They say those who forget history are doomed to repeat its mistakes. In light of the recent sabre-rattling by those in Umno and the warning by the Armed Forces Chief, Malaysia Today feels compelled to republish an old article by Raja Petra Kamarudin that was published in Harakah on 24 September 1999.

NO HOLDS BARRED

Raja Petra Kamarudin

This is Part One of an article I wrote almost nine years ago, which was published in Harakah, the official media organ of the Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS). History is not something that should remain buried. History is something that should be a lesson to all or us so that we do not repeat the mistakes made by those before us.

In 1968, Umno fanned racial sentiments in a bid to 'unite' the Malays under its banner. Umno realised that the Malays were abandoning it in droves and it needed an issue to reunite the Malays. Further to that, the Prime Minister was being blamed for what Umno perceived as a loss of Malay support and the Young Turks in Umno wanted to also use this issue to pressure the Prime Minister into resigning.

Twenty years later, in 1988, Umno again went into turmoil with the emergence of Team A and Team B, which eventually split into Umno Baru and Semangat 46. Again, just like twenty years before that, the Malays had become disillusioned with the Umno leadership and there was a danger that Umno would suffer the same fate it did in 1969 if the general election was called.

The Umno leadership very cleverly got the Umno Youth and MCA Youth leaders to raise racial issues and bring the country to the brink of another ‘May 13’. This was when that infamous gathering at the TPCA padang in Kampong Baru was held and when Najib Tun Razak, the Umno Youth Leader, raised the keris and threatened to bathe it in Chinese blood.

Of course, this second ‘May 13’ never happened. What did happen instead was that Operasi Lalang was launched and more than 100 opposition leaders and activists were detained under the Internal Security Act. Najib and the MCA Youth Leader, Lee Kim Sai, however, were spared detention, although they were the two main players in the whole episode.

The ploy did not quite succeed though. In the 1990 general election, half the Malays swung to the opposition and Umno lost most of the Malay heartland to Semangat 46 and PAS.

Twenty years on and history is, again, being repeated. It appears like every twenty years Umno takes the country to the brink of a race riot in its effort to 'unite' the Malays and to ensure that it does not lose Malay support. And the 8 March 2008 general election, as well as the recent Permatang Pauh by-election, is proof that Umno has lost Malay support.

“The current situation is a repeat of 1969,” said Umno in its brainstorming session held at the Umno headquarters to conduct a post-mortem of the election results. “Therefore, a 1969 ‘solution’ will also be required.”

This is very dangerous talk indeed. And Umno has been doing nothing but talking dangerously since March 2008, as evident in the recent episode in Penang. Maybe the culprit has since been punished. Yesterday, Umno’s Supreme Council decided to suspend Ahmad Ismail for a period of three years. But the damage has already been done and the suspension can’t turn back the clock. Racial sentiments have already been fanned and Malaysia, again, is being pushed to the brink of a race riot.

Malays, Chinese and Indians need to know how May 13 started. They must be made aware of what May 13 was really all about. They must be made to realise that the current sabre-rattling is nothing but the same ploy that Umno used back in 1968 and 1988 whenever it felt that it was losing Malay support. May 13 was not about race although it is being touted as so. May 13 was about ‘reuniting’ the Malays and about ousting the Prime Minister from office.

To forget history would be to repeat its mistakes. Let us not be taken in by Umno’s shadow-play (wayang kulit). They know they are rapidly losing power and they want to retain power through foul means by raising the spectre of May 13. Malaysians need to be matured and clever enough to reject this ploy. Umno can try, but whether it can succeed will all depend on whether we get suckered into this very dangerous race game.

Let me take you down memory lane and recap what I wrote nine years ago so that we may learn from this dark history and not repeat what went wrong. As follows is what I wrote in Harakah on 24 September 1999.

