If you weren't at the candlelight vigil for RPK at the padang in front of Amcorp Mall, PJ, last Sunday the 26th, then you please consider joining us next Sunday.
Folks had from come from Singapore, Johor Bahru, Seremban, Ipoh. Two weeks ago, my sister and her husband had driven from Bentong. Speaking of which, Haris Ibrahim couldn't make it that evening on account of a court hearing he had in Kuantan, according to Zorro. | Zorro presided over the vigil. He's a natural, just up and took control of the situation and organised the evening for all of us. Hishamuddin Rais--yet another graduate of University Kamunting, I hadn't realised there were so many--was among the first to speak. |
Marina was in high spirits. When she touchingly related how easily the tears would flow whenever the family visits RPK in Kamunting, my eyes welled up too. Nov 7th at the Shah Alam high court, the decision on PRK's second habeas corpus hearing will be delivered; there's that chance that the man may be freed then--be there, Marina told us. Keep up with your prayers, too, please.
Charles Santiago, Klang MP, was among a couple of ADUNs present that night. He'd just returned from some international conference in China where he got participants from various countries to sign a petition for the repeal of the ISA. Good on you, Charles.
I didn't catch the name of this other ADUN, who assured us of our safety as the padang belongs to the municipal and we have control of the state. Yoohoo!
Catholic priest, Father Lim gave a short, rousing speech in spite of his cough. He said the ISA goes against the tenets of all religions. Sounds familiar? That’s because that’s what RPK has been telling us too, hasn’t he?
Helen Ang led us in a song.
There were others, like this young Dylaneque protest songster.
The crowd was about 300 strong. In view of the fair weather I'd hoped for more but I suppose some could have been out of town because of the long Deepavali weekend.
Still, a good cross-section of the people were there...
...young ones...
...older ones...
...intent ones...
...foxy ones...
...we are all with RPK.
See you next week, same time, same place.
