Take a look at this statement . Made by senior UMNO leaders. Leave it to Pak Lah to decide when he wants to leave. So they say. Fair enough. But the thing is Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has in fact decided . He want to leave in 2010.( ok he also said he might leave a bit earlier). That's his decision. However, despite that we keep hearing UMNO leaders saying Abdullah should be free to decide when he should leave but he should review the 2010 time frame .Then we hear Abdullah repeating himself, followed by the UMNO leaders repeating themselves. And it goes on and on. When will it end? Will it ever end?
Now take a look at this one. Don't over blow the transition issue, say the same UMNO leaders. To the media. At the same time , they can't help but talk about the "need for Pak Lah to listen to the grassroots". Thus the need for him to review the 2010 hand over plan. This they tell to the media very often at the slightest chance. But it's the media who are making a big thing out of the transition plan. It's the media's fault. Blame the media thing is nothing new. The media is afterall the "easiest" and the most "convenient" scapegoat. Some how the media this time was blameless , at least in this particular issue. Consider this .The media ,quoting sources, reported that several UMNO supreme council members had in no uncertain terms spoke on the need for the party president to make an early exit. The "attack" on Abdullah was reported to have happened during the last UMNO supreme council meeting recently . But before the blame the media game could be used, Pemuda chief Hishamuddin Hussein took a swipe at fellow council members for leaking to "people outside" of what transpired in closed door party meetings. That gave credence to what the media had reported. It "proved" that the media reports on the "proceedings" of the supreme council meeting were true. A few days later another party senior leader Muhamad Mohamad Taib went on record and labelled those who leak party information "traitors". Dr. Mahathir Mohamad joined in. He blogged about the "angry words at the supreme council meeting " . No blame the media game this time. The media it seem, got lucky. Or were they allowed to get lucky ?