*************************************************

A REPORTER’S ACCOUNT OF AN INTERVIEW WITH TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN ON THE 13 MAY INCIDENT

The following statement is a factual account of the above-mentioned event given to me by the late Tunku Abdul Rahman (first Prime Minister of Malaysia) during an interview at his residence in Penang in 1972. I requested to discuss the above incident and was surprised when the appointment was given within three days.

His Secretary, a Chinese gentleman, allotted me one hour and advised me not to go into too much detail as this would tire the Tunku unnecessarily. In fact, the interview lasted three and a half hours. Because of the very surprising details provided to me, I think it would be best to report in a first-hand manner based on my notes written immediately after the interview.

“It was clear to me as well as the police that in the highly charged political atmosphere after the police were forced to kill a Chinese political party worker on May 4th, 1969, something was bound to happen to threaten law and order because of the resentment towards the Government by the KL Chinese on the eve of the general election. This was confirmed at this man’s funeral on the 9th May when the government faced the most hostile crowd it had ever seen.

Therefore, when the opposition parties applied for a police permit for a procession to celebrate their success in the results of the general election, I was adamant against it because the police were convinced that this would lead to trouble. I informed Tun Razak about this and he seemed to agree.

Now, without my knowledge and actually “behind my back”, there were certain political leaders in high positions who were working to force me to step down as a PM. I don’t want to go into details but if they had come to me and said so I would gladly have retired gracefully.

Unfortunately, they were apparently scheming and trying to decide on the best way to force me to resign. The occasion came when the question of the police permit was to be approved.

Tun Razak and Harun Idris, the MB of the state of Selangor, now felt that permission should be given, knowing fully well that there was a likelihood of trouble. I suppose they felt that when this happened they could then demand my resignation.

To this day I find it very hard to believe that Razak, whom I had known for so many years, would agree to work against me in this way. Actually he was in my house, as I was preparing to return to Kedah, and I overhead him speaking to Harun over the phone saying that he would be willing to approve the permit when I left. I really could not believe what I was hearing and preferred to think it was about some other permit.  In any case, as the Deputy Prime Minister, in my absence from KL, he would be the Acting PM and would override my objection.

Accordingly, when I was in my home in Kedah, I heard over the radio that the permit had been approved.

It seems as though the expected trouble was anticipated and planned for by Harun and his UMNO Youth. After the humiliating insults hurled by the non-Malays, especially the Chinese, and after the seeming loss of Malay political power to them, they were clearly ready for some retaliatory action.

After meeting in large numbers at Harun’s official residence in Jalan Raja Muda near Kampong Bahru, and hearing inflammatory speeches by Harun and other leaders, they prepared themselves by tying ribbon strips on their foreheads and set out to kill Chinese. The first hapless victims were two of them in a van opposite Harun’s house who were innocently watching the large gathering. Little did they know that they would be killed on the spot.

The rest is history. I am sorry but I must end this discussion now because it really pains me as the Father of Merdeka to have to relive those terrible moments. I have often wondered why God made me live long enough to have witnessed my beloved Malays and Chinese citizens killing each other.”

This was a conspiracy at the highest level and nothing short of a power struggle, with the ‘Young Turks’ then forming the pressure group. To achieve their ends, they very cleverly used race to make the Malays rise and push the Tengku aside.

Today, they are doing it again. This is dangerous politics. It may backfire and, instead, it may make the Malays rise against the non-Malays, like what happened in 1969 -- a fire raging out of control with no fire extinguisher in sight.

We must never allow our country to be turned into a racial battlefield again. Let politics be issues concerning policies, civil rights, good governance and justice. Let us not allow anyone to bring race and religion into our politics lest we suffer the fate of many countries around us where mass murders of entire families are made in the name of ‘bangsa’ and ‘agama’.

Precisely, why I said in my comments on the article "Cops: Stop Commenting On Sensitive Issues", that it is time to cool it and tone down with respect to racial and religious comments.

