Kelantan MB against 'notion of Malay Supremacy' PDF Print

KOTA BARU: Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said he disagreed with the notion of Ketuanan Melayu (Malay Supremacy) because there are no race considerations in Islam.

He said it was important for all Muslims to be firm believers and practise the true teachings of Islam and not distorted versions, adding that Muslims who placed nationalism and race ahead of religion were “disillusioned followers.”

Islam is for Muslims regardless whether they are Malays, Chinese or Indians, he said.

“It is a religion above race. We cannot quantify race with Islam, such as Malays with Islam. There are also Chinese and Indian Muslims,” said the PAS spiritual adviser.

“Those who place race above religion are being brainwashed by western culture,” he said after launching the inaugural London Fish Tales fast-food outlet at the Tesco hypermarket here on Monday.

He also said that actions by certain Muslims who do not practise Islam faithfully were the root cause why the religion was not widely respected.

Before criticising non-followers, Muslims should first return to the true path of Islam as it would allow them to gain the respect of non-Muslims, besides upholding Islam’s true virtues.

Nik Abdul Aziz also said that both Muslims and non-Muslims should respect and follow the decrees (fatwas) issued by the National Fatwa Council as they represent the rulings of Allah.

“Allah’s decrees and decisions are final,” he said, adding that non-Muslim NGOs must refrain from criticising decisions made by the National Fatwa Council.

The Council has come under heavy criticism when it said it was studying whether to issue a fatwa against Muslims practising yoga.

YAB Nik Abdul Aziz,
The words spoken by a true Muslim. You are an inspiration to us all. Though I am not a Muslim, I have an immense respect for you and all that you believe in, Datuk. I am convinced that Islam teaches only good principles. If only those who profess to be Muslims, swearing on the Quran, can learn from the great Tuan Nik Abdul Aziz.

The spiritual adviser, Nik Aziz is right !

These ' Ketuanan Melayu ' preachers think that the whole country owe them and their generations a living.

Also, don't believe that they are true Muslims at all !

Does Nik Aziz believe in Ketuanan Islam? Ketuanan Islam is just the flip side of the same coin as Ketuanan Melayu.

Tok Aziz should remember that he banned Wayng Kulit in Kelantan saying that Muslims should not partake or be entertained by Hindu elements.

For over 500 years Muslims in Malaysia have been entertained by Wayang Kulit, it is part of their culture and history. It has even entered the language in the form of idiomatic phrases like Tok Dalang, Wayang Kulit etc. Malays should celebrate their Hindu past rather than self consciously trying to wipe it out and replacing it with Wahabi Arab culuture.

Does wearing a Dhoti or Sari make you a Hindu? Similarly watching Wayang Kulit with its timeless stories of morality and good triumphing over evil can never make anyone less Muslim.

Race and religion are inextricably linked. To say you treat races equally but disrespect their religion or mythology is simply not logical.

Political Islam must learn to trust peoples' good sense. You cannot legislate or impose morality.

MB Nik Aziz has spoken. He commands our respect. I was voted down when I had commented that we should respect the wishes of the Muslims when they told us not to interfere in their fatwas. Hopefully, the chapter can now be closed.

“Those who place race above religion are being brainwashed by western culture,”

This is most certainly a very wrong statement.

It should be, “Those who place race above religion are being brainwashed by UMNO - UMNO - UMNO culture.”

Western culture put a sharp distinction and separation between race and religion, and state and religion.

Well, sure and true, no race divide in Islam but also sure and true race divide exists in many Muslim communities. One such community is Malaysia where Malays believe they are 'super' racist than non-Malays (many of whom r Muslims).

However, after putting the dots on the i's I wonder what Tok Guru the much respected as he is would say about 'Muslim' political power in Malaysia. For as I understand it, many Muslims are currently striving to preserve 'Malay-Muslim' power.

I think what Nik Aziz said here does not change the facts in Malaysia. Is it not possible that Muslims and non-Muslims need to work together to 'change' Malaysia first? That is what we feel here. www.worldfutures.info

When the govt does not have a policy against racial discrimination, you know what it is praticising "RACIAL PROFILING & DISCRIMINATION" against its own people. Next Sudan in the making. Oh yes, the govt is the facilitator of racial discrimination too, just look at our school system on how the kids intergrate among the different races. I am so fed up with this discrimination, lack of national unity, no will to unite the people -- what a bunch of useless "leaders".

Proarte,

'“Those who place race above religion are being brainwashed by western culture,” he said after launching the inaugural London Fish Tales fast-food outlet at the Tesco hypermarket here on Monday'

Now isn't that statement racist, tainting Westerners with a ridiculous accusation. Western culture is charaterised on the whole by secularism where religion and politics are kept at a healthy distance. In the UK, where the Church of England is the 'official' religion, we do not hear the Speaker in parliament starting proceeedings with an extended Christian prayer. The reason is they have respect for other denominations and other religions.
_______________________________________________________ ______________________

My question will be..Where is nationalism or race-based country/movement started?..

The reason they have respect for other denominations and other religions..??..i think u should dig more bro..

1)Malaysian United,
Jurang antara luar bandar (majoritinya bumiputera) dan bandar (majoritinya bukan bumiputera) masih lebar dan bahkan selepas 51 tahun kemerdekaan ia masih banyak ruang untuk dibaiki.

Why is it still so after so many years of NEP? Doesn't this show the failure in its implementation? Who to blame for this predicament?
And as you said, majority of rural people are "bumiputera". What about the minorities, who are non-bumis? Aren't they human too? Aren't they Malaysians too?
Focus should be on those in need not on their race and religion.Period!!!
