ON 11 Nov 2008, the Prime Minister's Department answered a question about income distribution that I had submitted before the start of the current parliamentary session.

The reply was read by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department SK Devamany, who gave the following figures based on a 2007 Statistics Department survey of households:

help

The figures, if accurate, reveal several realities about our society. The first is that 38% of Malaysian families have a monthly household income of less than RM2,000. I believe that RM2,000 should be used as the poverty line and not the current unrealistic standard of RM720 per month for a family with three children. Only 5% of Malaysian families have a monthly household income of less than RM720.

All Msian ills comes from UMNO/BN leadership. They have been ruling for more than 50 yrs. How many yrs have S'pore gone on their own? Every economic area they are ahead of us. They have world class medical, universities etc and their PM is known everywhere. When I meet foreigners overseas, they don't know about Msia but when I mentioned Spore or Bangkok -- Yup they instantly know. We need to get rid of UMNO/BN quick for the sake of children's future.

UMNO dogs are playing numbers with us. They show numbers of people earning income. Why wouldnot they show % by asset/value owned. I believe Malays will be leading because all wealth of this Nation are in the hand of the few UMNOputras.

Change the title to "Helping the Poor in Malaysia". Don't the poor Indians, indigenous people, Chinese deserve help too ?? This despotic Govt. has always propagated policies which enrich the elite few and their cronies and policies like allowing foreign workers to work in Malaysia instead of raising the salaries of the Malaysian workers.

This obviously serves the big corporations, plantations etc. to make more profits by sourcing cheap labour.

What is the price ?? Malaysians lose jobs and have no chance to improve their income level through the natural market mechanism of supply & demand. Security in Malaysia has never been worse with so much crime being committed either by foreigh workers, or disenchanted unemployed Malaysians robbed of their jobs by this Govt. policy !!

The answer is simple. Stop multiplying like rabbits. India and China has done it and both are now powerful economies. When you have a govt. that constantly assures them that their interest will be looked after, what is there to worry> Just keep on producing babies as though it is very difficult to do.
Help the malays but at the same time put some constraints. Maybe each family only entitled to two or three children. You want more, pay for it

"...Stop multiplying like rabbits..."
-------------------------

the numbers are required by you-know-who plus the religion encourages propagation.
still, they do need to be fed so it is imperative that they be "taught to fish" properly.
is that being done?
the cycle is very vicious.

UMNO should send their Putris & Putras to go down to the grass root Malay families and tell their lazy grown up children to get a job instead of laying around the house bitching and moaning about not getting a share of the NEP. Work for your living and stop depending on handouts from the government.

No, no, no, guys - the Malays must be encouraged to produce more babies and Malay men take more wives. They must always be helped by the gomen and get free everything so that they can remain lazy, uncompetitive, with a lot of mouths to feed and a lot of family problems between the few wives and step-children to worry about. They must be told to champion Ketuanan Melyau and speak only one language - Melayu! NEP must be forever!

How otherwise can other race get ahead of them? If they have less children, only one wife, speak many languages, see a globalised world and become competitive and smart like us, HOW CAN WE STAY AHEAD OF THEM IN ALL FIELDS!

Let's keep encouraging them to do what they are doing, to believe in their UMNO leaders 101% and not to worry at all - just keep on enjoying life, sex and free handouts and shout "Ketuanan Melayu"!

Malays are born to be like all other human beings. They are not born handycapped. There are smart ones and also not so smart ones. When a family gets too big, the bringing up of the children suffers and this is happening to many malay households. Furthermore it is a universal happening all over the world that the rural agricultural sector forms the lower income group, whether they are in Malaysia, USA or China. Therefore many have migrated from the rural regions to the urban and industrial centres to seek for better income opportunities in all countries. So the malays reside mostly at the rural areas and have large families. This is not conducive to prepare the family for better living and economic wellbeing. The government has taken some actions to alleviate the adverse conditions facing this group of malays but a more long term and sustainable solution to uplift their economic plight must be found so that they can compete as an equal in the future globalised world. This group must be made to realise that in order to succeed, they must be productive and self sustaining in the long run. The affirmative discriminating policies of the government in apportioning the taxpayers' money and opportunities to them without addressing the proper need to prepare this lower income group to be competitive economically will have an adverse effect to the economic wellbeing of the country as a whole because available resources will be diminishing without bringing productive results to replenish them. The rampant corruption in the administration and the selfish greed of the ruling party will inflict further drain to the limited resources. The continuing of such a scenario will make the country backward as the future progress. So how long can we last before the country being left in a dire situation when the economy cannot be managed anymore?

Why only mention helping Malay poor? smilies/angry.gif What of Indian and Chinese poor?
Anyway, one of piority to help poor is to have fair reasonable wages in various sectors of industries! Then work towards ensuring that that children of poor is provided all facilities in education. As it is they are yet many children of poor who are not going to school at all! Then look into the aids that can be given to poor families to uplift their living standard! But as it is, some will just have to remain as poor for various uncontrollable reasons. eg. unable to learn new skills due to age, sickness etc.

The key to poverty is to have many children. Most people in Bodohland don't care for quality; they don't know quality, only quantity.

Just look at developed countries; their population growth is so low; most families have only one or two kids at the most, but they live well on their income. You don't see 3 toddlers squeezed between husband & wife on a honda cub in a city like Tokyo. But in Bodohland this is very common sight.

Malaysia is very much a third-world country inspite of its petronas twin towers & bmws on our roads: we are no better than Indonesia or Philippines. The poor multiplies like rabbits, they are backward, ignorant, and they are the majority. The filthy rich becomes richer while the poor are grateful if the govt gives them RM150 per month.

I apologise if I offended anyone with the truth;it's time someone reaches out to the folks in the kampungs & educate them.. they need to face reality.

The numbers should be more than these..
I dont know how many people still remember about the birth rate of the malays 25 years ago.
He even ask the malays to have more babies but never ask them whether they can feed them or who is going to feed.
thats is the problem now.

Would be helpful to see some trends over time, to understand the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of the NEP, and conditions of the non-NEP eligible malaysians as well.

Would be good to see how and if the capital allocations and social engineering strategies are dysfunctional or effective - nobody should be left behind.

If these numbers are published by the incumbent administration, there is a credibility issue on the data.