Enough of names calling and mocking of other people's beliefs. It is time for us to write sensitively and sensibly. The transition to a Malaysian Malaysia must not be allowed to be aborted through bull-headed antagonism and bull-baiting.

Mahatma Ghandi's strategy of silent and non-violent protest is birthed from the Christian principle of "turning the other cheek". In the world of politics, it is needs real skills to be a statesman and not just to be a political rebel-rouser . . . when to apply pressure and when to back off.

I trust that Anwar, Lim Kit Siang, Nik Aziz on the Pakatan Rakyat side may be such statesmen and that they will find statesmen on the other side of the political divide. Can the BN bring forth political statesmen who will debate with their counterparts on the Opposition side and bring peace and harmony back to the Nation?

No more bogeyman to frighten others into silence, no more warmongering but intellectual discussion of the sort that sees the cut, thrust and parry in words and not in drawn swords.

That will be the day!

I strongly suggest that this kind of Malaysian “hidden” history be publish, from time to time, on the world wide web to educate & to enlighten Malaysians.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet has ordered the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) to reinstate access to all blocked websites including Malaysia Today, says Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor.

On Aug 28 SKMM confirmed that it had instructed ISPs to block Malaysia Today in accordance with Section 263 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

Since then various parties have slammed the move saying the action went against national commitments spelt out under MSC Malaysia’s Bill of Guarantees.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar had said the site was blocked because it showed no respect for religion.

Have we awaken to all that has been revealed here by RPK? The "lessons" learnt here in MT are far more enlightening than our history books. Now that we know the truth, all the more we should not fall into the traps of racial onflicts. It really pains me too that they are using the same tactics to create havoc.
Let us be a beacon of change instead of inciting insults or what-nots.

Seriously, I cant believe anyone in today's day and age can still vouch for the 'Fighting for Our Race' bullshit. If you asked me today whether I can trust a Chinese, Indian or Malay by just looking at the colour of his skin, the answer is a steady NO. Not unless I know him or her after some time through some form of communication.

So if someone comes to me today and asked me to defend my race, i'd say to him or her, "Why? I've been cheated by people of my own race before, why should I defend them?"

But if someone asks me to defend a policy I believed in, or my country as a whole, that I would gladly do.

I cant say the same for those who plan and conduct the BTN courses though. They are a bunch of manipulative idiots.

While the nation is looking at September 16, 2008 for the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Pakatan Rakyat to take over the Federal Government, these Umno Warlords are in effect staging a coup d'etat right under our noses. Don't be surprised if this Umno Warlords unleash their Mat Rempits to create chaos and blame it on the Opposition and NGO's so that an Emergency can be declared. When the dust had settled, Badawi would be blamed and would be forced to resign. That's what Khir Toyo was thinking when he made that statement.

This is exactly what happened when Almarhum Tunku Abdul Rahman (picture above), Malaysia's first Prime Minister was forced to step down after the May 13 race riots by the Umno Warlords led by Haron Idris (picture, first from below) and inspired by none other than Mahathir Mohamed (picture, second from below). Dear Brothers and Sisters.... actually there's NO PROBLEM among us MALAY,CHINESE,INDIANS and OTHERS but the actual problem is the DIRTY MINDED POLITICIAN, they're the trouble maker.

For them to prevent from losing political power and to live like a king by "stealing" rakyat's money, they don't mind to go to any extend by using all the dirty tricks and instigate us THE CITIZEN OF MALAYSIA to create chaos. They know very well how to create the tension among us. This is the reason why they always use RELIGION and RACE as their nuclear weapons. They know exactly how devastate these 2 weapons can be.

So I would like to take this opportunity to share my opinion to all the brothers and sisters regardless of their religious and race status that we all are M.A.L.A.Y.S.I.A.N so NEVER EVER FALL INTO THEIR (Dirty Minded Politician) TRAP. They only care for themselves, their family members and their cronies... So please be careful. It's our responsibility to create a better nation and future for all of us and for all our generation. Please think smart, think wise and always be patient before decide and do anything, don't blindly listen to these type of politician....Good Luck MALAYSIAN smilies/smiley.gif

Dearest Bro' YM RPK,

Is controversy, your second name, Sir? Here you are merely recapping what actually happenned in 1969. I was in Standard Five then. Young enough to be shocked at the reality and some truths that was surfacing even then and I was no Budak hingus either.

