PRESS STATEMENT - Release of Raja Petra Kamarudin PDF Print

The release of Raja Petra Kamarudin from ISA detention is a victory for the people of Malaysia.  In its ruling against the Home Ministry, the High Court of Shah Alam has exposed yet another crack in the steadily eroding wall of justification surrounding the ISA.

I commend the courts which have come to the rescue, as they must do, when citizens are rendered helpless before arbitrary authority and its inclination to the abuse of power.  It is through the judge’s commitment to justice that Raja Petra will once again experience the freedom that is the birthright of all Malaysians.

This episode underscores the fact that the government of the day is unfit to lead. By the sheer arrogance of its perceived grip on power, it has failed to recognise and respond to the Malaysian people’s desire for democracy, freedom and adherence to the rule of law.

Those BN leaders and particularly cabinet members who expressed staunch support of the ISA should feel remorse
over the hardship that has been foisted upon Raja Petra, his family and the many others still detained without hopes of trial.

To those members of Parliament who have been silent in response to Pakatan Rakyat’s efforts to initiate a debate on abolishing the ISA, I urge you to reconsider your position. The Court's decision today offers a new opportunity to work together to rid Malaysia of this unjust law once and for all.

Many others still languish in prison under the draconian ISA, including members of Hindraf and individuals allegedly involved with radical groups such as Jemaa Islamiyah.  They all deserve the right of judicial review.
I reiterate my call for their immediate release and that any credible charges against them should be made in a court of law.

ANWAR IBRAHIM

It is only fitting that Syed the balded be put under ISA . He is the cause of all this problem. For those who are wrongly detained, now its the right time to redeem themselves and sue those idiots for acting above the law. Dont give them a chance !

The Court has categorically conclude that RPK detention is UNLAWFUL anmd UNCONSTITIUTIONAL and the Government must come out to make some shrt yet simple statement over the cour ruling. RPK release is not that simple or the end of the episode of events. The wrongful detention does not augurs well with future detention decision. The police investigating papers is untruthful and the HM is ignorant and deluded in mind matter. There are numerous other cases that HM detained Actually HM thought he could run away with his action to be of service to Najib. Remember that the Rakyat is more intellectual now and the old mindset of governing is obsolete. RPK has to be compansated through a civil suit. I hope RPK is not going to keep quiet. RPK is a Nation Royal Hero stickingout his nect for the sake of Principle

I have no quarrel with H, but are we really sure that we wanted to free this "Jemaa Islamiyah" bunch? with history of shoddy investigation works by our police force, I'm 110% sure that the case against them are not going to make it to full trial.

we all know that the current government is incompetent. looks like we have to wait for the next general election to vote them out unless DSAI, as you have given us hope, do something, to maneuver them out before the next GE.

pls. let us know whether that's the still the cause for PR and we, the thinking rakyat will support all we can. only when the current government is changed can we expect a fair government and hopefully addresses all the inconsistency and wrongdoing that BN is doing now. only then, will we truly have merdeka and DSAI and PR can persecute those who abuses their position and power and to abolish ISA and free or at least trial them in the court of law.

yesterday was very tiring, with many other MT family members, we wait from 8am, before the case starts, till 3.20 pm when RPK was released. For once, i believe JUSTICE PREVAILED. Very very happy. Just uploaded the pics, don't just sit in front of the PC, go to PJ this sunday, more activities was planned, with the BERSIH anniversary, i don't know whether RPK will be there, but anyhow i will go.

Friday 7th of November 2008 was indeed a wonderful day for most freedom loving and democratic thinking Malaysians. It was a day when RPK was released from the notorious Malaysian Guantanamo camp called Kamunting. Ordinary Malaysians sincerely hope RPK's case will lead the way for the rest of detainees to be freed in the not to distant future. Well done RPK. As Malays and Muslims always believe every sickness has its cure. Yours was revealed on Friday 7th November 2008. May Allah reward you and your family for your great efforts to teach feudal Malays how to behave and live decently in the 21st century. Amin

I find it blady ridiculous. Our system allows a filthy migrant to put a Malaysian royal prince behind bars in our own country, and more incredible is that this filthy migrant has the sole power to jail, without trial or any rights of defense for any Malaysians, including a Prince, according to his whims and fancies. Apa dah jadi.
