KUALA LUMPUR (NST) : Malaysia Today owner and blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin was sent to Kamunting Detention Centre in Perak this morning to begin his two-year detention under the Internal Security Act after the Home Ministry issued an order under Section 8 of the Act, signed by the Home Minister yesterday evening.
This was confirmed by Raja Petra's wife Marina Lee Abdullah at the courthouse this morning. Marina said she was informed by Bukit Aman's DSP Ibrahim through a phone call at 9am.
Marina also said no decision was made on her husband's submission of habeas corpus today. She said judge Suraya Othman had ordered that Raja Petra submit a written submission to be heard on Oct 28.
Raja Petra, 58, was picked up at his house in Sungai Buloh at 1.10 pm on Sept 12. He was reportedly detained in the wake of various statements published in his blog “Malaysia Today".
On the day of his arrest, Raja Petra’s wife Marina Lee Abdullah said 10 policemen came to the house and detained her husband at 1.10pm and took him away at 1.50pm.