Today, indeed some Mad Cows are on the loose, bro' trying to recreate 1969 and some blurred ones might even find some fodder to chew on from the contents of this article of yours. Not that you are bothered let alone scared. They are also trying to recruit back that ***** Architect whose dirty mind and hands are also fully involved even way back then.

Many lives were lost and some maimed for life. I also heard of a women ripe at advanced stage of pregnancy being killed with the sharp end of a bamboo plunged into her abdomen. I can go further but it is just too painful and horrific to even recollect.

So, Folks, we have to PREVENT the recurrence of that Darkest Month of Our Nation & History, even if we need to resort to doing some Culling, proper and good.

Unless, of course, YB DSAI and Team PR assume power and help us get that job done for us and henceforth, free us for ever having to hear about May 13, 1969, ever again.

If you look carefully at statements made since March 8, there is only one person who has consistently been playing the racial card.

None other than the Mahafiraun himself.

Either through his blog or through his ceramah circuit, rubbing in the notion of loss of Malay political power.

To prevent another May 13 is very simple. Lock Mahafiraun and a few of his supporters up under the ISA or Emergency Ordinance, and the probability of a racial flare up will be significantly reduced.

If DSAI takes over the government, i can assure you that UMNO will definitely create havoc in this country. Those hooligans in UMNO will NEVER take it as a man. A good example would be Ahmad himself. A living proof of how immature and how childish UMNO politicians can be. Even after being handed suspension, he still whines and talks as if he owns Malaysia.

UMNO will encourage their supporters behind the curtains to stage demonstrations and destruction of public peace. And the best part is, the supporters do not even realize that UMNO is using them as a scapegoat to fulfill those politicians wishes.

The situation may not be as bad as May 13th 69 but i am pretty sure, UMNO will do whatever they can (even IF resorting to violence)to get their seat back.

To All Malaysians,

Please read this article below(a story of two men who gave their lives for Malaysia) and ask yourself whether their sacrificies have been in vain, wouldn't it be good for all Malaysian regardless of race and religion to follow the example below:

Captain Shanmuganathan PGB and 207770 Ranger Mat Isa bin Hassan PGB
Friday, September 30, 2005

I heard him call out for his batman,"Mahbot ! Mahbot ! I need water...". Cpl Ishak told him that his batman was taking care of the packs at the assembly area. After a little while he started calling out for his Platoon Sergeant, "Sergeant Ismail.....! Sergeant Ismail...! " After not receiving any replies to his calls. He gave out his last orders with his dying breath, " Please take care of my boys (his soldiers), I have not the strength in me any more....." Out of his sense of loyalty, Rgr Mat Isa seeing and hearing this call, without due regard to his safety and well being, dashed towards Captain Shanmuganathan to save him. As he approached his commander, the enemy's bullets slammed into his body causing him to fall across the body of his commander, as if to protect him

The battle lasted until 1900 hours at night, after that time the enemy's main body withdrew. Even after the withdrawal we opened fire whenever there was a movement toward our position or whenever the enemy tried to recover some of their weapons. Rgr Mohamad and I were about 7 feet behind the the bodies of Captain Shan and Rgr Mat Isa until the following morning. 2Lt Basri arrived at the ending of the battle, with his Platoon's help we managed to pull out Rgr Mutalib from the front to a safe area.Continued here

This is an analysis of documents declassified at the Public Records Office, London, after the lapse of the 30-year secrecy rule. The documents provide the only available confidential observations and memoranda by British and other foreign embassy operatives based on their intelligence and contacts with local officials and politicians. These documents clearly show who were responsible for the violence and pose the question why the security forces allowed the violence to go on.

