This Fatwa on Yoga is really good progress for the Muslim. Now we Muslim can concentrate to do others better and healthier exercise like fucxking and making more Muslim. We can enjoy this Fucxking exercise at the same time to increase our Muslim population to 99.99% by year 2050 in Bolehland.

Also please come out Fatwa to Ban Muslim from Learning English and Mandarin also.
As an individual who learn English language will eventually lead them to the exposure to all the English literature like Bible. And Mandarin will lead them to access the study of Taoism and Confuciousism. All this will make the Muslim divert their faith from Islam.

Islam was spread to the Asian countries very fast. It came with hadith and the Holy Quran, for ones guidence rasullah's hadith is very clear on each movement and daily life. Why was all these not banned during the calipa and the sabahas of Rasullah. Why the fatwah council doing all these things now when we are living in peace. Namun, katanya, ia tidak digalakkan kerana dikhuatiri boleh menghakis akidah seseorang Muslim memandangkan ia merupakan salah satu komponen daripada keseluruhan amalan yang diharamkan itu.

‘‘Setelah meneliti dan mengkaji hujah-hujah serta pandangan, senaman yoga yang berasal daripada masyarakat Hindu sejak Sebelum Masihi itu yang menggabungkan amalan fizikal, unsur keagamaan, mentera dan pemujaan bagi tujuan tertentu seperti mendapatkan ketenangan dan kemuncaknya penyatuan diri dengan tuhan adalah tidak sesuai dan boleh merosakkan akidah.

‘‘Ahli muzakarah memutuskan apa juga jenis atau bentuk amalan yang mengandungi unsur-unsur tersebut adalah dilarang dan bertentangan dengan syariat Islam,” katanya pada sidang akhbar di sini hari ini.

Turut hadir Ketua Pengarah Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (Jakim) yang juga Setiausaha Muzakarah Jawatankuasa Majlis Fatwa Kebangsaan, Datuk Wan Mohamad Sheikh Abdul Aziz.

Keputusan mengenai fatwa yoga itu dilakukan pada muzakarah Jawatankuasa Fatwa Kebangsaan ke-83 di Kota Bharu, Kelantan pada 22 hingga 24 Oktober lalu.

Sebelum ini, seorang pensyarah dari Fakulti Pengajian Islam, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Prof. Zakaria Stapa menasihati orang Islam yang mengamalkan senaman yoga supaya menghentikannya kerana bimbang boleh memesongkan akidah.

Yoga amalan kesihatan yang diperkenalkan sekitar sejak 3,300 Sebelum Masihi dikatakan dapat membantu melambatkan proses penuaan, mengurangkan risiko kencing manis, darah tinggi, lelah dan penyakit berkaitan jantung.

Amalan senaman harian itu kebanyakannya mempunyai pergerakan berdasarkan unsur dalam agama Hindu, manifestasi gerakan, konsentrasi dan posisi tubuh dilakukan sambil membaca mentera.

Setakat ini, pengharaman senaman yoga telah dilaksanakan di Singapura dan Mesir.

Menurut Abdul Shukor, umat Islam dinasihatkan agar menjauhi amalan yoga meskipun sekadar mempraktikkan pelbagai variasi senaman fizikalnya kerana ia adalah sebahagian daripada keseluruhan sistem senaman tersebut.

‘‘Kalau setakat kita duduk macam yoga itu tidak ada masalah, lagi pun ia ada beratus jenis pergerakan, tetapi masalahnya amalan senaman itu adalah sebahagian daripada keseluruhan sistem yoga.

‘‘Amalan fizikal itu hanya peringkat pertama, kita minta umat Islam berhati-hati, takut mereka tidak tahu ilmu yoga itu ke mana matlamat akhirnya dan ini mungkin boleh jadi membawa kepada kesesatan,” tegasnya.

Beliau menjelaskan, ini kerana dalam Islam terdapat tiga elemen yang boleh menjejaskan akidah iaitu keyakinan hati, pengakuan dengan lidah dan perbuatan.

Katanya, memandangkan sekurang-kurangnya terdapat dua elemen tersebut dalam amalan yoga, maka umat Islam wajib memelihara akidah mereka daripada terhakis.

Bagaimanapun, beliau menyatakan, fatwa tersebut tidak bermaksud untuk menghalang orang bukan Islam mengamalkan yoga kerana hak kebebasan mengamalkan kepercayaan agama mereka adalah dijamin di bawah Perlembagaan Persekutuan.

‘‘Fatwa yang dikeluarkan oleh Majlis Fatwa Kebangsaan hanya menjaga kepentingan dan akidah umat Islam dan pada peringkat ini, kita menggunakan pendekatan menasihat dan memaklumkan kepada umat Islam tentang pandangan Islam terhadap yoga.

