KHALID: More than 20 apply for PKNS GM's post PDF Print

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said more than 20 people have applied to fill the vacant general manager’s post at the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

He said the applications came from Bumiputera professionals, PKNS senior officers and those from subsidiary companies.

“It is time the Malays choose the best to manage PKNS to ensure good returns while helping Bumiputeras to progress in construction and commerce,” he said at the 3rd convocation of Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL) in Bestari Jaya near here today.

He added the appointment of Low Siew Moi as acting general manager would not become an issue if 99 percent of PKNS staff were serious in developing Bumiputeras in commerce.

“Seventy percent of all the contracts directly or indirectly go to non-Bumiputeras when they (the Malays) are managing things and shouting we need to fight for Bumiputeras.

“The end result was that they (Bumiputeras) never get them. This is an embarrassing story but there are a lot of comedians inside there.” Abdul Khalid said he would make the Malays especially PKNS staff wake up from their slumber and meet the big task of helping their race.

“The Malays are happy and sleeping soundly with just 18 percent (Bumiputera equity),” he added.

It is high time, we Malaysian move away from the "racist" mind-set. Let us starting filling positions with the person best-suited for the job. IF an organisation is well-managed, everyone benefits.

If everything is looked from the point of "race" or ethnic origin, in no time we will go belly-up. The outcome is that everyone will suffer. Make your choice! You want all to benefit irrespective of race as long as its Malaysian and people on the soil of Malaysia. Or everyone to suffer.

Alas, there are times that things like this have quietly crept into our lives as a norm. Out of the blue, there are public organizations that are reserved for Malays to lead which causes private organizations to "reserve" their top positions for others.

Malaysia cannot be about yours or mine but a collective ours. It is so sad that when we are overseas, we proudly represent ourselves as Malaysians but the reality is totally the opposite when back in the country. We're still harping on issues which were raised 40 years back because they were not fixed or they are still required albeit imaginary to enforce the so-called control over others.

When Malaysia becomes bigger and better, the cake will be much larger so that everybody can have a larger slice without such in-fighting. The best must lead so that the rest can benefit. When will we ever come to that? When will we ever see a stop to such childish in-fighting and become mature to stand tall amongst the world? When will we wake up and realize the rest of the world has passed us by and yet we harp on age old issues which have been overtaken by world events?

Why not simply attract the best Malaysian brain (instead of just Malay) for the next GM of PKNS ?

Why not invite applications from ALL MALAYSIANS ?

Is this what our MB in Selangor said?? If it is, then I am most disappointed over the statement. To me, this is a racist statement. As a MB for all races, I should say he have to open the vacancy for all races based on merit. smilies/sad.gif smilies/sad.gif

That's the problem with UMNO elite members who worship the MT. They are the one who make the whole issue wrt [MALAY]. Look at all the project given to the Bumi..who are the sub-con. Mostly non-bumi. Why because the BUMI actualy ALI-BABAs. They are hapy to have the so call up-front deal/commission couppled with the 18% equity.
Look at the O&G contractors, PETRONAS already given 100% registered and licensed companied with 100% BUMI equity. What else does the West Malaysia MALAYs want. They even tall all the PETRONAS Contract and supplies in SABAH & SARAWAK. Even the new SOGT in Kimanis the Interested Minister want to be the channeled of contractors registration. Apa Lagi.. Balak sudah, Oil Sudah Gas Sudah, Boutenical garden sudah, Putrajaya maintenance sudah...Tong Sampah pun sudah. Masih tak cukup. Tapi bukan BUMI dari Sabah & Sarawak tetapi Malays with Datuk, Datu, Tan Seri as CEO of the Contractors'.

I think those 20 applicants are not suitable for the job. The state government must find other initiatives and pick up a candidate that met the criteria that can lead PKNS for a better future.

You guys cant even force yourself into not using racial statements.

Why cant you simply say:

He said the applications came from professionals, PKNS senior officers and those from subsidiary companies.

In fact why do you have to say who the applications came from!

As I said before ... send all the applications back with a registration number and ask them to present an application which makes it impossible to identify their race... no names, no ic numbers... nothing

Then have the appointment made by a truly independent ( non malaysian?)appointment agency

For the rest of the world globalisation has Indians holding high positions in America, Australians holding high positions in Singapore etc etc etc... ad infinitum

In Malaysia where mediocrity rules, salaries are abysmal and decisions are made on race. No professional worth his salt would apply and NOTHING and NOBODY gains

At least his govt. is going through the proper vetting process in choosing the right person. The former administration would probably pick one of their own without regard for qualifications and capability.