The May 13 riots were by no means a spontaneous outburst of violence between Malays and Chinese but rather a planned coup d’etat by the ascendant state capitalist class against the Tunku-led aristocracy. The author discusses the contradictions of the post-Independencec Alliance racial formula and traces the rise of this new Malay capitalist class which has ruled Malaysia since 1969.

About the author: Kua Kia Soong is a director and founding member of human rights organisation, Suaram. He was a Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya (1990-95), a former political detainee during Operasi Lalang (1987-89) and former lecturer at the National University of Singapore (1978-79).

Read “May 13 - Declassified Documents on the Malaysian riots of 1969” by Dr. Kua Kia Soong, the principal of New Era College, for full accounts of what really happened during the darkest time of Malaysian history. It can be purchased at all MPH bookstores, available in English, BM and Mandarin.

Although I'm born after 1969, my heart still churns everytime I hold this book in my hand. I still can't comprehend how immense the greed of a few men could have been that the fate of a whole nation was altered overnight to suit their cravings.

I say those who discount history mean to repeat its mistakes!! Let's not allow that crook with Razak in his name be made our PM or history will repeat itself!

"This was a conspiracy at the highest level and nothing short of a power struggle, with the ‘Young Turks’ then forming the pressure group. To achieve their ends, they very cleverly used race to make the Malays rise and push the Tengku aside."

Abdul Razak and Harun Idris were nothing more than pawns of the "Young Turks". Guess who was the mad cow leader of the "Young Turks"? This Ahmad Ismail episode is an exact replica with an "unseen" hand, the OLD MAD COW leading some UMNO mad cows. This OLD mad cow has blood on his hands; he deserve the hell he is feeling now.

Eternal judgement and condemnation of God/Allah is awaiting Mahathir, feeling the heat of judgement yet?

And that is why NAJIS ROSAK of the ROSAK lineage must never, ever, NEVER be PM of Malaysia ! His ancestry of racial violence, and his participation in racial violence of kissing the keris and threatening to bathe it in Chinese blood makes it IMPOSSIBLE for him to be PM, EVER !

I was 10 years old and in KL when 513 happened, and my whole family was supposed to see a show, but luckily my mom realized they had made an appointment with the doctor for my innoculation, so they scrapped the plans for the cinema that day. That is how we survived 513, by keeping indoors.

I remember the sirens and the gathering of the people on the streets handing out weapons from anything you can think of, and I had a pole to defend myself. The men were discussing on how to secure the neighbourhood and preventing anyone from coming in, while the rest of us were taught to sell our lives for as much as we could, i.e. if the enemy broke through then take as many of them with you as possible.

Blood & guts all the way. Curfews were day long, and anyone caught on the streets would be shot, and peeping out also would be shot at. I remember the Gurkhas had to be called in as the Army was partisan to the Malay "cause".

We knew it was Harun Idris, the father of Mazlan Harun who filed the ACA report on NAJIS & Bodohwi recently, who was the rabble-rouser along with Razak. Razak played a low profile role while Harun was the acknowledged leader.

Order returned shortly, and I remeber some of the Sultans calling up the military and lining them up, then asking the Chinese to point and pick out if any of the officers were involved in the race riots, and to do with them as we saw fit. How to recognize any of them ?? It was so confusing then, but we apprecaited the Sultans' gesture.

BTW, CWY, what those characters mean should be "A distinguished gentleman uses words and not fists" in the proper context.

We MUT NEVER ALLOW ANOTHER 513 to happen, so keep your race rhetoric to a minimum and don't let sycophants like ahMAD and Maha-Shithead bait us !!

Oh yes, the Young Turks who wanted to force our bestest Prime Minister from power ?? He was none other than Maha-Shithead, who had been thrown in jail under ISA by the Tengku before for inciting racila hatred and writing his STUPID book, The Malay Dilemma.

