November 30 marks the 6th anniversary of the mysterious death of social activist Jubal Lourdes and his wife Irene Ch'ng. Jubal was also at the time of his death an Aliran Exco Member.Jubal had been very active in championing the cause of the oppressed not only in Malaysia but in other countries as well. Jubal was a strong opponent of the ISA.

Their deaths remains a mystery till today.One just cannot fathom how a six footer can drown in a pool that is only 6 foot deep in the deepest end while his wife Irene was an excellent swimmer.

Things became even more intriguing when Umno owned newspaper New Straits Times made a spin on their tragic deaths. On Dec 2 2002, the newspaper ran a front-page story implying the couple had quarrelled and might have consumed some pills before they entered the pool, as several bottles of medication were found in their hotel room along with a letter addressed to their two children. The implication of the NST report was death by suicide.

The Bali police later categorically denied the details contained in the NST report: the medication turned out to be painkillers for Jubal's slipped disc and there was no note to the children. Jubal's brother Darrel said that hotel guests he had interviewed said there was no quarrel; the couple had been happy. Following the results of the post-mortem conducted in Bali, the police have categorically ruled out suicide. The cause of death was due to drowning.

One would have expected more responsible and accurate reporting from an established national newspaper. It should have verified its sources and, if there was any doubt as to their reliability, it should have exercised caution. Instead, the paper insinuated suicide and published the story on the front page.

Barisan Nasional is using the same dirty trick again. I can still recall "operasi lallang" where Lee Kim Sai, raising the Ketuanan Melayu issue and Najib wants to bathe the keris with Chinese blood and all hell break loose.

ISA was used to arrest all and Mahathir was victorious! Lee Kim Sai and Najib was never arrested under ISA, but the opposition lost heavily.

It's a trap and I agree with batsman.

Pelik sungguh! Buat apa nak minta maaf bila ketuanan melayu tiada dalam perlembangan malaysia? Tetapi istilah ketuanan Cina sememangnya wujud di negara China dan sebahagiannya telah lesap setelah orang Cina tempatan di Tanah Melayu, Malaya and kini Malaysia menggelar mereka sebagai anak Bangsa Malaysia. Saya rasa kuasa mesti dikembali kepad sultan untuk menyelesai masalah kerajaan sekarang.
