(Bernama) - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Dr Syed Husin Ali today took to task groups in PKR Youth and Wanita Keadilan at division and branch levels who are unwilling to accept new members out of personal interest.
He said the groups did not like to accept new members and the emergence of new leaders fearing that their positions in the party would come under threat.
“Their leadership is weak, lacking in initiative and not that good working as a team. At times, they are dominated by small groups who make their own decisions without discussing with others,” he said when opening the PKR Youth and Wanita congress 2008 here today.
“Sorry for being straight forward. The weaknesses and negative tendencies are more prevalent among PKR Youth compared to the Wanita. Youth members should not be angry as this can be improved.” Dr Syed Husin said Youth and Wanita leaders should stick to the tradition of making decisions collectively.
“Leaders who are active and dominant can be a valuable party asset but the decision making process among leaders must be made through discussions and democratic means.” He urged Youth and Wanita to attract people from all levels of society from the farmers to professionals and also more non-Malays to reflect the racial composition of the country. Dr Syed Husin later told a press conference that PKR had accepted nearly 100,000 new members in recent months.
Asked about Pakatan Rakyat’s plan to takeover the federal government, he said: “We don’t talk much about the date of takeover but it is much on our agenda. Sept 16 was the beginning of the process and it is not the beginning and the end of everything.” “The power takeover process is ongoing and can happen in the near future or maybe at the 13th general election,” said Dr Syed Husin.
He urged Youth and Wanita members to be prepared for any eventuality as the power takeover could happen before the next (13th) general election.

born leaders and there are born leaders. Otherwise we would not get good
leadership members out there. All great statesmen have to lend their ears
to lead well.