‘‘Soal sama ada pandangan muzakarah akan dijadikan fatwa yang diwartakan, itu terpulang kepada kerajaan-kerajaan negeri dan dari segi penguatkuasaan, itu bukan bidang kita,'' katanya.

NO problem in overcoming the Fatwa ban on yoga - Just change the word yoga to aerobics, change the Yoga centres to aerobic centres or other names. Change the names of the yoga exercises to the 99 names of Allah.

A fatwā (Arabic: فتوى‎; plural fatāwā Arabic: فتاوى‎), in the Islamic faith is a religious opinion on Islamic law issued by an Islamic scholar. In Sunni Islam any fatwa is non-binding.

According to the usul al-fiqh (principles of jurisprudence), the fatwa must meet the following conditions in order to be valid:

1. The fatwa is in line with relevant legal proofs, deduced from Qur'anic verses and hadiths; provided the ahadith was not later abrogated by Muhammad.
2. It is issued by a person (or a board) having due knowledge and sincerity of heart;
3. It is free from individual opportunism, and not depending on political servitude;
4. It is adequate with the needs of the contemporary world.

This should settle the worries of some quarters.

The Islamic Authorities in Singapore had said it was alright for Muslims to do yoga as long as they do not go into the spiritual aspects.

Though the council's decisions are not legally binding on Malaysia's Muslim population, many abide by the edicts out of deference, and the council does have the authority to ostracize an offending Muslim from society.

The Malaysia fatwa reflects the growing strain of conservatism in Malaysia, which has always taken pride in its multi-ethnic population. About 25 percent of Malaysians are ethnic Chinese and 8 percent ethnic Indians, mostly Hindus.

Recently, the council issued an edict banning tomboys, ruling that girls who act like boys violate the tenets of Islam.

The Fatwa Council took up the yoga issue after an Islamic scholar last month expressed an opinion at a seminar that it was un-Islamic.

But yoga teacher Suleiha Merican, who has been practicing yoga for 40 years, called yoga "a great health science" and said there is no religion involved.

"We don't do chanting and meditation. There is no conflict because yoga is not religion based," Merican, 56, told The Associated Press.

There are no figures for how many Muslims practice yoga, but many yoga classes have a sprinkling of Muslims attending.

Putri Rahim, a housewife, said she was no less a Muslim after practicing yoga for 10 years.

"I am mad! Maybe they have it in mind that Islam is under threat. To come out with a fatwa is an insult to intelligent Muslims. It's an insult to my belief," Putri said.

In a recent blog posting, social activist Marina Mahathir criticized the council for even considering a yoga ban, calling it "a classic case of reacting out of fear and ignorance. CNN

The Minister of Home Affairs should use the ISA on the Fatwa Council for playing with the YOGA issue which is related to Hinduism. To the Hindu this is a sensitive issue. YOGA the HINDUS IS SACRED. If Islam does not allow muslimS to practice YOGA let it be so but it is very unbecoming the FATWA council to outrightly paint a bad picture of YOGA which is internationally acclaimed as one of the best form of exercise for Mind and Body. So the FATWA COUNCIL SHOULD STOP SMEARING THE GOOD NAME

If Yoga is fatwa simply because it did not come from Islam, Muslims should also be banned from traveling by cars or aeroplanes, wearing watches, coats or neck-ties, using western medicine when fall sick, eating roti canai or siew-mai or wanton, smoking cigarettes, playing golf, basket ball, badminton, using computers, MP3, PDA, mobile phones and so on as none of these things came from Islam.

In other words, those who declared that yoga is fatwa are stopping Muslims from progressing with times.

Yoga predates Islam and was well known in the ancient world even as far as Egypt. As such if Yoga was not acceptable to Muslims, it must have been stated as such in the Koran. So, what the Prophet sought not to exclude, our National Fatwa Council seeks to do. Wow, they must be holier the Prophet Himself.

I am not a muslim. Thus, I have no say and will not comment though I have tonnes and tonnes of objections towards this issue.

This Fatwa on yoga is yet another of the series of mindless statements (there have been lots of competition for the prize of the most mindless statement ever made by these people) for issued by the dogmatic religious authorities in Jakim. Again you see fallible humans playing the role God's interpreter as though they know the mind of God. There will be no end to human suffering unless these fanatics are banned from even taking any position of power.

Majlis Fatwa should be abolished or all of its members sacked and replaced by people of intellect and broad world view.

Now they ban yoga, next thing you know, gym workout is banned coz sweating causes your clothes to stick to your body, revealing your sexy curves. Or maybe jogging in public place will be banned because it makes your man-titties shake in a way that would turn on the girls. Oh behave...