In a Nutshell,The Malay Dilemma today has a DIRECT CORRELATION to Maha-Shithead's premiership and policies !!

I dislike the arrogance of Ahmad but I also know that he is using us - the citizen to hate each other, which we should NEVER EVER allow it to happen.

I really do hope all Malaysian, regardless of race will be matured enough to know what is going on and NEVER let the politicians be it Malay, Chinese, Indian, etc to instill hatred amongst us. The real culprits are not the races but the politicians. Don't allow ourselves to be scarified for this STUPID political game.

Personally, I felt the punishment on Ahmad is too mild compared to those Hindraf, etc. groups who has done not as much harm as Ahmad. UMNO is practicing double standard. I can bet with you if this was started by opposition party, ISA act will be taken to punish them. Are we all to blind to see this?

Pete , i admire your strong judgments of convictions for the betterment and good the Country deserves. God Bless you and your Generations Always Pete !!Allah is Supreme !! God Knows what exactly to do to the wrong doers!

Its time for all the TRUE Malays to voice what is terribly wrong . They must note that their Religion is being hijacked and misused to the hilt . How could we allow this . Greats like Pas Legislator, Dr SITI Mariah Mohamed must be admired because, for her, Justice is so true to be protected .

I have not read much about YB Nik Aziz those days , as TDM's MSM always churned out filth about YB. Today, thanks to GOD"s ways of judgements --- i have so much admiration for this Great Soul . God Bless you YB Nik Aziz .

How could a demented Party chieftain be allowed to go around the Country to give the wrong picture??? The Ulterior motives seem doomed , this is not the 1960's , they are still living in the caves .

When has an Army Chief been given a space to say the the things he does . Does he realize he is under the AGONG, or is he thinking he is under Najib.

With all this hullabaloo , they think we are oblivious of the Altantuya , Batu Puteh ,and the Corridors of Scams. Khir Toyol should be sent to Afghanistan , for a game of Buzkashi with him tied up at the end of the rope with the Taliban .

Imbeciles in the midst think we are so stupid to play second fiddle with all their ulterior motives !!!!!! I call upon all my Malay, Chinese and Indian Brothers to prove them wrong with our Unity .

GOD Bless souls like , Pete,Din Merican, Imtiaz,Bakri Musa,Karim Raslan, Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud , Rocky , Farish Noor ,Haris, Azly , Tuanku Aziz and many many more . We depend on your wisdom always my friends . Thank You for being there for Malaysia. God Bless DSAI!

Although I am pissed off with Ahmad racial slurs, I try to be cool because getting hot will be no good at this critical moment and this is what MCA, Gerakan and UMNO is play acting right now, to stir up emotions again. Look at MCA who burn Ahmad's photos. This is a drama only. Look at the Ahmad supporter who tear Koh Tsu Koon photo. This is a ploy too. Let's us not bother by what all those UMNO goons are talking. We know they are useless so what is the point to listen to them anyway right? We are much higher and more intelligent homo sapiens that UMNO sapiens. Yup. Let's move on and ignore the provocations. They are obviously looking for a fight. We shall wisely exercise restraint and deny them what they are itching for:an excuse to take back all that's so hard won till now.

For the Christians, remember:from Romans12:19-21,'Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” 20 To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Let's pray for these people, that God's grace through Christ may come upon them.Perhaps this is God's way of awakening us to do so.Matt:44-"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"

This story was already well known in Kampung Kerinchi. I was a witness to this incident..when I stayed there...

It is sad that Malays who profess to be Muslims and who must lead the way by example resort to murder and violence to solve problems like primitive people.

But let me correct myself..it is not the gentlemen Malays. It is the UMNO lebih diraja maharajah lela group who have exploited the Malays to get what they want.
Then came the rampant rape of the country the misuse of religion and the power..

