked judges, it was too much for the warlords and they had to and did get rid of him.

So Umno is not about reform but about perpetuating their greed and plunder. Wake up and show them that the rakyat knows this and show them the way out is at Kuala Terengganu.

Dato Zaid, the party is very well known to practice corruption among its members and leadership. By sacking Zaid they reakon that they MANAGED to solve a problem, BUT the impression created by the action can be observed soon. We are human being, we cannot be forced to do something which are WRONG.

This is the result of enslaving the whole populace of Malaysia to benefit a few elite who would do anything to keep themselves in power against the wishes of the RAKYAT !! Great people like RPK and Zaid get marginalized and victimized ... see below for a direct comparison between Malaysia & Singapore, written by Maha-Shithead's nephew !!

A frank discourse by a bumiputra of Malaysia.

Singapore's Minister Mentor, Lee Kuan Yew, who was Singapore's founding father, has always been very direct in his comments. This was the man who outsmarted the communists in Singapore (with the innocent help of Malaya then and the willing help of the British) and who later outwitted the British and outpaced Malaysia in all spheres.

Singapore practices corrupt-free meritocracy and Malaysia affirmative action. The former attracted all the best brains and the latter chased out all the brains. The Singapore cabinet consists of dedicated and intelligent technocrats whereas Malaysia has one of the most unwieldy cabinets. Not only that, brain wise it was below par not even good for the kampong.
With that kind of composition, one that is very brainy, naturally Singapore , with no natural resources could outstrip Malaysia in every aspect of development. Malaysia, on the other hand, was too much preoccupied with its Malayness and the illusory 'Ketuanan Melayu' and was also more interested in useless mega iconic development rather than real social and economic development.

Whenever Kuan Yew utters anything that deemed to be a slight on Malaysia , voices were raised admonishing him. Malaysia would never dare to face reality. That Singapore had shown that it could survive was a slap on those who believed that Singapore would fold up once it left Malaysia .

Therefore it was natural that these doomsayers would try to rationalise their utterances to be in their favour to combat on whatever Kuan Yew commented. Its political jealousy.

Umno is choking in their own vomit now !! any which way UMNO goes, all the despair and errors follow it like a shadow.
This is the creature of 51 years , with multiple heads -- Ahmad Ismail and his likes . Imagine Malaysia governed by upstarts like him !! God Save this Land!! .
UMNO seems to think that the Petronas wells are infinitely perennial. They better prepare for some buffaloes in time --- at the rate of abuse of the funds from natural resources .
UMNO's mentality is they need a stupid base to rule , they just cannot engage honorable ones like Zaid!!
Time will tell soon!! 2009 is just about to dawn on the Rakyat and UMNO is loosing sleep by the secs!! God Bless Zaid!!
