SOME sections of the Malaysian society are making claims that the majority of the rakyat are rejecting racial and communal politics.
It is also claimed that the rakyat want public policies that are based on merits rather than racial background. Malaysians are thought to want a true two-party system. If indeed this is true, it would mean that Malaysia is ready to look beyond what divides her people and that the rakyat are prepared to unite as one. The leaders of our political parties must seize this opportunity to reform the political, social, educational and financial systems in Malaysia to reflect the wishes of the majority for a Malaysian Malaysia. Disband and de-register all political parties that are racially or religiously based. All parties within the Pakatan coalition should be merged as one and Barisan Nasional must also do the same with all component parties merging into one political party. Enact laws that forbid the existence of political parties that divide along racial and religious lines. True democracies outlaw discrimination based on race, religion or sex. Since it is claimed that the majority of the rakyat (including the Malays) do not want to continue with government policies that provide special position for the Malays, then those policies should also be abolished. In order to realise true integration, all educational facilities including schools, colleges and universities must be multiracial. There must be only one education system in our public schools. The medium of instruction must be Bahasa Malaysia which is the National Language. To improve our competitiveness, English must be the medium of instruction for Science and Mathematical subjects all the way up to tertiary levels. As China is emerging as a superpower, the learning of Mandarin should be made mandatory for all students for strategic reasons, as well as a tool for our own national integration. Incidences of absurd actions like putting up road signages in four languages or political speeches referring to other races apart from your own in an unsavoury way must be stopped. If all races are prepared to make these sacrifices for the good of Malaysia and her people, only then do I really see a chance of a united Malaysia overcoming the divisions of race, language and religion. If, however, the call for meritocracy, equal opportunities and re-negotiating of the social contract as enshrined in our Constitution is merely to get the Malays to relinquish what they have whilst the non-Malays get to keep theirs, then the political ideals and ideologies that they seem to be propagating are just hypocritical ploys. Your views are very forward thinking and will prepare our country to greater heights. If only every Umno idiot could think like you (which is essentially like Onn Jaafar) we would be far ahead of Singapore. Unfortunately people like Mahathir a/l Mohamed Iskandar Kutty, Kerismuddin, Najib and other racists twisted the minds of the Malay, held on to power and held this nation for ransom for the last 50 years or so.
