In 2001, ten reformasi activists were detained by the police under the ISA, amongst them Ezam Mohd Noor, Tien Chua, Raja Petra, Abdul Ghani Haroon and N Gobalakrishnan. Habeas corpus applications were filed, challenging their detentions for being groundless and in bad faith as the detainees were in no way threats to national security.

In the order of things, the applications of Ghani Haroon and Gobalakrishnan came up before Justice Hishamuddin Yunus who was then a judge at the Shah Alam High Court. A team of lawyers led by R Sivarasa presented their case and as the issues involved were complex, the Judge reserved his decision to a later date to give himself more time to fully consider the submissions and the law.

It was decided by the team that I would appear before Justice Hishamuddin on the day he was due to deliver his decision. If the decision was favourable, I was to obtain a statement from both Ghani Haroon and Gobalakrishnan as to what had happened during their detention by the police. The detainees had not been permitted to see their lawyers from the time they were detained. Five of the other eight detainees had had their habeas corpus applications disallowed by Justice Augustine Paul, then of the Kuala Lumpur High Court, and his decision was under appeal to the Federal Court. Any information I could get was relevant to whether the police had acted in bad faith and would be of great significance to the appeal.

The team was however concerned that should the court free Ghani Haroon and Gobalakrishnan, they would be rearrested as soon as they stepped out of the courthouse. This was not an unknown occurrence, Karpal Singh having been famously rearrested upon his being granted habeas corpus in 1987.

Flight MH 21 from Paris landed on time at 6:30 am,KLIA.
Passed through customs and immigration speedily without any hassle.Inspect some of my wines bought in Paris hoping that I will part some to them but, shit ,they won't get a drop from me,parasites.
Push my trolley pass the crowd to where my good friend Kamal is waiting.
Nice to be back after a long flight. Now rushing to pass some wines to Marina and later to meet up with some friends at mid valley.

Ahmadneil,

We strongly appreciate what you are doing. We also want to send the murderers of Altantuya to Hell. Please be cautious and do not give too much details of your whereabouts or destination for the "idiots and cowards" to trace you or even try to stop your trip to Ulaan Baatar. Do take care as we do not want to lose another brother to that forsaken place called Kamunting.

There is definitely a war on right now and it's always good to hear from the trenches, Ahmad. I await further action on MT. The BN cybertroopers recently recruited a freelance hitman who operates a blog called Demi Negara. His main target is MT - and friends and admirers of RPK! Writes quite well. Sounds like another Saruman - soul ensnared by the lure of Najis, Lord of the Flies.

Justice ?? In Malaysia ?? Wah ha ha ha ha ha ha ! It does not exist here in Malaysia and to join the Unscrupulous Moronic Nazi Organization, the members need to undergo orientation where they must prove that they can't spell the word "Justice" before becoming full-fledged members !!

You bring up hope that RPK can be freed.
Thank you for sharing that first hand account with us.
It warms the heart when all we have been having is cold water poured over over head.
Best wishes for the hearing tomorrow, may RPK get a just hearing before a fair and impartial judge.
