Good story. The writer is doing what Jesus teaches and surprisingly she is more Christian than a Christian.
A beautiful lesson for me too.

That’s a heartwarming story, I supposed.

But I am a bit puzzle! Don’t we all do that sometimes? I mean didn’t any fellow bloggers here also did the same in one form or another, to help others who obviously needed help without having them to ask for it?

It's nothing new to me because I know my God wants me to meet such people and to do the necessary, if I can of course!
Still, I find it a bit strange that some people would actually relate how they have helped someone at some time!

Look at the Singapore education system. One that works. Produces world class graduates every year from the best universities in the world.

There are no Chinese schools, no Tamil schools or Malay schools. Yet all get to learn their mother tongue. No one is complaining about loss of identity. They bring the best language teachers from China, Malaysia and India to teach these languages. They send their language teachers to learn universities in these countries.

The children speak their respective languages with class. Watch any TV or listen to any radio program from Singapore. NO rojak of languages like ours.

Yes agree krising1, up to this point I think only the both of us read the original link,
from the comments I surmise that the rest have mistook "middlepaths" popular email forward as the main article.

Which underscores a point I made yesterday-Its no surprise Samy kicked up a fuss over Mukhriz's statement...

"I am not surprised that MCA & MIC mayhaps even UMNO will make a big hue and cry , because as race based parties their survival is tied to these.
The demise of vernacular schools will be the demise of race based parties- and they know it hence the uproar. In the 80's whenever Samy Velu was asked what he did for the Indian community, he would rattle off the latest statistics of tamil schools and temples built, I was already a harsh critic of MIC 20 years ago, when i told some that there were bigger issues affecting the community than temples and tamil schools they critisized me about not being proud of my roots. It took them 3 decades to realize that MIC was only seeing them as a voter bank."

Apart from the problem of plunder of funds allocated for the Tamil schools, they also face the problem of poor economy of scale. The number of students enrolled in Tamil schools is so low that the demand for Tamil school teachers is minimal. As a result, they will never be able to set up proper facilities for training excellent teachers. All they can do is to "tumpang" here and there to train the teachers in ongoing programmes. There can't be much effort geared towards addressing the specific needs of Tamil schools.

In any case, as was pointed out in the original article, the home environments of the bulk of Tamil school attendees is hardly conducive to seeking educational goals. The TV will end up being the primary educator. At least, in a national school, they get a broader exposure.

But unless the policy on the teaching of Mother Tongues is clearly defined, this proposal will not make any headway.

On the matter of a long and irrelevant article being posted as a comment and sidelining the original article, this is something I wish the folks in charge of MT will take care of. Not all MT readers take the trouble to exercise common sense or courtesy.

To anyone wishing to post an interesting article, you can send it directly to MT. They will publish it for you. You don't have to post it as a comment in another article, unless it has specific relevance to the original article. Also, it will be good if you can state the point you wish to make in relation to the original article when you post your contribution.

i have always preferred to turn our education system to be english based. argue all you want, with malays is this or that or whatever.

think about survival and progress. study english doesn't mean i am less malay/indian/chinese.

study english compulsory and malays with 1-2 periods. the rest are optional. mandarin/tamil can be taught via tuition.

period....stop all the crap about losing the dignity of malays. i am a chinese and i can't speak mandarin. so what's the big deal? i can speak malay and english and i celebrate CNY. so, am i what?

stupid,,,UMNO. i am a malaysian, so happen to born a chinese, have the privilege/opportunity to learn bahasa malaysia and english. not knowing mandarin, so be it. same, i urge the rest of my indian frens.

Indians and Chinese should not listen to this kind of talk, to have a uniform educational system, to have compulsory POL in these uniform schools, etc. We have tried all that. It does not work.

I may write an article on this, for the benefit of our many wide eyed gullible activists who listen to tales. We should never go back to full english medium education!

Temenggong ther you go again! You just dont get it, do you? Here we have a right thinking man, and you tell people not to listen. No doubt, compulsory POL classes is a no-brainer- but at least he sees the problem. You don't, or prefer spins to justify your state of denial.

You haven't replied to what I had written in the past as yet - but feel free to write about this, as I look forward to your reasoning. I'm sure your logic will make "plenty of sense".

Just as reference, you may drop by for some ideas and read

Forcing me to write? Wanna take a swipe at me? I guess I'll have to write that article then.

Right thinking man? I don't think so Cru. Just a sentimental outburst by a frazzled young citizen.

What is that you wrote that I missed and did not reply? I'll check out that link anyways, Cru

Gimme a couple of days as I'll be in Malacca for the next few days with them formosa boys. Malaysian education can wait!

I sympathize with the writer and his community. Everyday I drive past a SRJK (Tamil) whenever I'm heading to or from home. The writer is correct is saying the Chinese community is economically stronger than the Tamil-speaking one. If a Chinese family is unable to send their children to school, the community is able to help financially. I believe this is thru the Associations set up by the business people. My father-in-law has retired from active business for decades now but he's still very involved in the associations' activities. If the Tamil community (>

Well written, the pain is real. The Indian community indeed needs drastic assistance, but such assistance won’t be forth coming under BN because BN pperate under a bunch of corrupted perverts. The so call leaders of the Indian community are cannibalising their own community. Only the Indian community themselves can save them self by removing the BN.

I advised my Indian bre***eller to send his children to the national school.I told him that he stayed in Malaysia. He like it or not the mainstream education system are in use.Sending his children to Tamil school deprived them a lot.Even a more established chinese school had problem.First they had lost one year of their school life by attending remove class..Second they were not proficient on Bahasa Malaysia and English .

The could learned Tamil at home or better still if the number of students were adequate, then they can asked the school to hire a part time Tamil teacher..My friend the Roti man had listen to my advice
