When (it appears less of an “if” now) Anwar Ibrahim takes over the government, he will face the monumental twin problems of undoing the damage wrecked upon our institutions as well as containing the inevitable implosion of UMNO.

Failure in either would effectively doom Anwar, Pakatan, and Malaysia. The good news is that both challenges could be handled simultaneously through the same strategy, and with the subsequent success benefiting all.

The blight on our institutions and governmental machinery, as well as the urgent need to rectify it, is well appreciated. Less recognized is the need to manage UMNO’s certain breakup.

For those who venture that UMNO’s fate is the least of Anwar’s (or our) concern, consider this. The tumultuous and unpredictable demise of the Soviet System may have ended the Cold War, but the world paid a severe price, one that could have been mitigated had the breakup been more orderly.

The world is still paying the price. There is the recurring nightmare that the Soviet’s old nuclear warheads might fall into unscrupulous hands. Those still unconvinced of the price being paid, just ask the Georgians and Ukrainians.

UMNO dominated Malaysia for over half a century; its implosion too will have unpredictable fallouts. If not skillfully managed, the consequences on Malaysia would be on a scale similar to that inflicted on Eastern Europe by the collapse of the Soviets.

I , too , do not consider 916 a failure because I have not expected it to succeed.
But Bakri's upbeat assessment is tonic for a wary soul when everything seems to be going against PR way, when Najib seem to just need to pick up the PM's post when he chooses to do so.
So, perhaps, RPK's stay at Kamunting shall, yet, be a short one.

Dear ppl, whatever the case, the corrupt ruling party in power will have to be taken down!
They're at it again to cause unrest!
You can see slowly they are making a move to instigate people against each other and watch from the sidelines pretending to be heroes to save the day!
Slowly , issues a brought up to stir sentiments!
Whatever actions taken leads to suspicion.
The Ampang Temple/Shrine demolition: Who gave the final order? is it the state or federal rep? Who is responsible and wy?
Last Saturday's Hindraf plus NGO gathering against ISA, why all of a sudden Police was sooo lenient? Did they expect some parties to retaliate and cause trouble enough to call for emergency rule?
Why RPK was captured and still retained despite all protest, are they trying to force more people to take it to the streets?
Why MIC is suddenly supporting Hindraf 5 release, who are they trying to provoke and for whom (obvious answer but then we leave it to people to guess)
Why Gerakan taking up issue of leaving BN Now?
and many many more subtle and yet coordinated effort if you ask me!

I just hope Malaysians will not fall in their trap!
Let UMNO go out of AMMO and self destruct. We shall focus on Nation building.
PR, be true to yourself and if you are REALLY taking over, do it and lead us through this ordeal. Get yourself organised and weed out all possible trouble makers before taking over!
Take time, but make it work!

An UMNO that has imploded is extremely dangerous and damaging for the country. Can you imagine the likes of Dato Ahmad Ismail of the 'pendatang" fame running loose and without control? Yes, we can say the new PR Govt., if it materialises, can throw the book at people like him but there will be many like him from an imploded UMNO. How many can you stop without creating a backlash? These people has for a long time depended on UMNO and the BN Govt for their gravy train and when that is removed, they will stop at nothing to try to regain it. Signs of that kind of behaviour can already be seen in Penang and Selangor where UMNO/BN has lost power. After 51 years of political patronage, the mental psyche of these people are incapable of handling this loss.
