KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Former MCA Vice president Datuk Chua Jui Meng who is vying for the MCA president's post in the party's polls next month, in revealing his election manifesto today, among others called upon the Barisan Nasional (BN) to maintain only the poverty eradication aspect of the New Economic Policy (NEP).

He said the reason for this was that after 38 years since the NEP was introduced, the Malay middle class was now large and securely established.

"The need for the NEP therefore no longer exists, and the Constitutional rights of all Malaysians should be restored," he said during his manifesto launch here today.

He also wanted the National Economic Consultative Council (NECC-3) to be established next year to tackle economic challenges.

Other matters he would fight for he said were upholding freedom of religion, restoring independence of the judiciary and equal access to educational opportunities.

Chua is now speaking what have been the demands of all non-bumiputras over the years even when he was in the government.
Yes, like Anwar we understand he was incapable of verbalising those views then.
So, it's still better late than never.
On this basis I hope he get elected but let him not forget these views if he wins!

I bet within days there will be widespread protest from Amno Youth and proAmno NGOs over this.

Probably MCA leaders will say his statements were twisted and keep quiet thereafter. NEP will continue for another 20 years; Amno puteras will control Malaysia politics frm SAfrica and AustZL; and Malaysia will become 3rd world country.

That's Malaysia destiny.

IF only poverty eradication of NEP to remain, there is no reason to have the NEP at all!! OK. You need to make the message less controversial and don't invite attack from the crazies. Sheesh at the very least, he could have pointed it out...

Dear Ahmadneil,

I salute you for you stand. That should be the way as mentioned in one of Malay Proverb "Duduk Sama Rendah, Berdiri Sama Tinggi. That should be the actual spirit of all the Malaysian.

We the Melayu Baru, Cina Baru, India Baru and our other brothers and sisters in Sabah and Sarawak should take this as a challenge and prove to everybody asspecially to UMNO and BN that the NEP policy no longer relevant to our society. Good luck to all of ussmilies/smiley.gif

I am sorry that I actually spent some time reading this piece of political rubbish.

Ah Meng, you are asking the rich cronies to donate all their wealth to charity and help people. Abolishing NEP means abolishing those cronies' main source of income. Will they do that? Dont be stupid ok. You are no different from Ong brothers' NATO style. NATO - No Action Talk Only.

Helping the poor is the responsibility of any government but do not use term such as NEP to manipulate the people.Every poor family has to be helped regardless of color and creed, but please do not help certain group of business men to further enrich them.Business people should be able to compete with each other and the authority should not be involved in deciding who gets what.