As far as as I am concerned the chinese and indians have nothing more to loose..
they have lost almost everything..and if this continues I think it is better for
for all to leave the country or die a horrible death at the hands of these murderers...We all live once. Dying is just another door to another place..Those who can leave..better leave..and those who remain..risk death..Those who believe in God then will have an opportunity to ask for justice at least..

It might actually backfire..consider this in 1969 who were living in the cities mostly --non-malays..but today who is also living in the city in large houses and driving fancy cars? So are these people willing to lose everything in a racial fight? In clashes like everybody is at risk man!

Sometimes, the real reason and truth behind why certain things happened, laid hidden or obscured by the grandiloquence and rhetoric of appearance. What appeared to be the issue or problem was only a reflection of a far deeper trouble brooding that if not corrected or will destroy the very fiber of civilized society and behavior. .

What Datuk Ahmad Ismail said, i.e. calling the Chinese community “immigrants who do not deserve equal rights” is no worse than some of the disrespectful comments that had appeared in MT condemning/insulting the Malays and Muslims.

Let me refresh and jolt the conscience of the younger generation especially of what transpired from an outspoken Malay man on the aftermath of May 13th 1969.These were his words that I read from the Newsweek magazine then.

Quote, “ I rather be sitting on the floor, eating with my fingers and without all the modern things, then have all Chinese brought in to develop my country.” Unquote.

Many Malays were disappointed and angry at the British and the Malay rulers for allowing and encouraging the Chinese and Indians to come and work in the Tin mines and rubber plantations before independence.
Even today easily 90% of Malays have mistrust on the Malaysians of Chinese and Indian ancestry because of the mistrust that had developed over the years . This mistrust were aggravated by the different social/religious values and habits compounded by the barrier created by the different languages and schools systems

All is not lost though, because with the new and up coming generations, Malay , Chinese, Indians or whatever, If they work together shed the racially communal habits and instead combine to develop a shared Malaysian Identity, all will benefit. It may take a little while longer, but look, the Babas and Nnonyas of Malacca and the ***** of Penang are a good example.

For the sake of the future generations of Malaysians regardless of skin color or ethnicity, the way to succeed is tolerance, respect, civility, unity, and justice for all, fairness in all dealings, honor and discipline, treating others the way you like to be treated. Then the end result will be, Malaysia is truly ASIA.

How many of us from the different racial/religious background are willing to sit down and discuss openly, intelligently, and in a civilize manner our differences and come to an amicable understanding?

How many really understand the actual facts and reality that exits in this country, be it culture, language, education, or religion?

Rather than thinking deep and develop a conscientious plans by involving all Malaysians from every walks of life, we let loose our spiteful and malicious comments and remarks without considering the feeling or sentiments, opinion or beliefs of our fellow humans.Condemn the man’s actions not his Person. Instead we live within our own comfort zones and only interact because of necessity or to condemn.

Last but not least, unless and until All Malaysians recognize, understand and develop a master plan for all entry levels, based on universal values and not narrow and ethnic based socio/religious beliefs, we will never be A first World nation and people.

Looks like the pieces of creating another May 13 are in place.

Who could we turn to in times of duress? The police?! If they could assemble a large group of people, they could be easily spotted. Then who could we Malaysians turn to?

Is the army truly neutral and obedient to the Supreme Commander? Even if the army listen to the right chief, would they be able to mobilise fast enough to neutralise or minimise the "tragedy"?

They could not organise a big event without getting a lot of people involved. Is there no true Malaysians in the "pawns"?

We need someone who will be a saviour to Malaysia. Could we count on our beloved Agong or wise Sultans?

Either we wait for disaster to happen or the disease must be nipped in the bud very early.

So far, no actions are seen to stop Ah Mad. He will stir the mad cows followers if his road shows are allowed.

WHO IS ABLE TO STOP HIM ONCE & FOR ALL???

This will definitely deter the brains behind all this. Better still, let lightning strike these heartless people.

