KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- DAP chairman Karpal Singh has demanded that Chief Justice Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi step down within seven days over Zaki's statement on corruption among court staff when he was a lawyer in 1987.

He said Zaki should not deny that he had uttered the words which were reported in the New Straits Times on Nov 8 as there was an audio recording of what he had said in Kuching the day before.

He said the clarification made by Zaki over the statement, which was reported in the same newspaper on Nov 9, did not constitute the truth.

Zaki was reported as saying that "it took me six months to be nice, bribe each and every individual to get back into their good books..."

"He is, therefore not a fit and proper person to hold the high office of Chief Justice," Karpal Singh told reporters at Parliament lobby here, Tuesday.

Karpal Singh said that in the event that Zaki did not step down within the seven-day period, he would move a motion against him under Article 127 of the Federal Constitution.

The article reads; The conduct of a judge of the Federal Court, the Court of Appeal or a High Court shall not be discussed in either House of Parliament except on a substantive motion of which notice has been given by not less than one quarter of the total number of members of that House, and shall not be discussed in the Legislative Assembly of any state.

Zaki should be out within three (3) days. He's just another arm of the BN-UMNO govt. Rats and snakes from the same pot.

So what's next in UMNO's list? Putting Shafee as the replacement for Gani Patail when he retires? smilies/cheesy.gif It's too telling isn't it? It's just another wrapper exchange of the already corrupted judiciary? smilies/cheesy.gif But the funny part is to put someone who is worst than the rest. smilies/cheesy.gif

So, Zaki is telling us that he bought the CJ seat!!!Money can buy everything in Malaysia, There is nothing impossible in Malaysia!!!So, if you want to win any court case, 'Just Pay'to the Judge!!! In that case, do we need the assistance of Lawyer to pray justice in court???

2 weeks back it was the Menteri in the PM's Department who misrepresented Parliament with his bold version of the 1988 judicial fiasco. Now the CJ finds himself under severe scrutiny on his own admission. These top men holding special positions are really good at shooting themselves on the feet. Maybe it could be their ego. Remember the adage 'justice must not only be done but seem to be done'? Looks like the CJ would not be able to uphold that notion with his own admission. To boot camp now, I suppose?

Look fellas, if they get rid of Zaki, there is gonna be someone just like him.
And if we get rid of this other person, there will be someone else and someone else...
This thing's never gonna end until we get rid of UMNO in the next election.
We've been waiting for 51 years, what is 4 more years?

If Zaki knew of the corrupt practices and kept silent over them, he definitely does not have the Integrity that is the hallmark of the Chief Justice, or the Lord President. Hence using impeccable logic, Zaki should resign within the week !

For the Chief Justice Zaki to come out and say that he had indeed gave out bribes during the days when he was in private practice, it certainly shows what kind of person he is.

How can a tainted person like this sits in the highest office of the judiciary?

We have so many lawyers and judges, are we saying we cannot find anyone more qualified? Is there no one qualified in law that has impeccable record of integrity? What an insult to the legal fraternity!

It is not just a matter of morality, it is an offence under the Anti-Corruption Act 1997 specifically clause 10 (b)
which reads "corruptly gives, promises or offers to any person whether for the benefit of that person or of another person".
The Bar Council should also take action to send out a strong message to all legal practitioners.
YB Karpal should have no problem garnering the support of the minimum 56 assemblymen to move the motion,
and it is hoped that the Speaker does not insult the nation by dismissing it as non-substantive.
We don't need a person of questionable moral standing as CJ, as it is we have already got a tainted IGP and AG.
