PUTRAJAYA (TheStar): A group of Members of Parliament turned up at the Prime Minister’s Office here on Friday to hand over the first batch of signatures in support for a motion to discuss repealing the Internal Security Act (ISA).

The five Pakatan Rakyat members -- Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan and Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng of the DAP, Selayang MP William Leong and Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne of PKR, and Kota Raja MP Dr Siti Maria Mahmud of PAS -- arrived at the office around 11.10am.

The signatures were handed over to the Premier’s senior private secretary, Datuk Ahmad Yaakob.

Earlier, Fong called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to be compassionate and release all those currently detained under the ISA.

“Since he will be our PM for not much longer, he should be compassionate and think of the ISA detainees’ family members. Release the five Hindraf members and let them spend Deepavali with their family,” she said.

Fong also said it was wrong to arrest the group of Hindraf (Hindu Rights Action Force) supporters outside the PM’s office on Thursday as they were merely delivering a letter to Abdullah.

“They were just using a platform to voice their grievances,” she said.

So far, a total of 85 MPs -- 81 from the Opposition, a backbencher and three independents -- have signed in support of the motion to discuss repealing the ISA.

Who's the lone ranger from the backbenchers? I bet he's not from MCA or Gerakan. The cowards have gone back into their shells now that party election is over.

Good that is more than the 1/3rd or minimum 74 mps required to table it for discussion.

Noted that all 81 Mps of Pakatan supported it.

To repeal or amend the ISA will however need minimum support of 112 MP's,
the way the DNA bill was pushed thru I have my doubts.
that means still short of 27 MP's (assuming all 85 keep their pledge)
There are 61 non UMNO BN Mps who can easily make up the shortfall of 27.
Your constituents are watching what you do , and will punish you at the ballot box next elections if you toe the barisan whips line.
Remember according to some polls 85% of Malaysians want it either ammended or abolished.

You have been warned, so make the right choice.

While we are encouraged a little by the above article, more needs to be done. Such urgency is needed to defeat this monster we detest. What vile human can subject another to incarceration without being heard and before the truth is established? If Malaysia is peaceful and civilized how can we tolerate this weapon against humanity? We should say the sooner we rid this curse, the better. We say lawmakers do more and do it swiftly.

Where are the MCA & GERAKAN MPs ? Thought they have been talking about NO TO ISA ?

Action is better than a thousand words. Just a simple action of signing the letter & they already failed, what else can one expect ??

Well, if they support ISA for party or personal interest, their supporters better think carefully. Any human with the right mind should never support the use of ISA !

I think the opposition is doing the BN a good turn now because if PR will to take over power alot of Bn idiots will be detain under ISA. Since they do not want to do away with it than let them taste the same medicine they wanted so much . May you idiots get your death wish.

No, I don't believe either Hakim Joe. Just want to let those Drama Kings know that we rakyat are not blind nor forgetful, we remember what they said, & do check on their action. Of course there's one thing we feel very helpess, we don't know how to make their skin "thinner" & make them feel ashame of their thought, deed & action. Just in case anyone of them read MT. smilies/wink.gif