They are very much thirsty for powers, for monies, for women for all materialistic substance that they can reap to satisfy their self-seeking, egos, lusts for powers, covetous materialism all those the evil minds can conceive!

For one thing they don't understand and they don't learn, they are reluctant to keep up with the advanced technology and the most sophisticated global intelligence! They are still thinking that this is 40 years ago and that they can still gag the mouths with draconian laws, blind the eyes with their old fashioned histrionics 40 years ago! They thought they can continue to blind fold the eyes of the old and blur Sovereignty thinking that they are eyes of the puppet and that they can continue doing so on the 40 years later brilliant eyes engineered by the highly intellectual cerebral faculties suchlike the Highness Agong and the Venerable Raja Nasrin! They have proclaimed on behalf of all the Rulers, they are no mere rubber stamps in this modern Monarchy and no more the feudal Monarchy that will allow them to engage in the most brutal and fiendish ethnic cleansing or genocide whatsoever they label, in a state of anarchy!

The tragedy of 1969513 won't work today 2008916 where it's going to be a totally different scenario, a totally different climate, a totally different warfare if a necessary warfare is anticipated! A warfare that is anticipated not amongst the siblings, not amongst the brethren, not amongst the Chinese the Malays nor the Indians, it's going to be a warfare amongst the peoples or the rakayat and the seriously corruptible and despotic Government! Likened those of Taiwan's and Thailand's! Even the worms will turn, the rabbits will bite, if all are pushed to the limit!

Are they not looking East to Taiwan to learn? Are they not aware of what is going on in Taiwan? Should they be sincere enough to learn, they should learn from the good lesson of Taiwans' evolutionary prototype, Taiwans's democracy and Taiwanese Government's anti-corruption commitments and practices etc.!

Last but not least, they should strenuously put into efforts to analyze and research and after research to find out what is the mythical evolutionary dynamics behind the whole reforms, the invincible synergy of People's Powers!...................................

Are you looking at the 'green shirt' just like the previous article?
http://mt.m2day.org/2008/index...1&id=12473

RPK was not wrong when he mention 9years ago coz he didn't say 'exactly 9 years ago' or 'on this day 9 years ago' did he?

Lastly, no one like a smartass especially when others are talking about serious stuff.

Sorry bud, I don't get what you're trying to say. And I refuse to take offence at your statement. Fact of the matter is, I pointed out a mistake in the date of the ORIGINAL posting. Since then, it has been corrected. And I think the Super Admin should have removed my posts after that. If you don't really know the background of that posts, then would be wise not to write in a demeaning manner.

No kudos for pointing out the mistake but kena whacked too.

By the way, since this IS a serious subject matter, I do not want to simply posts asses (which we all have one, in other words, OPINIONS) just like that. I am learning a lot from Pete's posting, and because of the seriousness and sensitivity, does not mean I was making fun of it, ok? I lived through May 13, 1969!

Super Admin, please remove my two earlier posts. They are irrelevant now that you have corrected the dates. Thanks!

People who create & participate in fanning racial problems would end up in hell. These people are not human beings & have no fear in God. They will meet the punishment they rightly deserved. After 51 yrs, there should be no racial problems in the country but sadly the govt have not been doing the job. We have poor leadership who thinks for themselves first, especially how to get rich. We need new party to form a new govt.

In 1969, Tun Razak approved the police permit for the opposition demonstration knowing full well it will lead to race tensions. In 1969, there was no internet yet.

In 2008, the cabinet, knowing full well how rude the internet can get, removed the block on MT. Commentators on MT - I hope RPK's history lesson has sunk in, and you know the possible implications of your rude comments. Pls do not be manipulated again. Be constructive, not destructive, especially towards your own vital interests.

Having said that, I realise nasty people will do what they want to do regardless. But we need not give them the excuse. Instead we should be struggling with might and main to make sure they do not succeed in doing bad things.

So .... don't be dumb asses. this is not the time to let your emotions run riot, especially your comments on royals.
