Very well said Widi.
Its the individual followers who have the final say as to whether they want to obey this edict or not. Afterall, only they themselves (and Allah) know how strong their faiths are without others telling them what they can or cannot do.
I say, leave them alone and let them (Fatwa Council and the Muslim community) do what they want and like, as long as they don't encroach on other people's beliefs and right of religion as enshrined in our constitution.

If they think certain things or practices can erode their faith in their religion, let them do whatever they like. All I can say is to each his own. Whether they want to be progressive and move with the times or want to move backwards, that's their right. Like I said earlier, just don't impose on other
people's beliefs and sensitivities and try to obstruct the earth from spinning, then we should be alright if the council wants to come out with whatever edicts they deem fit for their followers.

Indonesia is different with here, they have multi religions. I knew a moslem family who owns a dog. The son even attached to the dog. Moslem have no prob married with non moslem. No issue of body snatching or other issue which exist here. Inul has no prob to perform as well there.

Other religions does not issue fatwa to their followers but instead gives them advice and support. However, if anyone of them wanted to change their religion because their faith is with their new religion then it is still acceptable. Many non Muslim converts are still acceptep by their family members because of the respect to their personal beliefs. Therefore, the issue of fatwas goes to show that the Muslims are always on the offensive. Where is the so called freedom of religion as stated by the government?

when the majority of Malaysian Muslims is rid of UMNO's interpretation of Islam, then finally they may realise that the year is 2008 and not 1408 and move on to be an advanced Islamic country with ideas and "fatwas" that suit the current times yet do not stray from God's teachings.

and to the one who suggested that a good Muslim is always a good person, that may be true so long as the person is truly a good Muslim and not one who looks and performs all the rituals to qualify as a good Muslim. in fact, a good Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, atheist as most likely good people as well.

The above passage contradicts a basic tenet of Islam that there is only one God but Allah. The fact that the Koran acknowledges that there are other Gods calls into question which is the true Allah.

Is there one God or many Gods? The Koran must decide. I suspect the humans who wrote the Koran many years after Muhammed died have made mistakes in recording the words attributed to him or recorded what was remembered incorrectly.

It is a measure of immature faith that one sticks blindly to a book written by humans which is open to myriad interpretations.Even to this day the meaning of words in the Koran is evolving. It is insulting to think one can understand Allah only through a book written by humans of a particular time and culture. We should not limit God.
