KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 - All Pas central working committee members and the highly influential Religious Scholars Consultative Council are scheduled to discuss the perceived split in the party next month when they meet in Langkawi.

The last time the two highest decision making bodies in Pas met was in July this year when the issue of cooperation with Umno surfaced, after a series of secret meetings between Pas and Umno leaders were leaked to the media.

The Malaysian Insider understands that the retreat scheduled for Nov 7 to 9 will discuss among others, the insistence of some Pas leaders that the Pakatan Rakyat federal government must be backed by a Muslim-majority among its lawmakers.

A Pas official confirmed that the 35 members of the two bodies will go for the retreat but said that the party is still working on the details for the meeting.

The idea to organise the retreat was first mooted after a public spat between Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat and Pas election director Datuk Mustafa Ali over the Islamist party's support to Anwar's plan to topple the BN government.

A little over half of Pakatan Rakyat's legislators are now Muslim, and there is concern among Pas that a new government could be dominated by non-Muslims, depending on who potentially defects from Barisan Nasional (BN).

Last month, Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and the party's spiritual advisor, Nik Aziz to discuss the issue of racial and religious composition in the new Pakatan Rakyat government.

Necessary to have all possible kinks ironed out before taking over the Govt. Looks like PAS is maturing and solving all issues through discussions and meetings, unlike the UMNO gangsters, hammering one another !!

Best to settle all concerns and leave no stone unturned before the power transition !!

It is natural for the newly wed family to encounter teething problems, especially when 3 children they have are adopted. What more could the parents say but to accomodate the likes and dislikes of the kids. Each adopted child has his different temperament, and characters, that's where and when the home is filled with the sound of children crying and fighting. Seconds later, they patch up, and their relationships are as good as gold.

That is how Pakatan copes with the new parties. There are bound to be some differences. As long as they are willing to deal with any situation, there should not be indication that the family is having big problem. If either one of the parties is having undesolved problem, we have to learn to cope with each others differences. That is where the beauty lies: to meet each other half way and have a firm handshake, all shall end well with a fat smiles...

May God bless the newly- wed family, and may their future shines brightly like the stars in the sky.....

Pas, if you are reading this, please listen carefully.

PKR is aware that your Trengganu MPs cannot be counted upon. It is this that has caused a delay in taking over the govt. The other Pas MPs are rock solid in their support of Pakatan and the takeover of the govt.

PKR has enough Barisan MPs to cross over and form the govt WITHOUT the Pas Trengganu MPs' support.

For Pas not to support the Pakatan govt is to force a split, lose Nik Aziz and Kelantan, and nearly all the west coast MPs. Take your pick!

Freedom to speak,

As your pseudonym suggests, you value free speech. Let PAS have their pow-wow and free speech session with one another, too. We have to respect that some of them want to bring in the religious issues, and as a democracy we should allow that to be discussed. As long as our Civil Rights for all are not trampled upon, let us see if we can live harmoniously together with what they finally work out at their retreat ...

Chill out guys till we know their conclusion and direction for sure ...

Freedom to speak.

I totally agreed with you. In politic, we should be colour and religious blind just like our dear RPK. Does it really matter what race or religion he belongs to if our leaders are all RPK alike? I’m a non-Muslim but I whole heartedly supported the course of RPK for a just and fair Malaysia.
In my humble opinion, I just feel PAS cannot be trusted and their marriage of convenience to PR was just a stepping stone to grab power of federal government. Only time will tell.

I dont really trust DAP or PKR either for that matter but am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and isnt freedom of speech about voicing out your opinions without sweeping the issues that you favor under the carpet ?

Like BN components have been doing with AMNO for the past few centuries ?
