Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib yesterday questioned the credibility of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who aims to unseat the Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next state election due in 2011.

In raising doubts over Anwar's credibility, especially as his September 16 deadline in which he had promised to form a new government did not materialise, Taib said, even the former's attempt to concentrate on wresting power in the peninsula had yet to produce results.

"I don't want to comment on people like that. Well, his (Anwar's) credibilty is not that high when he said September 16 is his target date which he promised to be the date to form a new government," Taib, who is also state BN chairman told reporters after chairing the weekly state cabinet meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia at Petra Jaya here.

"Are you going to put that in print or you don't want to put it in print. Isn't it true?" he said when asked to comment on Anwar's statement in his keynote address at the PKR national congress held in Shah Alam yesterday that his next takeover target was Sarawak.

The cabinet was unable to convene its meeting last Thursday because Taib had to be in Kuala Lumpur for an official function and it was instead held today as many of the state ministers are expected to go on leave soon.

On Saturday, Anwar asked the party's leaders to make weekly trips to Sarawak to meet its aim to unseat the Barisan Nasional (BN) government in the state.

"Sarawak will be our next battleground before the Pakatan Rakyat takes over the federal government," he said at a rally held in conjunction with PKR's national congress in Shah Alam, Selangor.

He stated this when explaining to those present why the PR could not meet its deadline of Sept 16 to unseat the federal government.

He further said it (taking over of federal government) did not materialise because a letter to negotiate the matter sent to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was not entertained by him.

Another reason, he said, was that BN MPs wanting to defect had laid a condition that their names not be revealed until they were ready to do so. -- Bernama

I heard this Taib fella had cancer, the incurable types -- the first one being he is a plunderer & greedy. He has too many crooks to protect & sooner or later they will expose him. Secondly he had the real thing. Not that I wished it on him but for the Sarawak people, I am sure they will celebrate his departure. All best wishes to PR.

Tahi Mahmud, Your credibility is only intact among the members of your political party, dUMNO. Every other Malaysian knows you are a criminal in the courts of Australia and your credibility outside the tempurung known as dUMNO is ZERO. So who is he to judge the credibility of DSAI. As far as Malaysians are concern there are many dUMNO crooks that are not guilty because they belong to that prehistoric tribe eg Tahi, Amin Submarine, Najis and the list goes on.

At grassroots level, ALL Sarawakians know Taib and his gang are corrupted way past their eye balls.
Yes, Sarawakians are fed-up with Taib’s government, but a better alternative government must be shown to them.

For the PKR to win this State, they have to correctly identify leaders who are for and by the people (or close enough!). If PKR uses recycled politicians, their chances will not be good.

And when are you stepping down, Taib? Haven't you taken enough from Sarawak? How much more do you need? In the meantime, the Dayaks who live off their ancestral lands are now in danger of losing them because of you and your greed. You are treating Sarawak as though it's yours. You want to hand it to your son. Well, we shall see. Enough is enough for the people of Sarawak : we are waking up and we will overthrow you.

knowing that Taib and gang is severely corrupted and being able to do something about it is something else. this is what happens when one person is allowed to grow too almighty, to the point that the tentacles of his empire have grown too far and wide that it would be nearly impossible to uproot.

Taib would love to be able to go and live out his old age somewhere peaceful and get out of politics. he has more than enough to last many years, but can he? will his cronies who make up his empire allow him to? that is his dilemma.

it would be very interesting to see what kind of leaders PR can get in Sarawak. and as one poster mentioned, it better not be recycled politicians as most of them are useless in the eyes of Sarawakians.
